Abstract

Teachers are expected to possess a range of professional competencies, one of which is the ability to design effective learning evaluations. This study investigates the ability of grade V teachers to develop Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions aligned with the National Assessment (ANBK), the steps they follow in question development, and the challenges they encounter in the process. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving one group of four elementary schools in the Sungaipua Cluster 1. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal that most grade V teachers lack the necessary skills to construct ANBK-based HOTS questions. This is attributed to varying educational backgrounds and a limited understanding of the ANBK framework. Additionally, teachers often bypass the process of developing original question items, relying instead on questions sourced from the internet. Their limited knowledge of proper question design procedures further hampers their ability to develop effective assessments. A key challenge identified is that the lack of teacher proficiency in HOTS question design translates into student difficulties in mastering higher-order thinking competencies. These findings suggest a need for targeted professional development to enhance teachers’ understanding and skills in HOTS-aligned assessment practices.

Abstract

This research was conducted because of the low student learning outcomes. So, the researcher developed a student worksheet. The purpose to be achieved from this research is to produce inquiry-based worksheets that are valid, practical, and effective. This type of research is development research.  The development method used is the Plomp model, which consists of three stages, namely preliminary research, prototyping phase, and assessment stage. Research data were obtained from validity, practicality and effectiveness tests. The results showed that the inquiry-based LKS for grade IV SD developed had met the valid criteria with the characteristics of clear LKS content, in accordance with the curriculum, containing questions that guide students to find learning concepts based on inquiry principles, clear LKS format, sentences and language used are clear, simple, concise and easy to understand, and the presentation is clear. In addition, the LKS developed has also been effective in increasing student learning activities and results with a student learning completeness rate of 91.17%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the inquiry-based IPAS worksheet developed for grade IV elementary school students is valid, practical, and effective

Abstract

The integration of technology into elementary education is essential for creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences. This study aims to develop an interactive educational comic based on Canva as an innovative learning medium to enhance students’ motivation and learning outcomes in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS). The objective is to produce a learning medium that is valid, practical, and effective for use in elementary schools. This research adopts a Research and Development approach using the 4D model comprising Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages. Data were collected through expert validation questionnaires, classroom observations, and learning achievement tests, and analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the product. The results show that the Canva-based educational comic obtained a validity score of 98.2 percent indicating a highly valid category, a practicality score of 94.7 percent indicating a highly practical category, and an N-Gain score of 0.74 indicating high effectiveness in improving learning outcomes. These findings demonstrate that the developed media can significantly enhance students’ conceptual understanding and learning engagement in IPAS. In conclusion, the Canva-based interactive comic is a feasible and beneficial learning medium for elementary education and contributes to the development of digital learning resources that align with the Merdeka Curriculum. Future research is recommended to apply this media across different grade levels and subjects while integrating more dynamic interactive features to enrich the learning experience.

Abstract

This study developed a Google Sites–based digital learning medium to enhance Civic Education learning for grade V elementary school students. Preliminary analysis revealed that learning was still dominated by teacher-centred methods, limited media use, and low student engagement, indicating the need for interactive digital resources. The study aimed to produce a valid, practical, and effective learning medium for the topic “Norma dalam Kehidupanku.” Using the ADDIE development model, the research followed a systematic procedure comprising needs analysis, media design, digital content development, expert validation, limited implementation, revision, and final evaluation. Participants included grade V teachers and students from three public elementary schools in Padang. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, and pretest–posttest assessments, and analyzed using percentage scores and N-Gain. Results showed very high validity (93.89%), teacher practicality (99.17%), and student practicality (87.82%). Effectiveness testing demonstrated significant improvement in learning outcomes, with the average score increasing from 78.9 (pretest) to 96.6 (posttest) and an N-Gain of 0.90 (high category). These findings confirm that Google Sites–based media effectively support interactive, accessible, and contextual Civic Education learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited variety of interactive learning media in Pancasila Education at the elementary school level, which results in low student engagement. The use of interactive multimedia based on the Book Creator application is expected to improve students’ motivation, understanding, and participation. This research employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation, involving fifth-grade students from SD Negeri Percobaan Padang, SDN 24 Ujung Gurun, and SDN 05 Padang Pasir. The research instruments consisted of expert validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, and pre-test and post-test items to measure effectiveness. The data analysis techniques included descriptive quantitative analysis to calculate the percentages of validity, practicality, and effectiveness, as well as N-Gain calculations to determine the improvement in learning outcomes. The results showed that the media obtained high validation scores from material experts (90%), media experts (83%), and language experts (97%), categorized as very valid. In the practicality test, teachers gave a score of 96% and students 92%, both categorized as very practical, while the effectiveness test yielded a score of 82%, categorized as effective. Continuous evaluation was conducted to ensure that the media remained aligned with the curriculum, students’ needs, and technological developments. Thus, the Book Creator interactive multimedia is declared valid, practical, and effective, and can serve as an engaging and meaningful alternative learning medium in Pancasila Education at the elementary school level.
