Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness and contribution of motor vehicle fuel taxes to Regional Original Revenue managed by the BPPRD of North Sumatra Province in 2017 to 2021, to determine the causes of not achieving the motor vehicle fuel tax target and the efforts that must be made to optimize PBBKB. This study uses a qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The data used by researchers are quantitative and qualitative data. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews and documentation. The results showed that the percentage of the effectiveness of the motor vehicle fuel tax in 2017-2020 fluctuated and in 2020 the realization did not reach the target with effective criteria. As for the contribution to Regional Original Revenue, in 2017-2021 it fluctuated and the contribution criteria were declared to be less contributing every year. The factor causing the PBBKB target has not been achieved, namely the 2020 APBD changes which increased to Rp.882,786,893,431 with the realization of Rp.812,843,402,651 or 92.08%. Efforts must be made to optimize PBBKB, namely issuing Governor Regulation No. 1 of 2021 contains tariff increases and reconciliation, especially with Pertamina

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the preferences of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU) regarding entrepreneurial interest. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 61 active members of HIPMI UINSU and interviews with selected participants. A total of 30 samples were analyzed using SPSS Version 23 with path analysis. The findings reveal that understanding has no significant effect on entrepreneurial interest, as indicated by a t-value of 0.604 (p = 0.551). Similarly, religiosity does not significantly influence entrepreneurial interest, with a t-value of 0.239 (p = 0.813). In contrast, motivation positively and significantly impacts entrepreneurial interest, as shown by a t-value of 3.322 (p = 0.003). The combined analysis through ANOVA indicates that understanding, religiosity, and motivation collectively have a positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial interest. These results align with the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), which highlights the role of positive attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control in shaping entrepreneurial intentions. This study underscores motivation as a key driver of entrepreneurial interest among HIPMI UINSU members.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of understanding, religiosity, and culture on frugal living behavior among Generation Z in North Sumatra. The study addresses the increasing relevance of frugal living amid rising living costs, digital consumerism, and economic uncertainty. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of cognitive, religious, and socio-cultural dimensions to explain frugal living behavior within the context of Generation Z in North Sumatra. A quantitative approach with a causal associative design was employed. Data were collected from 100 respondents using purposive sampling and analyzed through multiple linear regression. The findings indicate that understanding, religiosity, and culture positively and significantly affect frugal living behavior, both partially and simultaneously. Culture was identified as the most dominant factor influencing frugal living practices. The model explains 65.5% of the variation in frugal living behavior. These findings imply that promoting sustainable financial behavior among Generation Z requires not only improving financial understanding but also strengthening religious values and cultural norms that encourage simplicity, self-control, and responsible consumption. This study contributes to the literature on behavioral economics and Islamic economics related to sustainable consumption behavior among young generations.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of promotional costs, financing amounts, and third-party funds (DPK) on the market share of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI). The study uses a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression methods. The data used are secondary data in the form of BSI's quarterly and annual financial reports obtained from official publications of Bank Syariah Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority (OJK). Data processing and analysis were carried out using IBM SPSS version 25 through classical assumption tests, regression tests, and partial and simultaneous hypothesis tests. The results show that promotional costs have a negative and significant effect on market share, indicating that the increase in the promotional budget has not been followed by optimal marketing strategy effectiveness. The amount of financing has a positive and significant effect on market share, so that financing is the main factor in expanding BSI's market share. Meanwhile, third-party funds (DPK) have a negative and insignificant effect on market share, indicating that the increase in DPK plays a more important role in maintaining liquidity than market expansion. Simultaneously, all three variables have a significant effect on market share with a coefficient of determination of 39.8%. These findings provide important implications for BSI management in formulating promotional strategies and financing optimization to strengthen the market position of Islamic banking.

Abstract

The growth of Islamic banking in Indonesia continues to expand alongside increasing public interest in a banking system that adheres to sharia principles, especially one that is free from usury (riba). Among its fund-collection instruments is the mudharabah deposit, namely a placement of funds based on a mudharabah contract that operates through a profit-sharing mechanism. This study examines the macroeconomic determinants of Islamic banking performance by analyzing the effects of the central bank interest rate (BI Rate) and the inflation rate on the growth of mudharabah (profit-sharing) savings deposits at Bank Sumut Syariah Medan. This research examines the influence of the interest rate and inflation on the volume of mudharabah deposits at Bank Sumut Syariah. The study applies an associative quantitative approach utilizing monthly secondary data covering the 2020–2024 period, sourced from the financial statements of Bank Sumut Syariah, Bank Indonesia, and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The data were processed through multiple linear regression with the aid of SPSS 22. The findings reveal that, simultaneously, the interest rate and inflation exert a significant effect on mudharabah deposits. On a partial basis, the interest rate demonstrates a significant positive effect, while inflation shows no significant effect. These results suggest that depositors' choices to allocate their funds into mudharabah deposits remain driven by a profit-oriented motive, which aligns with the displaced commercial risk encountered by Islamic banks operating within a dual banking system. This study implies that Islamic banks must dynamically adjust their profit-sharing ratios (nisbah) to remain competitive against conventional interest rate shifts, as regional depositors act as rational economic agents sensitive to inflation and market alternatives. Furthermore, monetary authorities must consider these dual-banking spillover effects to safeguard Islamic liquidity stability.

