Abstract

The determinants of student achievement in schools are widely studied, including factors at school. Research on principal leadership, teacher performance, and student success has been carried out by many other researchers with varied results. This study aims to explain these two factors on student achievement based on teacher and student assessments. The research method used is quantitative through survey techniques. Statistical analysis used is non-parametric statistic Mean-Withney test. This research compared perceptions of teachers and students, male and female, from two school institutions. The comparison results show that both teachers and students agree that the principal has an effect on student achievement (U = 364,000; p = 0.229). In addition, teachers and students agreed that teacher support affected student achievement (U = 369,000; p = 0.266). These results indicate that both students and teachers see a relationship between the leadership role of school principals and teacher performance with student success. These findings can contribute to the development of psychology and education.

Abstract

This study explored the predictive factors of academic procrastination through a comparative cross-sectional analysis between Indonesian and Egyptian students. Academic procrastination is a widespread issue with negative implications on students' academic performance and psychological well-being. This research examined the role of personality traits such as maladaptive perfectionism, self-efficacy, self-regulation, and time orientation in predicting procrastination behaviour. The study involved 50 undergraduate students (25 from each country), selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected via validated instruments including the Pure Procrastination Scale, Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, and Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory. The results revealed that Indonesian students had a higher average academic procrastination score (M = 45.60, SD = 7.12) compared to Egyptian students (M = 43.20, SD = 6.89), though the difference was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Both groups demonstrated similar levels of self-efficacy (M = 34.50 for Indonesia, M = 34.20 for Egypt). Maladaptive perfectionism was more prevalent in Indonesian students (M = 42.20, SD = 5.85) compared to their Egyptian counterparts (M = 39.80, SD = 6.12). Egyptian students, however, showed better self-regulation (M = 73.90, SD = 7.50) compared to Indonesian students (M = 70.50, SD = 8.30). Furthermore, Egyptian students were more future-oriented (M = 58.40, SD = 6.85), while Indonesian students were more present-oriented (M = 55.40, SD = 6.95). The findings highlighted the influence of cultural factors on procrastination, with future-oriented time perspectives in Egyptian students linked to better self-management. These results suggested that culturally sensitive interventions focusing on enhancing self-regulation and addressing maladaptive perfectionism could mitigate academic procrastination

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between nomophobia and boredom intolerance among Generation Z Muslim students who are active social media users. The increasing prevalence of smartphone dependency has been linked to anxiety disorders such as nomophobia while also exacerbating the inability to tolerate boredom, particularly in digital contexts. This study used a quantitative method with a survey approach, utilizing the Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q) and the Boredom Proneness Scale (BPS) to measure these variables among 47 randomly selected participants. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression, revealing a significant positive correlation between nomophobia and boredom intolerance: as nomophobia levels increased, tolerance for boredom decreased. This research highlights the growing concern about smartphone overreliance and its psychological effects on Generation Z. Given the crucial role of social media in the daily lives of these students, understanding the psychological dynamics at play offers insights into developing targeted interventions to reduce smartphone dependence and improve emotional regulation. The findings contribute to the broader discourse on mental health in the digital age, emphasizing the importance of fostering greater awareness of the psychological risks associated with excessive smartphone use and suggesting strategies for enhancing students' emotional resilience. Future research should investigate the cultural and social factors influencing these behaviors further to develop more effective interventions.
