Abstract

Tradisi Siat Sambuk merupakan salah satu tradisi perang simbolik yang dilaksanakan oleh masyarakat Banjar Pohgending, Desa Pitra, Kabupaten Tabanan, Bali. Tradisi dilaksanakan setiap satu tahun sekali pada Hari Pengerupukan menjelang Hari Raya Nyepi. Tradisi ini berpotensi menimbulkan konflik karena melibatkan adu fisik dan emosi antar peserta, tetapi dalam praktiknya tetap berlangsung secara tertib dan terkendali. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji latar belakang pelaksanaan tradisi Siat Sambuk serta bentuk-bentuk pengendalian sosial yang diterapkan dalam pelaksanaannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumen. Informan ditentukan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dan snowball sampling. Data dianalisis menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman melalui tahapan pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelaksanaan tradisi Siat Sambuk dilatarbelakangi oleh faktor kepercayaan mengenai Bhuana Alit dinetralisirkan melalui tradisi, faktor tradisi yang diwariskan secara turun-temurun, serta keyakinan sebagai sarana penolak bala terhadap hal-hal negatif. Selain itu, ditemukan adanya mekanisme pengendalian sosial yang kuat berdasarkan teori kontrol sosial Travis Hirschi, yang meliputi unsur attachment, commitment, involvement, dan believe. Simpulan dari penelitian ini, bahwa tradisi dapat bertahan hingga saat ini dikarenakan terdapat faktor yang melatarbelakanginya. Selain itu dalam mempertahankan tradisi, terdapat berbagai upaya dengan membentuk mekansime pengendalian sosial sehingga tradisi tetap dapat diwariskan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk-bentuk pengendalian sosial yang telah diterapkan dalam pelaksanaan tradisi Tamblang Waluh. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu pendekatan kualitatif jenis deskriptif untuk mengeksplorasi dan mengkaji lebih mendalam mengenai bentuk-bentuk pengendalian sosial dalam tradisi Tamblang Waluh. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode observasi, wawancara terstruktur, dan studi dokumen. Tradisi Tamblang Waluh merupakan pertandingan tendang-menendang yang dilakukan oleh anak laki-laki maupun pemuda Desa Adat Bungaya, Karangasem. Penelitian ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori yang dikemukakan oleh Travis Hirschi terkait kontrol sosial. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa tradisi Tamblang Waluh dilaksanakan secara turun-temurun hingga saat ini karena merupakan warisan budaya leluhur yang memuat mekanisme pengendalian sosial. Dengan menggunakan teori kontrol sosial, dapat diketahui bahwa empat elemen dari teori tersebut yaitu attachment atau kasih sayang, commitment atau tanggung jawab, involvement atau keterlibatan, dan belief atau kepercayaan termuat dalam pelaksanaan tradisi Tamblang Waluh untuk mengendalikan tingkah laku anggota masyarakat agar senantiasa taat terhadap aturan, nilai, dan norma yang berlaku. Berdasarkan sifatnya terdapat bentuk pengendalian sosial preventif dan represif, pengendalian sosial preventif dalam tradisi tersebut berupa pemberian nasihat oleh orang tua, penyampaian aturan oleh tokoh adat, dan keterlibatan wasit atau pelerai. Sedangkan pengendalian sosial represif berupa teguran secara persuasif dan tanpa dikenakan sanksi karena pelanggaran bersifat ringan.

Abstract

The creation of contemporary art using traditional Balinese umbrellas as a medium is an effort to explore various issues currently affecting the agricultural sector and the need to develop strategies to address them. This creation is clearly an effort to reintroduce existing cultural heritage. The discovery of ideas and concepts in creation began by observing the phenomena occurring in the community, particularly in agricultural areas today, and then through critical reflection, finding the connection between the existence of Payung Uang and Lunas and the creation of contemporary artworks that often stem from current social issues. Based on this, the creative idea was formulated: (1) How does the process of creating and shaping contemporary visual art based on the exploration of the traditional Balinese umbrella medium occur? The artwork is expressed through visual language by uniting objects to achieve the intended concept. The creative method used involves several stages: exploration, design, and formation. The formation process is described through several artistic stages, such as: 1. Initial coloring (imprimatura), 2. Coloring, 3. Finishing. The creation of contemporary art resulted in sixteen works divided into three major works titled: 1) Concrete Area, 2) Narrated Landscape.

Abstract

The Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program is a policy of the Ministry of Education and Culture aimed at encouraging students to master various fields of knowledge as preparation for entering the professional world. At ISI Denpasar, the MBKM program this year is implemented in collaboration with industry partners in the fields of art, design, creative industries, and culture. This research originates from the idea of creating visual artworks inspired by reliefs and rerajahan. Reliefs, as two- and three-dimensional carvings found in Balinese temples, hold strong historical, religious, and artistic values, although some have been diminished due to renovations that neglect the original ornamentation. Meanwhile, rerajahan represents magical and spiritual symbols in Balinese Hindu traditions, enriched with sacred modre characters believed to possess divine energy. The creative process was carried out through literature review, observation of temple reliefs, and visual exploration of modern scripts in rerajahan. The outcomes consist of two-dimensional artworks (paintings) and three-dimensional ornamentations that integrate the form of reliefs with the symbolic strength of rerajahan, using expressionist and impressionist approaches to reinterpret traditional forms. The implication of this work shows that combining reliefs and rerajahan can create contemporary artistic expressions rooted in tradition while also contributing to the preservation of Balinese cultural, historical, spiritual, and aesthetic values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of creating symbolic concrete sculptures at Yan Dede Studio through an artistic practice approach. The research focuses on the development of conceptual ideas, material exploration, and technical realization in producing sculptures with socio-cultural meaning. The method used in this research follows four stages of artistic creation: exploration, experimentation, realization, and evaluation. Data were collected through observation of the sculpting process, documentation of artistic development, and reflective analysis of the final artwork. The results show that the sculpture represents a symbolic critique of human moral conflict through the hybrid figure of a human body combined with a pig’s head holding a rooster. The work reflects the duality of human nature between rationality and instinct. This study confirms that artistic creation in concrete sculpture can function as a medium for social reflection and cultural expression in contemporary art practice.

Abstract

Makepung is a tradition in Jembrana Regency practiced by the local community as an expression of gratitude for their rice harvest; however, as time has passed, this tradition has undergone significant changes. This study aims to identify the sociocultural changes occurring in Makepung, the causes of these changes, and the impacts resulting from them. This study employs a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through participant observation, unstructured in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the Makepung tradition has undergone significant socio-cultural changes across six aspects: the form of implementation (from spontaneous to structured), social function (from farmers’ entertainment to regional identity and tourism promotion), meaning and values (from simplicity and gratitude to competition and prestige), participants (from a homogeneous agrarian group to a heterogeneous multi-stakeholder group), venue (from rice fields to an official circuit), and accessories (from simple to luxurious). These changes did not occur overnight but resulted from several factors, ranging from modernization and government intervention to a gradual evolution that went largely unnoticed. These changes have had a general impact, such that the public now views Makepung as a cohesive and uniform cultural entity. Additionally, these changes have had a differential impact: due to the interactions and agreements among Makepung practitioners, this has led to numerous changes resulting from mutual consensus.
