Abstract

Produktivitas dan kesehatan ternak di daerah tropis sangat dipengaruhi oleh daya adaptasinya terhadap lingkungan tropis yang panas dan lembab. Penelitian ini bertujuan membandingkan daya tahan panas (DTP) pada bangsa sapi Peranakan Ongole (PO), Peranakan Simental (PS) dan Peranakan Limousin (PL) yang dipelihara di Kampung Astomulyo, Kabupaten Lampung Tengah yang memiliki indeks cekaman lingkungan tinggi di siang hari serta sedang di pagi dan sore hari. Mayoritas sapi memiliki nilai DTP diatas 100 dan tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada nilai DTP antar bangsa sapi. Bangsa sapi PO, PS, dan PL memiliki daya tahan panas yang baik dan mampu beradaptasi di lingkungan yang panas dan lembab.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the total erythrocyte count, hematocrit value, and hemoglobin concentration in broiler chicken treated with turmeric, garlic, and zinc supplementation. One hundred broiler chickens were divided intofive groups by randomized and four replications of each. Feed supplement combinations were R0 (basal), R1 (garlic and turmeric), R2 (garlic and zinc), R3 (turmeric and zinc), and R4 (turmeric, garlic and zinc). Blood sample was taken at the age of 6 weeks after treatment to determine total erythrocyte count, hematocrit value, and hemoglobin concentration. The result showed that total erythrocyte count in group of R3 (turmeric powder 1.5% and zinc oxide 120 ppm) were significantly higher than R0 (P0.05) were 3.320.73x106/l. Total erythrocyte count, hematocrit value, and hemoglobin concentration groupof R2 and R3 were tended to be higher than R0, meanwhile group of R4 did not different from R0. Feed supplemented with hebal and zink would increase the total erythrocyte count, hematocrit value, and hemoglobin concentration in broiler chicken.

Abstract

This study was conducted with aim to tend out morphology of oesophagus and stomach of the cave swiflets (Collocalia linchi) at macroscopic and microscopic levels. The data revealed that esophagus was 2.93 cm in length and possessed no crop. The stomach was small and the isthmus was not clear. Mucosa of the esophagus was lined by stratified squoamus epithelium. Esophageal gland was mucous type. The glands were well developed and distributed along the esophagus. The external muscle layer consisted of inner circular and outer longitudinal layers. The stomach could be distinguished into proventriculus and ventriculus with no clear isthmus between them. The mucosa of proventriculus was lined by single columnar epithelium. The ventricular gland area was divided into cardiac, fundic and pyloric gland areas. The surface of ventriculus was lined with cuticula. In general the esophagus and stomach of the cave swiftlets were simple with no crop in the esophagus and isthmus in the stomach. These might be related with the kind of food and feeding behavior of this species.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui efek asap rokok terhadap perubahan kualitas spermatozoa dan jumlah sel-sel spermatogenik. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan perlakuan asap rokok 10 batang/ekor/hari selama 2,5 jam dalam smoking chamber terhadap 24 ekor tikus jantan yang dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok, masing-masing 6 ekor dalam tiap kelompok. Kelompok P1 adalah kelompok yang tidak diberi perlakuan (kontrol), P2 adalah kelompok yang dipapar asap rokok selama 20 hari, P3 adalah kelompok yang dipapar asap rokok selama 40 hari, P4 adalah kelompok yang dipapar asap rokok selama 60 hari. Parameter yang diamati adalah kualitas spermatozoa dan jumlah sel-sel spermatogenik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemaparan asap rokok dapat menurunkan konsentrasi spermatozoa dan viabilitas spermatozoa serta meningkatkan abnormalitas spermatozoa. Disimpulkan bahwa pemaparan asap rokok 10 batang/ekor/hari menyebabkan penurunan kualitas spermatozoa dan jumlah sel-sel spermatogenik yang tidak kembali ke kondisi normal setelah proses penyembuhan.

