Abstract

This research aimed to described the strategies used by sixth semester students of the English Education Study Program at HKBP Nommensen University, Pematangsiantar, in preparing themselves for the TOEFL test, to see the effectiveness of the strategies used, the obstacles faced in the preparation process, and the correlation described from the strategies used with the scores obtained by students. This research was based on the theory of learning strategies proposed by Cohen and Chamot & O'Malley, which divides learning strategies into three categories, namely metacognitive, cognitive, and social-affective. This research used descriptive qualitative method, with 30 sixth-semester PIA-2 class students at HKBP Nommensen University, Pematangsiantar as the research subjects. Data were collected using an analysis and interactive model proposed by Miles & Huberman, which included data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicated that students use various metacognitive strategies (planning, monitoring, evaluation, and time management) as the most dominant strategies, followed by cognitive strategies (practice questions, studying grammar, and reading authentic texts), as well as socio-affective strategies (group discussions, asking for tutor help, and managing anxiety). These strategies had proven effective in improving students' readiness to face the TOEFL test, although their effectiveness varies depending on the consistency and discipline of students in applying them. The main obstacles faced by the students included limited time, difficulty understanding grammar, excessive anxiety before the test, and limited access to learning resources. The conclusion of this research confirms that implementing appropriate, planned, and consistent learning strategies could help students improved their TOEFL preparation and confidence. Using a combination of these three strategies will also help students achieve good scores. However, these strategies need to be tailored to each student's individual circumstances to achieved optimal results.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to write the relationship between teacher teaching styles and student learning benefits in the English division of class X of SMA Negeri 1 Siantar Perumnas Batu VI. This study is based on Grasha's (1996) teaching style theory, especially the facilitator teaching style, as well as the concept of learning motivation according to Sanchez-Boliver & Martinez-Martinez (2022) which emphasizes intrinsic motivation as a driver of student engagement. This study uses a quantitative descriptive correlational design. The study population was all class X students, while the sample was taken purposively from class X-2 which amounted to 36 students and 1 English teacher at SMA Negeri 1 Siantar Perumnas Batu VI. The research instrument was a questionnaire with a Likert scale, then the data were analyzed using the Person Product Moment correlation test through the SPSS program. The results of the study showed that there was a significant positive relationship between teacher teaching styles and student learning motivation with a correlation coefficient value of r = 0.537 and a significance of p = 0.000 (p <0.05). This indicates that the more appropriate the facilitator teaching style applied by the teacher, the higher the student's motivation in learning English. Researchers concluded that a facilitator's teaching style plays a crucial role in increasing student learning motivation. Therefore, teachers are advised to adopt a teaching style that focuses on student guidance, interaction, and independence to create a more engaging and motivating learning environment.

Abstract

The global shift towards digital education accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed ongoing challenges in ensuring equitable access and personalized learning experiences among diverse student populations. This study aims to investigate the potential of adaptive e-learning technology in enhancing accessibility and individualization within the context of distance education, particularly for students from marginalized communities and remote geographical areas. By employing a mixed-methods approach, this research involved a survey of 312 students from various demographic backgrounds, as well as in-depth case studies at two institutions that have implemented adaptive learning systems. The findings indicate that students using adaptive platforms experienced significant improvements in learning engagement, with 74% reporting better understanding and 61% noting increased motivation compared to their peers using conventional online learning methods. The adaptive systems also demonstrated the ability to tailor content based on the pace, preferences, and prior knowledge of learners, effectively narrowing achievement gaps. Furthermore, accessibility features such as language customization, device compatibility, and offline usability proved crucial in supporting inclusivity. This study concludes that the integration of adaptive e-learning technology in distance education can play a transformative role in addressing educational disparities by aligning instruction with the unique needs of learners while expanding access to quality digital education. These findings hold significant value for policymakers, educational technologists, and institutions seeking sustainable and inclusive strategies that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4.

Abstract

Kegiatan pelatihan editing sebagai pendamping ekstrakurikuler sinematografi di SMAK Yos Sudarso dilaksanakan sebagai upaya untuk mengatasi kendala yang dihadapi siswa dalam memahami teknik dasar penyuntingan video dan penggunaan perangkat lunak editing. Metode pelatihan dirancang secara bertahap, dimulai dari observasi dan wawancara dengan guru pembina, penyusunan materi pembelajaran, penyampaian teori dan demonstrasi langsung, hingga praktik mandiri oleh siswa. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan siswa dalam mengoperasikan perangkat lunak Adobe Premiere Pro dan Capcut. Siswa mampu menyusun proyek video sederhana dengan menerapkan teknik pemotongan klip, transisi, dan color grading dasar. Pemberian akses materi melalui Google Drive juga memfasilitasi pembelajaran mandiri. Kegiatan ini tidak hanya meningkatkan keterampilan teknis siswa, tetapi juga mendorong pengembangan kreativitas dalam bidang sinematografi.

Abstract

Mastery of English-speaking skills is crucial in today’s globalized era, yet many students face challenges in achieving fluency. This research is used to find out the effect of the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) learning model on the speaking ability of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Siantar. Grounded in Brown's (2004) theory of speaking, which highlights fluency, grammar, comprehension, pronunciation, and vocabulary, and Lyman's (1985) TPS framework, the study emphasizes cooperative learning through structured interaction. A quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach was employed, involving an experimental class using the TPS model and a control class with conventional teaching. Pre-test and post-test data were collected to measure speaking performance. The findings showed a significant improvement in the experimental class, with the average pre-test score rising from 44.0 to 75.2, compared to the control class's increase from 40.8 to 68.53. The results confirm the TPS model's effectiveness in enhancing students' English-speaking skills. In conclusion, the Think-Pair-Share learning model is a proven instructional method for improving English-speaking skills in junior high school students, contributing to evidence supporting cooperative learning models in language education.

