Abstract

The liquid waste of palm oil containing high nutrients and can be used as a source of nutrients for growth microalgae such as Chlorella sp. A research aims to understand the effects of palm oil liquid waste addition in the media toward the growth of Chlorella sp. has been conducted from May – July 2016. The culture was conducted for 20 days. There were 4 treatment applied, namely P0 (0% waste), P1 (20% waste), P2 (25% waste) and P3 (30% waste). Parameters measured were the abundance and biomass of Chlorella sp., temperature, pH, nitrate, and phosphate. Result shown that the best growth of Chlorella sp. was in the P1, the abundance was 61.45 × 105 cells/ml and the biomass was 0.36 g/l. During the research, the nutrient available in the media decreased, from 1.13 to 0.09 mg/l (nitrate) and from 3.54 to 0.48 mg/l (phosphate). This fact indicates that the nutrient have been used for growing the microalgae. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the palm oil liquid waste can be used as a source of nutrients for Chlorella sp.Key words : Palm oilliquid waste, nutrients, microalgae, Chlorella sp.

Abstract

The waste water originated from rubber factory contain high concentrationof organic matter. Direct disposal of these waste to waters may negative impactsto aquatic organisms. To reduce the risk, the waste should be treatment. Theseresearch conducted from Desember 2013 – February 2014. The study aims tounderstand the effectiveness of biofilter and aquatic plants reactors to reduceorganic pollutants in the waste water originated from the rubber factory and thenused these water as fish life media. The water quality measured were BOD5 andCOD, beside it measured survival rate of fishes in the aquarium. Sampling forwater quality and fish were conducted 3 times, once/ two weeks. The resultsshown effectiveness BOD5 range 82,6% – 87,8% and COD range 80,8% – 84,4%.But in the control (without biofilter and aquatic plants shown low effectiveness ofBOD5 and COD were 50,1 – 55,1% and 38,2 – 44,5% respectively. Survival rateof Pangasius hypopthalmus (80%), Oreochromis niloticus (76,67%), andCyprinus carpio (70%) and in the control, survival rate of Pangasiushypopthalmus (56,67%), Oreochromis niloticus (36,67%), and Cyprinus carpio(23,33%). Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the biofilter andaquatic plant was effective to reduce BOD and COD content in the rubber factorywaste water.Keywords: Rubber waste water, Biofilter, Aquatic plants

Abstract

The peat water has low pH and it can be improved by adding lime and alum. The use of lime, however, produced relatively large amount of sediment. To understand the effectiveness of combined lime and alum in osmofilter paper package to increase the pH and reduce the sediment, a study has been conducted on January-April 2016.Combination of 1.7 g lime and 1.45 g alum were wrapped using osmofilter paper and were immersed in 8 L of different pH (2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) peat water. After being kept for 45 minutes, the water quality was checked. Result shown that the package of lime and alum was effective to improve the pH and reduced the sediment. In all treatments the pH increase up to 9, while the sediment decrease, from 38.34 to 34.34. The treated water was use to rear Cyprinus carpio and Oreochromis niloticus seedlings. By the 4th day the survival rate of both fish species was 90 %. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the use of combined lime, alum and osmofilter paper is effective to improve the quality of peat water.Keyword : Peat Water, Osmofilter paper, Alum, Lime

Abstract

The effectiveness of waste water treatment plant PT. Toba Pulp Lestari, Tbk in reducing organic pollutant (BOD, COD) content in liquid waste is relatively low as the number of decomposer bacteria is low. To increase the effectiveness of waste water treatment plant in reducing organic pollutant, aerobic bacteria addition is needed. To understand the effectiveness of the aerobic bacteria in reducing organic pollutant, a study has been conducted in December 2015. The aerobic bacteria was taken from the alkali sewer waste and it is used to reduce the organic pollutant in the waste was taken from deep tank aeration system. There were control (0L), 0.25L (P1), 0.5L (P2) and 0.75L (P3) of liquid waste that content of aerobic bacteria in 3L waste was taken from deep tank aeration system. The best result were obtained in P3, by the end of experiment, there was 83 mg/L of BOD and 86 mg/L of COD. All of the treated waste were then used to rear Cyprinus carpio and Oreochromis niloticus fingerlings for two days. Survival rate of the fish were 100%. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that all of treated waste can be used for rearing the fish.Key Words: Aerobic bacteria, BOD, COD, pulp industrial waste liquid

