Abstract

In relating with other people, the cooperative principle may be done to make a dialogue run well and efficiently. However, there are chances when speakers have to violate a maxim because of some reason. Maxim of quality talks about; first, the participants in conversation. Second, they should not say something without adequate evidence. Maxim of quantity is concerned with providing information as required. It should not be less informative or more informative. Maxim of relevance recommends that the utterance should be relevant to the topic being conversed. Maxim of manner requires the speaker's utterance to be understandable or comprehensible or not ambiguous. It should be not be blurred. This study aims to determine the kinds of maxim violations done by the students during classroom interaction and the reasons behind the students violating the maxims. This study used observation and interview methods to collect the data. The study results show that there are three maxims violated by students, namely violating the maxim of quantity, relevance, and quality, with a total of 25 utterances. The students violate the maxim because they want to save face and build someone’s belief. This study found that the students violated three maxims when interacting with the teacher. They were violating the maxim of quality, violating the maxim of quantity, and violating the maxim of relevance. This study found 2 violating the maxim of quality, 14 violating the maxim of quantity, and 9 violating the maxim of relevance.

Abstract

Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is one of the teaching methods highly promoted in the status quo, especially in EFL classes. Regarding this, numerous studies indicate that PBL is effective in enhancing student learning performance, particularly in enhancing problem-solving abilities and self-efficacy learning. However, research on PBL's use in Indonesia, particularly in EFL reading classes, is still barely to be found. Hence, this study is aimed to investigate the implementation of PBL in EFL reading classes by means to investigate how the stages of PBL were implemented and to see what PBL principles have been achieved in the learning activity. This study is produced from qualitative research in the form of a case study, where observations were done during the learning process. The findings indicate that PBL is applicable to be implemented in higher education because the teacher’s actions cover all stages of PBL. However, there is still one principle that must be considered namely student collaboration. One of the expectations of teachers for students is that they can have critical thinking and be able to learn independently, therefore, this can be achieved by making PBL a learning method in the classroom.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of student engagement shown by students in the English Language Course. The second objective is to find out the factors that influence student engagement. This research was conducted on 8th grade students at Garut High School. To achieve these objectives, qualitative research with a case study design was used with observation and interview data collection techniques. The sample for this study consisted of 35 students. Out of all the participants, three participated in the interview. The results showed that there were three types of student engagement found, namely cognitive engagement, behavioral engagement, and affective engagement. It was found that the most dominant type was cognitive engagement. The results also show that the five factors presented by Fredricks, Blumenfeld, and Paris (2004) influence student engagement in English language courses. The five factors are: school level, teacher support, peers, classroom structure, and task characteristics.

Abstract

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) experience difficulties in managing Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) in the workplace. Apart from poor OHS conditions, it is also caused by a lack of systematic OHS management. Work Improvement in Small Enterprises (WISE) is a participatory training program to help MSMEs increase workplace productivity and efficiency through implementing OHS aspects. The high number of accidents and injuries occurred 20% more often in small companies compared to companies with more than 100 workers and 40% more often than in companies with more than 1000 workers. So, it can be concluded that MSMEs are more vulnerable to work accidents and K3 management in MSMEs is still very lacking. This research aims to reduce the risk of work accidents in MSMEs using the WISE method.

Abstract

Abstract

Accidents and injuries are still 20% more common in small companies, including MSMEs, compared to large companies. Lack of safety awareness is one of the obstacles why safety is not widely implemented in the MSME area. In line with this description, the MSME group in Wiyung District, Surabaya City, has not experienced an increase in profit over the past few years, due to declining employee productivity. This is suspected because of the frequent occurrence of accidents that cause injuries to employees, thereby affecting their absenteeism levels and impacting lost working days which affects productivity. Based on these problems, training was carried out to increase safety awareness through the Work Improvements in Small Enterprise (WISE) program which aims to increase safety awareness for MSME groups as well as improve working conditions through the application of safety values.

Abstract

Over-the-Top (OTT) is a form of information technology innovation that is growing very rapidly, including in Indonesia as one of the largest OTT market country. OTT can earn income from users in Indonesia, while the right to tax this income cannot be imposed in Indonesia because OTT generally operates across national borders and does not have a permanent establishment in Indonesia. Therefore, it is necessary to consider income tax arrangements for OTT operating in Indonesia to provide legal certainty. This paper focuses on discussing the positive legal provisions of Income Tax that apply to OTT operating in Indonesia and the implementation of each of these regulations in the current era of economic digitalization. The author uses a normative juridical research method with a qualitative research approach. Based on this research, it is known that the provision of Income Tax for OTT does not yet exist, therefore the Government of Indonesia needs to design a national tax law that is able to accommodate income tax for OTT.

Abstract

The The success of a project is marked by the achievement of the planned target. However, in its implementation, delays often occur, including in the hull replating work. In the ship repair project X at PT XYZ, this work experienced a schedule delay due to constraints on materials/equipment, labor, and management. The purpose of this study was to determine the root cause of the delay and propose improvements. The analysis was carried out using the Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) method to identify the root cause of the delay, while the improvement proposal was carried out using the Kaizen 5S method (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke). Based on the results of the analysis using the FTA method, the main factor causing the delay was the material/equipment factor with a probability value of 0.304. This factor includes three main indicators of the cause of the delay, namely the delay in the arrival of materials, the ordered materials are not appropriate, and the lack of adequate equipment. The application of the Kaizen 5S method aims to improve work efficiency through better material/equipment management and creating an organized work environment. Thus, it is hoped that the application of both methods can reduce delays and prevent similar problems in the future.