Abstract

Pada penelitian ini, purwoceng diberikan pada tikus betina bunting umur 1-13 hari dengan tujuan mengetahui bobot badan, ovarium, dan uterus serta mempertahankan titik implantasi yang terbentuk sebelum masa implantasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan 2 kelompok yaitu kelompok tikus bunting kontrol dan tikus bunting yang mendapatkan purwoceng dengan dosis 25 mg/300 g bobot badan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelompok tikus yang diberi purwoceng cenderung memiliki bobot ovarium dan uterus lebih berat dibandingkan kelompok kontrol. Purwoceng juga menyebabkan jumlah titik implantasi tikus hampir mendekati jumlah korpus luteum yang sudah terbentuk, dan ini menunjukkan bahwa keberhasilan implantasi lebih baik pada kelompok tikus yang diberi purwoceng.

Abstract

Physalis angulata L. (ciplukan) is traditionally used as an herbal remedy with anticancer and antioxidant properties. At the same time, busulfan, a chemotherapy alkylating agent, causes gonadotoxicity and oxidative stress that impair female reproduction. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of P. angulata on reproductive function after busulfan administration in female rats. Twenty-five 6-week-old female rats were randomly divided into: Group I (control), Group II (busulfan only), Group III (P. angulata only), Group IV (busulfan followed by P. angulata after 14 days), and Group V (busulfan and P. angulata administered for 28 days). FSHR and LHR expression in the ovaries and MDA levels in the ovaries and uterus were measured to assess reproductive changes. Busulfan showed no significant effect on FSHR and LHR, whereas P. angulata induced downregulation, suggesting a potential negative feedback mechanism on ovarian receptors. Ovarian MDA showed a decreasing trend with combined treatments, while uterine MDA peaked after busulfan but declined markedly with P. angulata, indicating its role in alleviating oxidative stress. In conclusion, P. angulata may modulate hormonal balance in rat ovaries and decrease oxidative stress in the uterus after busulfan treatment.

Abstract

Purwoceng (Pimpinella alpina KDS) merupakan tanaman obat tradisional yang telah banyak diteliti khasiat androgeniknya dalam penelitian reproduksi jantan. Namun, pengaruhnya terhadap kinerja reproduksi betina masih kurang dipahami. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki pengaruh purwoceng terhadap durasi setiap fase estrus dan keseluruhan siklus estrus pada tikus betina. Empat puluh delapan tikus Sprague-Dawley betina perawan dibagi menjadi empat kelompok berdasarkan fase estrus mereka pada awal perlakuan: proestrus, oestrus, metestrus, dan diestrus. Setiap kelompok terdiri dari enam ekor kontrol dan enam ekor tikus yang diberi Purwoceng. Ekstrak diberikan secara intragastrik selama sepuluh hari berturut-turut, sementara evaluasi apusan vagina dilanjutkan hingga hari ke-15 untuk memantau siklus estrus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian purwoceng selama dua siklus estrus umumnya memperpanjang fase proestrus dan estrus, dengan perpanjangan fase estrus yang signifikan secara statistik diamati ketika perlakuan diberikan selama estrus (P < 0,05). Sebaliknya, durasi fase metestrus dan diestrus berkurang, kecuali ketika Purwoceng diberikan selama metestrus, yang mengakibatkan peningkatan durasi metestrus. Kesimpulannya, purwoceng menunjukkan efek modulasi terbesar ketika diberikan selama fase estrus, menunjukkan responsivitas siklus reproduksi betina yang bergantung pada fase terhadap ekstrak herbal ini.

Abstract

Metabolic rate and oxygen saturation are crucial factors in understanding the physiology of fruit bats (Cynopterus titthaecheilus and Cynopterus brachyotis). This study aims to evaluate the resting metabolic rate and oxygen saturation in bats and their relationship to flight physiology. A total of 32 bats were categorized based on species, sex, and age. Metabolic rate was measured using a metabolic chamber method, while oxygen saturation was monitored using a patient monitoring system. The results showed that bat metabolism is influenced by various factors, including age and sex, without a significant correlation with body mass. Adult female bats exhibited highly fluctuating metabolic rates, possibly due to hormonal factors and increased energy demands during lactation. Additionally, C. titthaecheilus had an oxygen saturation of 94%±2.00 for males and 94%±1.73 for females, whereas C. brachyotis showed 98%±0.00 in males and 87%±4.16 in females. The high oxygen saturation in bats indicates an efficient oxygen transport system that supports their high metabolic activity during flight. This study provides insights into the physiological strategies of bats in maintaining high metabolism and oxygenation capacity, which are relevant to their ecology and overall health.
