Abstract

Hybrid chili plants are very susceptible to pests and diseases. Therefore, nowadays farmers tend to cultivate lokal chilies. This is because empirically local chilies are proven to be more resistant to pests and diseases than hybrid chilies. West Sumatra has a very varied genetic diversity of local chilies. Unfortunately its potential is still not optimally utilized. The aim of the study was to observe the growth and yield of several genotypes of local West Sumatra chilies. This experiment used a completely randomized design (CRD) to test six local chili genotypes, namely: Pesisir Selatan, Ateng Pasaman Barat, Dhamasraya 2, Ateng Maninjau, Tanah Datar, and Kampung Manangah Solok Selatan. Data were analyzed using the F test of variance and continued with the Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% level. The results showed that plant height, number of fruits per plant, fruit weight per plant, fruit diameter, fruit length and capsaicin content were affected by the chili genotypeINTISARI Tanaman cabai hibrida sangat rentan terhadap serangan hama dan penyakit.

Abstract

Modeling science has been applied by many advanced countries in many fields, such as geology, meteorology, climate change, crop productivity, environment, erosion, and landslide. The crop model simulates the processes of agriculture. The writing of this article is descriptive qualitative using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. So far, each model has its advantages and disadvantages but generally is based on the physiology of the growth and development of crops in relationship with soil, climate, solar radiation energy, and limiting factors to plant growth. There have been many models for rice that can forecast yield and biomass or predict future climate change dynamics. Meanwhile, many models such as DSSAT, AquaCrop, Oryza, APSIM, EPIC need more data to operate their modeling, which in many cases, data is not readily available. In this review, we would like to introduce the model “SIMPLE” which includes only thirteen parameters and four of which describe cultivar characteristics. Another advantage of “SIMPLE” is that it can be adapted for many crop species and added variable modules such as nutrient dynamics, water stress, temperature stress, or pests. It is entirely open source based on R programming, but limitations still exist that have been mentioned in the review.

Abstract

South Solok Regency is one of the potential areas for rice development in West Sumatra Province. The local rice in South Solok Regency is a type of rice that can potentially be developed for germplasm conservation. One genetic resource that needs to be developed is abiotic and biotic resistance to conserve germplasm so that the local rice plants in South Solok can be maintained on certain lands. The first step that must be taken in conservation efforts is to find, identify and collect local rice genotypes in South Solok Regency. This study aimed to explore and characterize the morphology of local grain and rice in Solok Selatan Regency. This study used a survey method, and the exploration location was determined by purposive sampling. The survey results found 18 local South Solok rice genotypes from four sub-districts. The results of grain morphological characterization showed differences in quantitative properties (length, width, thickness, and weight of 100 grains of grain and caryopsis and grain tail length) as well as differences in qualitative characteristics (lemma and palea color, rice color (caryopsis) and shape, rice (caryopsis). Dendrogram results from cluster analysis of 18 local rice genotypes of South Solok, the coefficient of similarity was between 0.27 – 0.64 (27 -64%) with the highest similarity coefficient of genotypes G013 (rambuman variety) and G016 (redek sangir variety) with a value of 0.64 (64%).

Abstract

Several varieties of rice are cultivated in West Sumatra including red rice (Oryza sativaL.) but drought is an obstacle to its cultivation. The purpose of this study was to observe the interaction of red rice with Polyethylene glycol, to determine which genotypes of red rice are ‘drought’ tolerant in the vegetative phase and to see the effect of Polyethylene glycol on the growth of red rice. This research was conducted in the Agronomy Laboratory and Greenhouse, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University from October to November 2016. A Complete Random Factorial Design (10 x 2) with 3 replications was used. The first factor was the genotype of the local red rice (10 tested) and the second factor was either with or without Polyethylene glycol. Data were analyzed statistically with the F-test at the 5% level. Significant differences were further tested using Duncan's New Multiple Range Test at the 5% level. The variables observed were: plant height, the number of roots and the length of the longest root penetrating a vaseline/paraffin layer (wax layer method), plant fresh and dry weight and proline content. An interaction between red rice and Polyethylene glycol (20%) was observed. Only genotype 7 “Batu Kangkung” was tolerant to ‘drought’ in the vegetative phase and treatment with Polyethylene glycol affected plant height, length and number of roots penetrating the wax layer as well as the fresh weight of the plant.

Abstract

Oil palm has the prospect of rapid development in Indonesia, which causes an increase in plantation area to continue. However, the problem that is still encountered is the low productivity and quality of crop production. The solution that can be used is the use of planting material derived from superior varieties. High-yielding varieties are assembled through hybridization of two varieties that have the desired superior properties. Observation of the flower development cycle is needed as the basis for the hybridization process. Flower development is not only influenced by genetic factors, but also by environmental factors, especially climate. Observations on plant responses are part of a phenological study. This research was carried out in April-August 2021 at Pabatu Gardens, PTPN IV with the aim of observing the flowering phenology of the DxP 540 NG and DxP Socfindo MT Gano varieties. The climatic conditions of the research location during the observation were an average temperature of 29°C, 80% humidity, and an average rainfall of 145 mm/month. The average time required for the DxP 540 NG variety of male and female flowers, the growth phase of the sheath until the outer sheath broke, was 40 days and 38 days, the outer sheath broke until the inner sheath burst was 15 days and 18 days, the inner sheath broke to full bloom was 12 days. days and 16 days, and in full bloom until the flowers are completely pollinated, namely 4 days and 6 days. The average time required for the DxP 540 NG variety of male and female flowers in the growth phase of the sheath until the outer sheath breaks are 32 days and 30 days, the outer sheath breaks until the inner sheath bursts are 16 days and 15 days, the inner sheath bursts to full bloom, namely 11 days and 15 days, and in full bloom until the flowers are perfectly pollinated, namely 4 days and 6 days. The total time required for flowering for the male and female DxP 540 NG varieties was 71 days and 78 days, while for the DxP Socfindo MT Gano variety, male and female flowers were 63 days and 66 days, respectively.
