Abstract

Several problems appear in the educational field, one of which is teachers’ personality. Teacher’s personal trait is considered to be essential because it can affect students’ motivation in learning. However, some teachers remain unaware of its significance. It was evident in the students’ statements stating that they often had to learn with moody teachers who, as a result, ruined their learning motivation. The present study aims to explore the students’ perspectives on the EFL teacher’s personalities that influence the students’ motivation. To achieve the objective, the study utilized case study design in which the data were collected through semi-structured interview conducted to six senior high school students. The data were then analyzed by following Miles and Huberman’s (1994) framework. The results showed that all respondents shared agreement on the teacher’s personalities that they prefered. They felt happy and motivated when they learned with humble, friendly, kind, caring, patient, and humorous teachers. The results of this study may help the EFL teachers consider their personality as one of the vital aspects that could affect the students’ learning motivation. EFL teachers should pay more attention to their attitudes towards the students. In addition, the results suggest that policy makers should formulate rules that encourage teachers to not only focus on their hard skills but also their soft skills such as good personalities.

Abstract

Warehouses play an important role in maintaining product quality until the product is delivered to consumers. The many important activities in the warehouse require companies to improve their performance to be effective and efficient in order to maintain trust. ABC Company is a private company engaged in civil construction, landfilling, cut and fill, heavy equipment rental, and spare part distributor. In warehousing activities, there are various activities that don’t have value added or waste. This study aims for identify waste and provide recommendations for improving warehousing activities. The implementation of Lean Warehousing is carried to identifying the warehousing flow process with Value Stream Mapping (VSM), then identifying 7 wastes that occur in the warehousing process using the Waste Assessment Model (WAM) method. The results of the study showed that the waste with the highest percentage level was waste inventory (I) waste overpurchase (O) waste defect (D). From the proposed improvements and Future stream mapping, it was found that the lead time was reduced to 544 minutes, which eliminated 200 minutes of non- value added activity. So that activity increased by 27% from the initial condition.

Abstract

The long travel motor on an overhead crane is a vital component that enables the crane’s horizontal movement along its track. This study aims to analyze the failure risks of the ABUS long travel motor at PT N using the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Fishbone Diagram methods. FMEA was utilized to identify critical components based on their Risk Priority Number (RPN), while the Fishbone Diagram analyzed the root causes of failure for components with the highest RPN.The results indicate that the Gear Pinion is the most critical component with an RPN value of 405, attributed to significant failure impacts, high failure frequency, and challenges in early detection. Major contributing factors include insufficient technical training, low-quality materials, inadequate lubrication, and environmental influences such as high temperatures and dust contamination. Preventive solutions include regular technical training, the use of high-quality materials, installation of automatic lubrication systems, implementation of preventive maintenance schedules, and enhanced monitoring systems. These measures are expected to reduce failures, improve operational reliability, and enhance production efficiency at PT N. Keywords : Fishbone Diagram, FMEA, Long Travel Motor.

Abstract

Strategic use of teacher’s language in the classroom has been acknowledged to play pivotal role in shaping the extent of students’ engagement. Despite extensive research on the subject, a limited understanding remains on the potential’s mismatch between teacher’s practice and students’ preference. This study examines how specific teacher’s speech acts, as a part of teacher’s language, influence Indonesian EFL students’ engagement and investigates which types of speech acts students perceive as most engaging. To achieve the objectives, the study collected the data through video-taped observations and a close-ended 20-item questionnaire administered to 47 junior high school students in Garut. The findings show that the teacher’s speech acts, particularly Directives, Assertives, and Expressives, exert substantial influence on the students’ behavioral, cognitive, and emotional engagement. Notably, despite the prominent role of those speech acts in fostering engagement during classroom interaction, students' self-reported preferences through questionnaires indicated that Expressives and Declarations were perceived as the most engaging. This discrepancy suggests that while teachers predominantly use instructional speech acts (e.g., Directives and Assertives), students exhibit a stronger affinity to Expressives and Declarations, which often incorporate elements of emotional connection, motivation, and humor. These findings reinforce the necessity for a balanced and dynamic pedagogical approach in EFL settings, by integrating various speech acts to optimize students’ engagement.

Abstract

This article discusses the extent to which the use of biometric smart card as a tool to exercise the identification has been increasingly utilized due to its advantages, such as ability to achieve a high level of accuracy, the system cannot be easily duplicated as well as high level of security, since it involves biological characteristics like fingerprints, iris and DNA. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the use of this technology has raised many concerns with regard to the need of privacy data protection. It is due to the fact that biometrics technology as a powerful identifier brings along personal information that can be traced from different sources to be linked together, and also the ability of third parties to access this data in identifiable form and link to other informations and used this information for secondary uses without the consent of data subject. Data privacy is considered as fundamental human rights and has been regulated in a number of international instruments as well as regional instruments and has been incorporated into more than 100 national laws. Countries have now recognized data privacy either as an explicit constitutional rights, or in the form of comprehensive data privacy law. This article will explore data privacy model regulation which is intended to regulate and protect data privacy. This regulatory model combining several approaches in managing data privacy, especially in using biometric smardcard. Firstly, through laws that enforces the principles and international standards. Secondly, through the market approach (market-based solution) which is derived through industry associations to help protect consumer data privacy by applying privacy policy in the form of a statement that the industry will protect consumers' privacy by implementing fair information principles. Third, through technological approach such as PET's (privacy enchasing technology), i.e the techniques for anonymous and pseudo-anonymous payment, communication, and web access. Fourthly, through corporate privacy rules.

Abstract

Participation in the classroom plays an important role because learning occurs through the interaction between the teacher and the students. However, many students do not participate in class, which can hinder effective communication and limit opportunities for collaborative learning. Then, one effective strategy to encourage participation is to pose questions to the students. This study aims to identify the types of questions most frequently used by the teacher and investigate the impact of these question types on fostering student participation in class. The data were collected through classroom observations and interviews consisting of a group of fourth-year students and one copywriting lecturer at an institution in the city of Garut. Observations were conducted just to determine what types of questions were frequently used by lecturers, followed by interviews to determine the impact of each type of question. The results of the observation showed that the most frequently used type of question was the closed type. Then from the interviews the researcher found that closed and convergent questions encouraged more participation because the questions could be answered briefly and more definitely. Recall questions and open questions reduced interest in participation because the questions require complex answers. Keywords: impact, interaction, participation, teacher questioning

Abstract

PT CDE is a strategic company owned by a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) specializing in the production of key equipment for Indonesia's defense system, particularly for the maritime sector. The House of Risk (HOR) model is an approach inspired by the FMEA (Failure Mode and Error Analysis) method. Risk assessment in this method is carried out using a metric called the Risk Priority Number (RPN), which consists of three factors: the probability of occurrence and the severity of the possible impact. The results show that there are 20 risk events and 41 risk agents that constitute supply chain risks, along with recommendations for mitigating priority risk agents.
