Abstract

This study aims to analyze the advantages, challenges, and optimization efforts of the digital library at MI Baitussalam, Dusun Betiring, Desa Banjarsari, Kecamatan Cerme. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results indicate that the digital library offers several advantages, including modern facilities, e-books, Smart TV, and internet access, which support interactive and flexible learning. However, its utilization faces several challenges, such as low student reading interest, limited number of computers, lack of innovative digital literacy programs, and occasionally unstable internet connection. Optimization efforts include reading literacy programs, the use of Smart TV, parental involvement, addition of computers, teacher training, and enrichment of digital collections. In conclusion, the digital library at MI Baitussalam has great potential to improve students' literacy, but its effectiveness requires collaborative support among the school, teachers, students, and parents, as well as sustainable innovative literacy programs.

Abstract

Transformational leadership has an ideal role in managing education in the digital era; the need for education to transform from various digitalization challenges should be noted for making decisions by prioritizing the vision and goals of education in the digital era. Hence, the purpose of this study is to analyze the role of transformational leadership in encouraging digital innovation in the world of education, analyze the characteristics of effective transformational leadership in supporting technology integration in the world of education, and examine the challenges faced by educational leaders in implementing digital innovation based on transformational leadership. The research method used is a systematic literature review, which analyzes articles from 2020-2025 through PRISMA analysis. The study found that a leader’s role starts with channeling positive attitudes with a clear vision, driving change, motivators and inspirators, role models/examples, and becoming a foundation for building a sustainable organizational culture. So several characteristics of leaders were found, such as Idealized Influence, Inspirational Motivation, Intellectual Stimulation, Individualized Consideration, Digital Competence, and Visionary Leadership. However, in terms of implementation, several challenges are still found, ranging from digital competency gaps, lack of digital literacy, limited infrastructure, resistance to change, lack of ongoing training, and lack of understanding of AI and the theoretical implications of this study are the development of Bass and Avolio’s theory on the characteristics of transformational leadership through Four I’s: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration, by adding one character that is in line with the challenges of education in the digital era, namely digital competence and visionary leadership with the abbreviation Four I’s and DV.

Abstract

The role of the Kyai in maintaining the stability and character of santri (Islamic boarding school students) is a fundamental responsibility that cannot be replaced. The dynamic interplay of cultural diversity and varying social conditions must be carefully considered in managing pesantren, especially amidst the widespread issue of radicalism. This study aims to analyze how the Kyai's leadership model, grounded in local wisdom, functions as a strategy to prevent radicalism within pesantren environments, and how this model can contribute to the development of relevant and high-quality education in the Global South. It also explores the challenges faced by Kyai leadership when rooted in local cultural values. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. The primary sources of data include Kyai, pesantren administrators, and santri, collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis follows Yin's case study framework, involving pattern matching, explanation building, time-series analysis, and repeated observation. Data validity is ensured through triangulation of methods, sources, and theoretical perspectives. The findings reveal that the Kyai’s leadership model based on the prophetic (Nubuwwah) approach, integrated with the pesantren’s local wisdom namely the Panca Jiwa (five foundational values) and the four spiritual pillars serves as a key ideological defense mechanism against the spread of radicalism in the pesantren. Future research is recommended to expand this model across various pesantren and to apply methodological innovations that test the effectiveness of this integrated prophetic-local leadership approach in responding to global challenges.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic triggered global food security threats, prompting the Indonesian government to launch the Food Estate as a National Strategic Project. A defining feature of this policy is the active involvement of the military, with the Ministry of Defence appointed as the leading sector. This study analyzes the factors and implications of military involvement in food governance (2020–2024) through Donald Travis’s Pragmatic Civil Control theory. Findings indicate that the government utilized the pandemic as a "political opportunity" to prioritize military command efficiency over civilian bureaucratic processes. While this pragmatic approach seeks rapid results, it reflects "food securitization" that bypasses traditional democratic checks. Evidence shows a significant disconnect between these efficiency goals and reality: the marginalization of Dayak indigenous rights in Central Kalimantan, a lack of public participation, and a shift toward centralized, hierarchical governance. Ultimately, the normalization of the military’s role in civilian spheres risks deepening democratic regression. This study concludes that such pragmatism may revive "dual function" (dwifungsi) patterns, threatening civilian supremacy and the sustainability of Indonesia’s post-Reformasi democratic values.

Abstract

Although Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been rapidly integrated into contemporary education, little scholarly attention has been paid to its implications on the epistemological, theological, and cultural foundations of Islamic Religious Education (IRE). This study aims to systematically analyze the implementation patterns, effects, and challenges of AI on IRE learning in the digital age. This study was conducted through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by using Publish or Perish software to retrieve relevant articles from Scopus, Web of Science, Semantic Scholar, and Google Scholar databases on 01 August 2025, using the Boolean search query: ("Islamic Education" OR "Islamic Religious Education") AND ("Artificial Intelligence" OR "AI") AND ("Learning" OR "Digital Learning"). This study found that, overall, AI was used to facilitate personalized learning, feedback, and adaptive digital learning platforms, promoting students’ engagement in IRE learning. However, its potential effectiveness was dependent on pedagogical considerations, teachers’ digital literacy, and institutions’ readiness. This study identified challenges related to its implementation, including ethical considerations, tensions between algorithmic knowledge and religious authority, and technological disparities. This study introduces a new theoretical framework, namely, the Sixth-Element Islamic Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (SEI-CHAT) with a normative-epistemological element, focusing on the relationship between Naqli-Aqli knowledge

Abstract

The environmental crisis demands an educational approach that is not only technical but also spiritual and moral. This study aims to analyze the implementation of ecological fiqh in shaping students’ environmental care character at MTs Al Hikam Jombang through the Adiwiyata program. This research employed a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that ecological fiqh was systematically integrated into the school’s vision, mission, curriculum, learning activities, and institutional culture. Fiqh-based values such as muhasabah (self-reflection), mu’āhadah (commitment), mu‘āqabah (spiritual sanction), muraqabah (awareness of God’s presence), and mujahādah (struggle against ego) were instilled through participatory environmental actions. Students not only gained knowledge of environmental issues but also recognized them as a religious responsibility rooted in the Islamic mandate of stewardship (khalifah) on Earth. This study affirms that fiqh can be reconstructed as a contextual ethical-educational framework, and that Islamic education holds great potential to foster spiritually grounded environmental education.