Abstract

AbstractPalm oil waste can have a negative impact on the environment and can stimulate gene mutations in certain bacteria. The bacteria can produce bio surfactants to reduce the level of oil pollution. This study aims to identify bacteria capable of producing bio surfactants from the anaerobic pond of the palm oil industry WWTP PT. Sawit Asahan Indah, Ujung Batu, Rokan Hulu Regency. The study was conducted from April to May 2019. Samples were diluted and enriched using BHI (Brain Heart Infusion) media for 24 hours. Furthermore, samples were identified in morphological, biochemical and RNA (18SR) methods. Based on the results of the study, three types of bacteria were obtained, namely Proteus Mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris and E. coli. The Proteus Mirabilis emulsification index is 46.6%, and Proteus vulgaris is 45%. This shows that all bacteria found are able / potentially produce bio surfactants. Keywords:palm oil pollution, bio surfactant, Proteus vulgaris, Proteus mirabilis, emulsification index, RNA (18SR) method, Biodegradation.

Abstract

AbstractThis study discusses the content of heavy metals Fe suspended loads on the Sail River, Pekanbaru City. The study aimed to determine the content of heavy metals Fe and suspended solids in the waters of the Sail River. This research was conducted in February - March 2019. Suspended solid samples were taken from 3 stationsof the Sail River. Samples were taken at each station according to the depth, namely the sampling point on the surface of the water, the sampling point in the middle of the water, and the sampling point at the bottom of the water. Sampling time is done every 3 times in 1 month. The results were obtained, the average suspended solids at Station Iwere 149 mg/l, Station IIwas 237 mg/l, and the sampling point was 114 mg/l. The average content of heavy metals Fe in suspended solids at station Iwaters are Fe 2.95 mg/l and 0.152 mg/l, station II namely Fe 2.786 mg/l and 0.125 mg/l, and station IIInamely Fe, which is 2.86 mg/l and 0.147 mg/l. Abstract

This study was conducted in September-December 2013 in the factory know which is located on Jl. Build Kubang Kingdom Village Tarai Mining District of Kampar district in Riau Province. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a decrease in TSS and ammonia wastewater know. The decrease in the concentration of TSS and ammonia made with plastic bottles of media biofilter system anaerobic-aerobic process plastic scrap plastic pieces containing medium and without (controls). Then proceed with the process of phytoremediation by water hyacinth and without media. The combined performance of the biofilter and phytoremediation of media is very effective to reduce the concentration of TSS and ammonia. This is evident from a decrease in the effectiveness of the TSS concentration during the observations ranged from 66.38 to 90.82% with an average concentration at the inlet of 411.4 mg / l to 57.2 mg / l. While the effectiveness of the reduction in ammonia concentrations ranged from 54.74 to 92.56% with an average concentration at the inlet of 13.16 mg / l to 4.28 mg / l. For other parameters also are in accordance with the quality standards that have been established, such as pH 7, temperature 28 0C, and DO of 3.76 mg / l. Further tests of the survival of fish and tilapia on the marsh Sepat wastewater that has been treated with a biofilter media and plastic bottles of water hyacinth respectively reached 87% and 70% except 47% of fish monitored.Keywords: Biofilter, phytoremediation, wastewater

Abstract

Rantau Baru Village is one village in the Pengkalan Kerinci sub-district, Pelalawan Regency. The village of Rantau Baru is on the coast of the Kampar River, surrounded by swamp and peat forest areas, so the majority of the population work as traditional fishermen. The income level of traditional fishing communities fluctuates greatly depending on the fishing season. Conditions The difference in the fishing season will affect the level of welfare. One effort that can be done provides other knowledge supplies to the community to use it as a side livelihood. One form of skill that may be given is the cultivation of natural eels because it is in line with the profession of the people of Rantau Baru Village as traditional fishermen. This training was attended by people from various occupational backgrounds, such as fishermen, laborers, entrepreneurs, temporary employees, and farmers. However, the participants who participated in the training were dominated by work as fishermen. The material provided in this training is the biology and behavior of eels by 28%, cultivation techniques by 27%, feeding techniques to eels by 27%, and post-harvest and marketing by 18%. After the training activities were given, there was an increase in participants' knowledge, excellent (69%) and sufficient (16%). The results indicate the success of participants in absorbing the material provided by the resource persons. The success in this training was also indicated by the evaluation results of 69.23% of participants stating that they understood well and 30.77% of participants stated that they understood. The success of delivering the material cannot be separated from the presentation of exciting material from the resource persons. The questionnaire filled out by the participants stated that 69.23% of participants stated that the delivery of the material was engaging, and 30.77% of the total participants stated that the delivery of the material was exciting. This eel cultivation training was also very beneficial for the participants, namely 84.62% of the total participants stated this training was beneficial. While 15.38% said, this training was valuable.

