Abstract

People cannot attain a communicative goal unless their words address specific cultural or contextual challenges. Thus, language is viewed as a social tool to assist humans in conveying meaning; but, this meaning cannot be obtained if words are conveyed in isolation. As a result, we require contexts or settings in which more phrases and words can be placed in order for listeners or readers to comprehend the meaning behind utterances and words. By applying Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics Theory, this study aims to observe one of three types of meanings, it was ideational meanings. It focuses on language which is used by people in both types of local and regional newspapers to convey information or messages about the experiences of the speakers. Each speaker used different clauses which contained dependent and independent clauses that we call clause complex. To analyze the aspect of projection; Hypotactic Locution, Paratactic Locution, Hypotactic Idea, Paratactic Idea, and Quasi-Projection which were used or appeared in Indonesian newspapers’ story texts. The significance of the study is to improve students’ linguistic knowledge and their writing skill by mastering text structures.

Abstract

Speed-reading ability among students with special needs remains low, with most reading below the expected standard. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Kahoot in improving students' speed-reading ability. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was employed. The population consisted of students from five special schools (SLB) in Nias Regency. A total of 97 students were selected using purposive sampling and divided into an experimental group (n = 49) and a control group (n = 48). Data were collected through reading speed tests, observation sheets, and student engagement questionnaires. The instruments were validated prior to use. Data were analyzed using PLS-SEM with SmartPLS 4.0. The results indicate that the PBL-Kahoot model significantly improves students' speed-reading ability. Student engagement plays a mediating role, and the model explains a substantial proportion of variance in reading performance. The intervention shows varying effectiveness across different types of special needs, with higher gains observed in certain groups. In conclusion, the integration of PBL and Kahoot effectively enhances speed reading ability through increased student engagement. It is recommended that teachers adopt technology-assisted, student-centered learning models and adapt them to students' specific needs.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of experiential learning in improving students’ critical writing skills in secondary education settings. Using a quasi-experimental design, 60 students were assigned to either an experimental group or a control group. The experimental group was taught through Kolb’s experiential learning approach, whereas the control group received conventional instruction. Data were gathered through pre-tests and post-tests evaluated using a critical writing rubric that emphasized argumentation, use of evidence, and coherence. The results demonstrated a substantial improvement in the experimental group’s critical writing performance. The mean score increased from 62.4 on the pre-test to 81.7 on the post-test, indicating a gain of 19.3 points. Meanwhile, the control group showed a more modest improvement, with scores rising from 63.1 to 70.2, resulting in a gain of 7.1 points. An independent samples t-test confirmed a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.01). These findings indicate that experiential learning can effectively enhance students’ critical writing abilities by encouraging active participation and reflective learning experiences.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of work culture, work motivation, and career progression on employee productivity within Islamic institutions. Grounded in the theoretical integration of Organizational Culture Theory, Self-Determination Theory, and Human Capital Theory, the research acknowledges the role of Islamic Work Ethic values-such as amanah, ikhlas, and itqan-as shaping mechanisms in professional behavior. A quantitative explanatory design was employed, involving a survey distributed to employees across selected Islamic institutions in Indonesia. Simple random sampling was used to determine respondents, and data were analyzed through multiple linear regression with validity and reliability tests performed to ensure measurement accuracy. The findings demonstrate that all three independent variables significantly and positively affect employee productivity. Work culture emerged as a key determinant, emphasizing the role of shared values, teamwork, and disciplinary practices grounded in Islamic ethos. Work motivation also showed a strong effect, indicating that employees are driven not only by extrinsic incentives but also by intrinsic and spiritual motives rooted in religious consciousness. Career progression further contributed significantly to productivity, suggesting that structured development pathways and perceived fairness in advancement enhance performance in Islamic institutional settings. Overall, the results reinforce the view that value-based organizational systems integrating ethical and spiritual dimensions can enhance workforce excellence. This research contributes theoretically by contextualizing Western organizational behavior models within an Islamic moral framework and practically by offering insights for strengthening human resource strategies in Islamic institutions.