Abstract

Laporan ini menguraikan pelaksanaan kegiatan magang sebagai Web Developer di PT. Weefer Indonesia, sebuah perusahaan yang bergerak di bidang teknologi informasi dan pengembangan perangkat lunak. Tujuan dari magang ini adalah memberikan kontribusi kepada mitra dalam menciptakan antarmuka pengguna yang intuitif dan responsif pada aplikasi web internal. Selama program magang, penulis terlibat dalam pengembangan frontend, optimasi performa tampilan, serta integrasi dengan backend melalui API. Metode yang digunakan meliputi perancangan komponen UI, penggunaan framework modern, dan pengujian fungsional. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan peningkatan kepuasan pengguna internal dan efisiensi proses pengembangan.

Abstract

Kerja praktik merupakan sarana pembelajaran langsung bagi mahasiswa dalam menerapkan teori perkuliahan ke dalam dunia industri. Artikel ini membahas kerja praktik yang dilaksanakan di PT Tigernix Solutions Indonesia, di mana penulis berperan sebagai pengembang backend sekaligus penanggung jawab proyek dalam pengembangan sistem Volunteer Donation Management berbasis TigernixERP. Kegiatan meliputi analisis kebutuhan, perancangan basis data, pengembangan API, dan penerapan metode Agile dengan kerangka kerja Scrum. Sistem berbasis web ini dirancang untuk mengintegrasikan pengelolaan relawan dan donasi dalam satu platform digital yang terpusat. Sebelum implementasi, organisasi mitra masih menggunakan formulir kertas dan pencatatan manual melalui spreadsheet. Berdasarkan umpan balik pengguna setelah sistem digunakan, digitalisasi proses relawan berhasil mengurangi waktu input dan rekap data hingga sekitar 68%, serta meningkatkan konsistensi pelaporan. Kegiatan ini tidak hanya memperkuat kompetensi profesional mahasiswa dalam rekayasa perangkat lunak, tetapi juga memberikan dampak operasional nyata bagi mitra industri.

Abstract

Di tengah perkembangan teknologi informasi yang pesat, banyak perusahaan mulai beralih ke solusi digital untuk meningkatkan efisiensi operasional, khususnya dalam proses produksi dan pelaporan data. Di PT. Dynacast Indonesia, pencatatan hasil produksi harian masih dilakukan secara manual, sehingga menimbulkan keterlambatan dan ketidakakuratan dalam penyampaian informasi kepada manajemen. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, dikembangkan sebuah sistem backend sebagai bagian dari Sistem Output Harian. Sistem ini dirancang untuk mendukung pendataan produksi secara real-time melalui API yang dapat diintegrasikan dengan frontend yang dikembangkan oleh tim lain. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui studi literatur, wawancara langsung dengan mitra, serta observasi di lapangan guna memahami kebutuhan sistem dan alur kerja tim produksi. Proses pengembangan sistem dibagi menjadi empat fase: persiapan, pelaksanaan, evaluasi, dan pelaporan. Hasil implementasi menunjukkan bahwa sistem backend mampu menyimpan dan menyajikan data produksi secara akurat serta dapat diakses secara langsung oleh sistem frontend. Selain itu, sistem ini membantu meningkatkan efisiensi proses pelaporan dan mempermudah manajemen dalam mengevaluasi kinerja produksi. Dengan demikian, pengembangan backend sistem Daily Output Production memberikan kontribusi positif dalam meningkatkan transparansi, produktivitas, dan profesionalisme pada proses produksi di PT. Dynacast Indonesia.

Abstract

Digital transformation is a key requirement for companies that want to compete in the modern era, including for PT. Panca Utama, a hospitality equipment provider company that has been operating for more than two decades. In order to increase digital visibility and expand marketing reach, a community service activity was carried out in the form of designing and implementing a company website that includes a company profile and CRUD features for managing product information. The project was implemented using the Scrum methodology and involved the development of a user interface (front-end) using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as a Django-based backend. The final result is an official website that is informative, interactive, and easily accessible has been successfully implemented, enabling the company to appear more professional and efficient in serving customers and supporting future business growth.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk membantu SMA Ananda Batam dalam meningkatkan kualitas dan efektivitas website sekolah. Permasalahan utama yang dihadapi oleh mitra adalah performa website yang lambat, tidak optimal dalam penyimpanan cache, penggunaan media yang belum terkompresi, serta beberapa plugin yang tidak efisien. Selain itu, website juga belum memiliki panduan pengunaan yang memadai. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan ini meliputi observasi, wawancara, analisis kebutuhan, serta implementasi re-design dan optimasi website menggunakan pendekatan difusi Ipteks. Beberapa langkah konkret yang dilakukan mencakup aktivasi caching, kompresi media, penghapusan plugin yang tidak diperlukan, perpanjangan masa aktif hosting, serta pembuatan manual penggunaan untuk admin sekolah. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kecepatan akses dan kemudahan pengelolaan website oleh pihak sekolah. Rekomendasi ke depan adalah perlunya pelatihan lanjutan bagi pengelola serta pemantauan berkala terhadap performa website.