Abstract

Hutan mangrove merupakan salah satu ekosistem pesisir yang berperan penting dalam mendukung kehidupan biota laut. Keberadaan hutan mangrove di Kabupaten Kepulauan Meranti saat ini terus mengalami degradasi yang berimplikasi terhadap menurunnya fungsi ekologis, sosial dan ekonomi masyarakat lokal. Upaya meminimalisir kerusakan hutan mangrove terus dilakukan oleh pemerintah daerah dan masyarakat lokal hingga saat ini. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan melalui budidaya kepiting bakau dengan sistem sylvofishery. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen dan wawancara yang dilakukan di Kelurahan Teluk Belitung dan Desa Bandul Kabupaten Meranti. Data dan informasi dihimpun dari penelusuran, dan penelahaan data dan informasi hasil penelitian serta laporan kegiatan yang terkait dengan budidaya kepiting bakau dengan sistem silvofishery. Hasil kajian menunjukkan potensi pengembangan budidaya laut di Kabupaten Kepulauan Meranti tersebar di beberapa pulau seperti Pulau Padang, Tebing Tinggi dan Pulau Rangsang dengan luas lahan sebesar 438 ha. Luasnya lokasi budidaya didukung pula dengan kualitas perairan yang cukup bagus dan cocok untuk dikembangkan budidaya kepiting dengan sistem sylvofishery. Ujicoba penerapan sylvofishery kepiting bakau model kurungan tancap diperoleh tingkat survival rate mencapai 70 % dan pertumbuhan rata-rata berkisar 100 – 140 g per bulan. Pemeliharaan kepiting bakau dengan sistem sylvofishery selama 3 bulan dapat memberikan keuntungan dan tambahan penghasilan per bulan sebesar Rp. 1.070.150. Dalam satu siklus pembesaran jika kondisi normal dapat mengembalikan investasinya sehingga sylvofishery kepiting bakau layak dijadi usaha alternatif bagi masyarakat pesisir.Mangrove forest is one of the coastal ecosystems were plays a role in supporting marine life. Existence of mangrove forests in the Meranti Kepulauan district is experiencing degradation which has implications for the decline to ecological, social and economic functions of the local community. The efforts for minimize damage of mangrove forests have been carried out by local governments and local communities. One of the effort could be done through the cultivation of mud crabs with sylvofishery system. Experiment method was applied and interview was done in Teluk Belitung and Bandul villages, Meranti Regency. Data and information were collected and had been analyzed and activities reported that related to mud crab culture using the silvofishery system. The resut of the study showed that potential development of marine culture in the Kepulauan Meranti district is spread across several islands such as Padang Island, Tebing Tinggi and Pulau Rangsang with an area of 438 ha. The extent of the aquaculture site is also supported by good waters quality and suitable for developing mud crab culture with the sylvofishery system. The trial application of the mud crab silvofishery model of fixed confinement obtained a survival rate of up to 70% and an average growth of around 100-140 g per month. Maintenance of mangrove crabs with the sylvofishery system for 3 months can provide benefits and additional income per month of IDR. 1,070,150. In one cycle of enlargement if normal conditions, it’s can return the investment so the mangrove crab sylvofishery deserves to be an alternative effort for coastal communities.

Abstract

Kampung Baru is one of the villages in Pekanbaru city that has the potential to develop large marine tourism. Its strategic location on the coast of Siak River and has a cultural reserve "RumahBatin" makes Kampung Baru as one of the new destinations of future historical tourism. The existence of Kampung Baru as a tourist destination is still not well exposed so there needs to be a touch of Science and improvement to accelerate its development. The purpose of this activity is to accelerate the development of marine tourism in Kampung Baru Village, Pekanbaru City. The method used is a survey method to identify activities and counseling methods to convey Science to the community. The stages of the implementation of the activity are divided into three stages of preparation, implementation and evaluation. The results of a quick survey conducted, to accelerate the development of marine tourism activities in Kampung Baru through the socialization of halal certificates, making and dividing trash cans, making and enforcing plank boards, planting trees and vegetable seedlings and cleaning inner houses. The implementation of the activity is doing well and on target this can be seen from the community and village officials in supporting this activity. With the integrated KUKERTA (Community Service), the neglected tourism potential of Kampung Baru can be reappointed as a marine tourism. This leads to the fact that the touch of Science through integrated KUKERTA (Community Service) is able to accelerate the development of marine tourism in Kampung Baru.
