Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara dalam bahasa Bali melalui pemberdayaan teknik bercerita inovatIf yang diimplementasikan melalui pembelajaran integratif. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilaksanakan di kelas III SD No. 2 Sukasada dengan subjek 24 orang siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi teknik pembelajaran bercerita inovatif yang mengintegrasikan semua keterampilan berbahasa, yaitu mendengarkan, menulis, bercerita, dan membaca serta aspek bahasa seperti kosakata, gramatika, lafal dalam proses pembelajaran dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa. Kata-kata Kunci: bercerita inovatif, pembelajaran integrative, keterampilan berbicara

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menginvestigasi pengaruh gender dan tipe kepribadian terhadap kompetensi berbicara mahasiswa Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris yang mengambil mata kuliah Speaking III. Penelitian dilakukan pada mahasiswa semester 3 pada tahun akademik 2011/2012. Metode Penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian ex post facto de-ngan desain faktorial 2 x 2 dan analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan ANAVA dua jalur. Hasil Penelitian membuktikan bahwa (1) terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada kompetensi berbicara antara mahasiswa perempuan dengan mahasiswa laki-laki, mahasiswa perempuan memi-liki kompetensi berbicara yang lebih tinggi daripada mahasiswa laki-laki,  (2) terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada kompetensi berbicara antara mahasiswa yang berkepribadian ekstroversi dengan introversi, mahasiswa yang berkepribadian ekstroversi memiliki kompetensi berbicara yang lebih tinggi daripada mahasiswa yang berkepribadian introversi, dan (3) tidak terdapat pengaruh interaksi antara gender dan tipe kepribadian terhadap kompetensi berbicara mahasiswa. Abstract

Abstract: The Profile of Lecturers’ Professionalism of English Education Department. The aim of this research was to describe the lecturers’ professionalism at English Education Department in academic year 2011/2012. This was a descriptive research with a survey method, which was carried out by distributing questionnaires. They were 200 students of English Education Department sprea-ding from semester 1 to semester 7 from ten classes as the samples of the study. They were deter-mined purposively by taking into consideration as to whether the class was taught by the lecturer whom they were assessed.The finding proves that (1) the lecturers’ professionalism of English Edu-cation Department was assessed good by the students (mean: 3.72), (2) from the four competencies, personality competency reached the highest score (mean: 3.93), followed by social competency (mean: 3.88), professional competency (mean: 3.76), and  finally pedagogicalcompetency (mean: 3.31), and (3) compared to other competencies, pedagogical competency was assessed the lowest among others and was classified moderate. Tujuan utama pene-litian ini adalah untuk mengkaji profesionalisme staf dosen Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris tahun akademik 2011/2012. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan metode survei, yaitu melalui penyebaran angket kepada responden, yakni 200 mahasiswa dari semester 1 sampai dengan semester 7 dari sepuluh kelas, yang ditentukan secara purposif berdasarkan kelas-kelas yang diajar oleh para dosen yang bersangkutan. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa (1) secara umum kom-petensi dosen Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris adalah baik (rerata: 3,72), (2) dari keempat kom-petensi yang dinilai, kompetensi kepribadian mendapatkan capaian tertinggi (rerata 3,93) yang di-ikuti oleh kompetensi sosial (rerata 3,88), kompetensi profesional (rerata 3,76), dan terakhir kompe-tensi pedagogik (rerata 3,31), dan (3) dibandingkan dengan kompetensi lainnya, kompetesi pedago-gik dinilai paling rendah oleh mahasiswa, dengan kategori cukup. Abstract

The study aimed at developing a multilingual thematic picture dictionary as a media to support literacy in English language for fifth grade elementary school students in Bali. This study used Design and Development (D&D) model by Richey and Klein (2014). The steps were (1) analysis, (2) design, (3) development, and (4) evaluation. Fifth grade elementary school students and English teachers from rural and urban area were the research subjects. They were chosen through purposeful sampling technique. In analysis, the data were collected through observation, interview, questionnaire, and document analysis. The result of needs analysis found that there is an urgency of developing multilingual thematic picture dictionary. The students needed dictionary while learning English because it helped them in finding the word’s meaning independently and could help them prepare for additional point while participating in teaching learning process content validity judgement showed that the dictionary was highly valid to criteria of a good multilingual thematic picture dictionary. The result showed that the multilingual thematic picture dictionary was categorized as ‘excellent’ media. Thus, it can be used as a media to support fifth grade elementary school students in developing their literacy skills.

Abstract

Listening skill is one of the language skills which has to be mastered by language learners. It is the first and foremost skill which becomes the foundation for further skills. For those young language learners who are in the phase of development of the so-called concrete operation, and have short span of concentration, language learning will be more effective if it is designed and wrapped up in the form of learning while playing. Song is one of the teaching techniques to assist them to optimize learning. Songs do not only make them happy to learn, increase concentration, enhance security and comfortable feeling, raise interests, but more importantly various vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and language expressions can be contextualized as to support language acquisition. This article aims at sharing theoretical insight and pedagogical practices on the use of special composed songs to accomplish listening instruction for fourth graders of elementary school.

