Abstract

This study aims to identify the urgency of innovation in Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in guiding prospective teachers to have moderate characters. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were taken using observation techniques and documentation studies. The data were analyzed in three stages consisting of data reduction, data display and conclusion. The results of the study indicate that innovation in learning models of project-based learning in integrating the values of religious moderation is very important because it can meet the demands of learning that accommodates 21st century competencies, namely communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking skills in solving problems. In addition, prospective teachers today require Moral Knowing as a basis in making a decision, including in the context of religious moderation. This study has implications for the importance of innovating in learning to meet the competencies of prospective teachers with moderate characters. Therefore, teachers, lecturers or stakeholders need to continue to encourage project-based learning models through a Moral Knowing approach, especially in integrating moderation values. This research needs to continue to be developed in order to integrate moderate character values in prospective teachers

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate Arabic teaching module based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) to enhance students' critical thinking abilities. The textbook was developed using the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) and focused on reading skills. The sample included 18 students from Al-Hikmah Batu School. Data were collected through interviews, observations, tests, and documentation, yielding both qualitative and quantitative results. The findings showed that the educational materials, integrating HOTS components, were relevant to students' daily lives, covering topics like greetings, family, school, hobbies, and food. Expert assessments of content and media validity were high, with a score of 90.62%. The effectiveness test showed a significant increase in student performance, from 58.22 in the pre-test to 75.94 in the post-test. The paired sample T-test confirmed the statistical significance of the results (T = -10.050, p = 0.000), demonstrating the effectiveness of the HOTS-based reading textbook.

Abstract

Affective domain assessment in Arabic language learning is still rarely done systematically due to time constraints and teacher confusion over assessment indicators. As a result, students are less involved in reflective processes that support learning awareness and self-regulation. This study aims to develop a self-assessment instrument on the four Arabic language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), which also train students' metacognitive abilities. The research method employed is the Borg and Gall development steps by adapting them into four steps: Research and information collecting, planning, product development, and validity test. This research produces a self-assessment instrument that combines the Arabic textbook of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (2020) and the competency standards of KMA 183 (2019) for the four Arabic language skills. The self-assessment instrument contains: 1) title; 2) instructions for filling; 3) student identity; 4) theme and basic competencies that must be achieved; and 5) self-assessment questionnaire. The validation results from the three validators indicated that the self-assessment instrument was valid and appropriate for use in assessing students’ proficiency in Arabic language learning.

Abstract

Social skills are essential to 21st-century education, but many elementary school students in Indonesia still demonstrate low social skills due to the dominance of conventional teacher-centered learning approaches. This study aims to analyze the effect of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) on improving elementary school students' social skills and identify the dimensions of social skills that are most influenced by this approach. The study used a quasi-experimental design involving 80 fifth-grade students divided into an experimental group (PjBL) and a control group (conventional learning). The measurement instrument was a social skills test covering six dimensions: cooperation, communication, conflict resolution, empathy, decision-making, and leadership. Data analysis was conducted using t-tests after validity, reliability, normality, and homogeneity were confirmed. The results showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) between the two groups in all social skill dimensions, with the experimental group showing higher average scores. The dimensions of empathy and leadership showed the highest increases. These findings support social constructivist theory and strengthen the argument that collaborative, contextual learning can effectively develop students' social competencies. The implications of this study include the need for systematic adoption of PjBL in elementary schools as a strategy to support character-building and holistic learning in line with national curriculum requirements and 21st-century social needs.

Abstract

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools should adapt the learning curriculum to the needs of current developments. Among them is preparing students to communicate in an international language, namely Arabic, especially in the era of industrial revolution 4.0. Unfortunately, Arabic language learning in Islamic boarding schools often still uses classical methods. Even though the use of Arabic as a communication language is really needed by students in the future. This research tries to reveal the opportunities and challenges of learning Arabic within the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) framework in Islamic boarding schools. The researcher chose the An-Nur 2 Al-Murtadlo Malang Islamic Boarding School, which provides Arabic language learning to its students. This qualitative descriptive research was carried out by means of interviews and observations with caregivers, ustadz (teacher), and students to determine the extent of their understanding of CEFR. As a result, the Islamic boarding school did not implement the CEFR curriculum because they were not familiar with it. Among the opportunities for implementing the CEFR curriculum in Arabic language learning at Islamic boarding schools are improving the quality of learning and learning accessibility, while the challenges faced are curriculum adjustments and limited human resources.

Abstract

Learning Arabic through immersion programs has a significant impact on improving language skills. This study explores the differences in the implementation of immersion programs between domestic and foreign institutions with a focus on teacher performance and student achievement. The lack of comparative studies in this area motivates more in-depth analyses to understand the variation in effectiveness. The literature study approach compares teaching practices and learning outcomes in both contexts. The study results revealed that the immersion program improved students' Arabic language skills by up to 54.0%. However, there was a variation in success between domestic and international institutions. This difference is mainly due to different teaching approaches and the use of learning media. Teachers abroad use student-centred communicative methods, while traditional methods dominate domestically. In addition, the use of educational technology is more optimal abroad, which has an impact on student learning outcomes. This study's implications emphasise adapting immersion programs tailored to local characteristics. The exchange of best practices between domestic and foreign institutions and the continuous training of teachers is essential to improve the effectiveness of Arabic language learning globally.
