Abstract

This study is aimed to investigate the utilization of the "Dancing to Debate" method in speaking class from the viewpoint of students. A total of 46 students from the English Education Department at a state university in North Sumatera Province, Indonesia, participated in filling out a questionnaire consisting of 10 Likert scale questions (1 to 5), as well as semi-structured interviews with the students. The qualitative data were collected through a qualitative case study approach to examine a phenomenon within its real-life context. The results show that a significant percentage of students felt that this method helped them feel more confident in speaking English (34.78% strongly agreed, 32.61% agreed). Most students also found the method to be effective in improving their speaking skills (32.61% strong agreed, 28.26% agreed) and making speaking practice more enjoyable (36.96% strongly agree, 45.65% agreed). The positive feedback from students suggests that the strategy was successful in achieving its intended goals and was valued for its positive impact on the learning experience. Overall, the findings of this study align with the importance of making English learning activities enjoyable, fun, and stimulating for children.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in enhancing digital content creation within project-based learning (PBL). Conducted at the Department of English Language and Literature, specifically the English Education Study Program, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Medan, the research focuses on students enrolled in the Digital Education Content Creator subject. The objective of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing the quality of educational video content compared to conventional methods within a project-based learning framework. The research used a randomized sampling method, involving 80 students divided into two groups: an experimental group of 40 students using AI tools and a control group of 40 students relying on traditional approaches. Both groups created videos assessed based on six key criteria: content quality and relevance, clarity and structure, engagement, technical quality, duration and tempo, and accessibility and usability. The results show that the experimental group achieved significantly higher post-test scores, with an average of 3.8 compared to 2.64 in the control group. Hypothesis testing also supports these findings, with a t-test result exceeding the critical value. The findings confirm that AI tools significantly improve content quality, enabling students to produce more relevant, accessible, and technically refined digital content within a PBL framework. Future research should address AI's long-term effectiveness in different subject areas, accessibility challenges, and ethical concerns in education.

Abstract

Infusing outcome-based components such as advanced communication, productivity and accountability, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and flexibility and adaptability are deemed critical in a textbook. Conversely, the evidence revealed shortcomings in certain aspects of textbooks, as exemplified by the "Bahasa Inggris Kelas XII" textbook, which was deficient in advanced teamwork and communication skills. This research endeavor seeks to assess how the textbook incorporates outcome-based education. Utilizing data on the text unit order, the current study employed a descriptive qualitative research framework and acquired data through a Likert scale. The findings disclose that various aspects of outcome-based education are thoroughly addressed in this textbook. Nonetheless, the collaborative component and the intricate communication aspect are conspicuously absent as denoted in chapter 3 and chapter 4. A mere forty-seven percent of the content in the textbook "Bahasa Inggris Grade XII" has been assessed and meets the criteria of outcome-based education. This level of attainment, which falls below expectations, indicates a lack of complete adherence to the principles of outcomes-based education within the English textbook. As this ongoing research carries significant implications for those involved in developing and writing curricula. It is recommended that the textbook aligns with Spady's concept of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), addressing gaps such as the lack of emphasis on teamwork and complex communication aspects. To enhance the achievement of educational objectives, authors are advised to pinpoint areas for enhancement through collaboration with educators, students, and curriculum experts.
