Abstract

This study examines commissive speech acts in President Prabowo Subianto's first speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in 2025 using a pragmatic approach. Commissive speech acts were chosen because the speech contains many statements that demonstrate political commitments, diplomatic promises, and Indonesia's strategic plans on global issues. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data consisting of utterances containing commissive elements in the speech. The analysis results show that the commissives that appear include forms of promises, willingness, commitments, and long-term plan statements. These findings indicate that the speech functions not only as a means of conveying information but also as a tool to build a diplomatic image and demonstrate Indonesia's position at the international level. Overall, commissive speech acts play an important role in reinforcing the political message and policy direction that Indonesia aims to assert in the global forum.

Abstract

This study examines how Indonesia’s Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu’ti, employs persuasive pragmatic strategies when conveying education policies related to addressing learning loss after the Covid-19 pandemic. Through discourse analysis of his statements in press conferences and seminars on the implementation of deep learning, this research traces the forms of speech acts such as directives, representatives, and implicatures used to build support and influence how the public understands the policy. The findings show that Abdul Mu’ti underscores the seriousness of the learning-loss problem by referring to concrete data, including the decline in students’ cognitive abilities and the results of the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). Presenting these data serves to strengthen his arguments and enhance their persuasive force. In addition, his critique of surface-level learning practices generates an implicature that a shift in instructional approaches is an urgent necessity. His emphasis on the central role of teachers and assurances that the existing curriculum will not be replaced also function as strategies to reduce potential public resistance. This study demonstrates that Abdul Mu’ti’s use of language in policy communication plays a crucial role in framing deep learning as a solution for restoring the quality of national education.

Abstract

Abstract

Bioremediation is an environmental restoration technique that uses microorganisms to decompose hazardous waste, including pharmaceutical industry waste which pollutes waters. This waste contains complex compounds such as antibiotics and other chemicals that are difficult to decompose using conventional methods, and can disrupt water ecosystems. This article evaluates and discusses the effectiveness of bacteria in decomposing pharmaceutical industry waste and improving water quality.  The steps of bioremediation consisted of (1) isolation and selection of bacteria from polluted environments to obtain superior strains such as Pseudomonas sp., Bacillus sp., and Paraburkholderia xenovorans; (2) test the degradation ability of pharmaceutical compounds in the laboratory by adding bacteria to liquid media containing test compounds such as antibiotics and antiepileptics; (3) testing environmental conditions (pH, temperature, and oxygen availability) to find optimal conditions; and (4) application of bioremediation on a field scale by monitoring water quality based on chemical parameters (COD, BOD, and concentrations of pharmaceutical compounds) as well as biological parameters. Pseudomonas sp. degraded up to 80% of antibiotics within 7 days, while Bacillus sp. effectively reduces antiepileptic drug concentrations by up to 75% in 10 days. The combination of several bacterial species increases the effectiveness of degradation. Microbiological testing showed an increase in bacterial population diversity and density at treated sites, indicating restoration of the aquatic ecosystem.  It can be concluded that the strategic roele of bacteria in the bioremediation of pharmaceutical industrial waste in waters has proven to be effective and can be a sustainable solution for maintaining environmental quality. Implementation of this method requires optimal environmental conditions so that the degradation process takes place optimally and negative impacts on the ecosystem can be minimized.   Keywords: Bioremediation, Bacteria, Industrial Waste, Aquatic

Abstract

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a pathogenic bacterium that has been resistant to various types of antibiotics, so it is not easy to be treated with antibiotics and needs other solutions. Javanese citronella oil distilled from the Cymbopogon nardus plant is proven to function as an antibacterial agent (bacteriostatic and bactericidal), fungicide and repellent. This study aimed to prove that there is a positive correlation between bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects with antibiofilm and anticolony spreading from Javanese citronella oil on MRSA. The intended antibiofilm is a barrier to biofilm formation and eradication. Bacteriostatic and antibiofilm effects were tested using microtiter plates assay, bactericidal effect test with subculture into the media and anticolony spreading effect test with spot inoculation in Tryptic Soy Broth media supplemented with 0.24% agar. The bacteriostatic effect test data were analyzed using paired t-test, bactericidal effect using the Friedman test, antibiofilm effect test using Kruskall-Wallis and the results of all the tests correlated using Pearson and Spearman correlation. The statistical significance used was p<0.05. The results showed that Javanese citronella oil had a bacteriostatic concentration of 0.02% (v/v) and bactericidal concentration of 0.78% (v/v). The Pearson correlation test showed that there was a negative correlation between bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects on biofilm formation with r = -0.956 (p = 0.000), but the correlation was positive for biofilm eradication with r = 0.918 (p = 0.000) and anticolony spreading with r = 1.000 (p = 0.000).