Abstract

This study was a research and development (R&D) which aimed at finding out kinds of supplementary materials, design, and quality of English materials that are required for teaching the tenth grade of architecture engineering department students at SMKN Bali Mandara. The developed material was designed under the Research and Development (R&D) model by Richey and Klein (2007) that involved three processes, namely Design, Development, and Evaluation. The developed materials were identified based on syllabus analysis of 5 (five) English learning topics; announcement, transactional interaction texts, recount text, narrative text, and song lyrics. According to the result of material design identification, in every chapter, it should be completed with the title of the chapter, students’ competency, learning indicators, learning objectives, learning material, and assessment part. The developed material was assessed by three expert judges. The expert judges’ assessment criteria used were based on eight principles in developing good material for English for Specific Purposes (ESP) by Widodo and Pusporini (2010). Those principles are clear goals, learning tasks, students’ interest-based tasks, communication-based tasks, integrated language skills materials, original learning materials, impactful learning materials, and a good role model to be used outside classrooms. The result of the expert judges’ assessment showed that the product was categorized as “Excellent” with a total score of 206. It indicates that this product is applicable for the teacher to improve the teaching-learning process for the tenth grade of Architecture Engineering Department students of SMKN Bali Mandara.                         Keywords: e-learning materials, need analysis, ESP, architecture engineering department.

Abstract

Students’ reading interest influenced students’ reading comprehension. Thus, they needed a strategy and media in reading.  This study aimed to find out the effect of the implementation of the TPS strategy combined with Kahoot! on students reading comprehension. This research was experimental. The research design was post-test only control group design. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The result showed the mean score of the experimental group was 69.33, while the mean score of the control group was 74.67. The result t observed was higher than t critical (2.004 > -1.116) and (2.004 > -1.152). It indicated that accepted the null hypothesis. It concluded that there was no significant effect of the implementation of the TPS strategy combined with Kahoot! of students reading comprehension. The TPS strategy can use for different skills.

Abstract

The study aimed to: (1) describe the implementation of song technique in teaching English for Junior High School students in SMPN 2 Kubutambahan and; (2) find out teachers’ reasons in implementing song technique for teaching English Junior High School students at SMPN 2 Kubutambahan. The study was qualitative research which employed case study design. The subjects were two English teachers in SMPN2 Kubutambahan that was chosen through purposive sampling technique. The instruments were human instrumen, observation sheet and interview guide. The data were collected by note-taking, observation and interview. The collected data have analysed through data analysis method which consisted of data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The results show that: (1) the observed teachers implemented song technique using general syntaxwith other teachers for instance, choosing the proper song, selecting suitable activities, making quiz and providing homework, but in various ways, and; (2) there were several reasons for why the observed teachers implementing song technique i.e. enjoyable, motivating, attractive and vocabulary enhancement factors. Therefore, it could be concluded that even though the English teachers implemented the technique in general syntax, but still there are some variations that teachers applied and they have some important reasons in implementing this technique for teaching English.

Abstract

TINDAK TUTUR GURU DALAM PROSES BELAJAR MENGAJAR DI TK WANGUN SESANA PENARUKAN SINGARAJA oleh Made Ratminingsih, NIM 0712011084 Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan menggambarkan dan menjelaskan (1) bentuk tindak tutur guru dalam proses belajar mengajar di TK Wangun Sesana Penarukan Singaraja dan (2) fungsi tindak tutur guru dalam proses belajar mengajar di TK Wangun Sesana Penarukan Singaraja. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut peneliti menggunakan rancangan penelitian deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru dalam proses belajar mengajar di TK Wangun Sesana Penarukan Singaraja. Data penelitian ini adalah ujaran yang terjadi pada guru selama proses belajar mengajar di kelas. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode observasi, dan wawancara. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif melalui prosedur sebagai berikut (1) reduksi data, (2) klasifikasi dan deskripsi data, dan (3) penyimpulan data. Hasil penelitian ini adalah (1) bentuk tindak tutur yang dinyatakan guru. (1) Bentuk tindak tutur yang dinyatakan oleh guru adalah tuturan bermodus deklaratif (5,4%), interogatif (36%), dan imperatif (58,5%). Bentuk tuturan yang digunakan tersebut sesuai dengan fungsi tuturan yang dinyatakan guru yaitu fungsi asertif, direktif, komisif, ekspresif, dan deklaratif. (2) Fungsi tindak tutur yang digunakan oleh guru adalah 5 fungsi makro dan 13 fungsi mikro yang terdiri atas fungsi asertif yang meliputi menginformasikan (4,5%); fungsi direktif yang meliputi memerintah (24.3%), meminta (27%), bertanya (25,2%), mempersilakan (2,7%), menegur (2,7%), mengingatkan (1,8%), menyuruh (1,8%), dan memberi nasihat (1,8%); fungsi komisif (0%); fungsi ekspresif yang meliputi menyapa (0,9%), mengancam (2,7%), dan memotivasi (1,8%); dan fungsi deklaratif yang meliputi melarang (2,7%). Tuturan yang dinyatakan sebagian besar merupakan tuturan langsung dan lugas. Sesuai dengan hasil penelitian ini disarankan kepada sekolah, pendidik, calon pendidik, dan siswa untuk menyeimbangkan proses komunikasi dalam pembelajaran sesuai dengan tuntunan kurikulum.