Abstract

Cooperative-based community empowerment depends not only on financial capital but also on the quality of social relations embedded in institutional practices. This study examines the role of Islamic Social Capital in community empowerment at the Makmur Mandiri Savings and Loan Cooperative, Padangsidimpuan City. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. Findings reveal that the cooperative has operated stably and delivered tangible economic benefits through flexible capital access. Three core Islamic values underpin its social fabric: amanah (trustworthiness), reflected in transparent and accountable management; ukhuwah (brotherhood), expressed through sustained social bonds between managers and members; and ta‘awun (mutual assistance), manifested in economic and social support during hardship. Theoretically, this study extends Islamic Social Capital theory by demonstrating its operational mechanisms within a cooperative institution. Practically, it provides a replicable model for embedding Islamic values into cooperative governance to enhance sustainable member empowerment. These findings contribute to the limited literature on Islamic social capital in savings and loan cooperatives, particularly in the local context of North Sumatra.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and identify the obstacles encountered in its application to enhance customer loyalty at Bank Sumut KCP Syariah HM Yamin Medan. The study was motivated by the increasing importance of customer relationship strategies in the Islamic banking industry and the limited qualitative evidence regarding CRM implementation in regional Islamic banking institutions. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Eight informants were purposively selected, consisting of three employees and five customers. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking. The findings reveal that CRM implementation has been carried out through three main dimensions, namely people, process, and technology. The people dimension is reflected in responsive, friendly, and empathetic services provided by employees. The process dimension is implemented through customer identification, differentiation, interaction, and service customization activities. The technology dimension is supported by the utilization of mobile banking, internet banking, QRIS, and auto-debit facilities to improve service accessibility and efficiency. However, CRM implementation remains constrained by the absence of an integrated CRM system and limitations in human resources for conducting systematic customer relationship activities. The study concludes that effective integration of people, process, and technology contributes to strengthening customer relationships and enhancing customer loyalty. These findings provide practical insights for Islamic banking institutions seeking to improve customer relationship strategies and maintain sustainable customer loyalty in an increasingly competitive banking environment.

Abstract

The growth of Islamic banking in Indonesia has continued to show a positive trend, particularly in financing distribution and asset expansion. However, the utilization of Islamic banking financing by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) remains relatively limited despite the sector’s substantial contribution to national economic development. This condition indicates that financing decisions are influenced not only by the availability of financial services but also by behavioral and cognitive factors. This study aims to examine the influence of Islamic financial literacy and risk awareness on MSMEs’ decisions in choosing Islamic banking financing in Kualuh Ledong District. The study employed a quantitative approach using an associative research design. Primary data were collected through questionnaires administered to 50 MSME owners selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, supported by validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, coefficient of determination analysis, and hypothesis testing through t-tests and F-tests. The findings reveal that Islamic financial literacy has a positive but insignificant effect on MSMEs’ decisions in selecting Islamic banking financing. In contrast, risk awareness has a positive and statistically significant effect on financing decisions. Simultaneously, Islamic financial literacy and risk awareness significantly influence MSMEs’ financing decisions, with a coefficient of determination of 68.1%, indicating that both variables explain a substantial proportion of decision-making behavior. The results suggest that risk considerations play a more dominant role than financial literacy in shaping financing choices among MSMEs. This study contributes to the Islamic finance literature by demonstrating that financing decisions are better explained through the integration of cognitive and risk-perception factors. The findings also provide practical implications for Islamic banking institutions to strengthen risk-management education alongside efforts to improve Islamic financial literacy among MSME actors.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of insurance agents in increasing microinsurance penetration at PT. Asuransi BRI Life Medan, within the context of the VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) era. Although microinsurance, introduced in Indonesia since 2013, has great potential to provide financial protection for low-income communities, public understanding and awareness of the importance of insurance remain relatively low. This condition creates challenges for insurance companies in expanding the reach of microinsurance products. Insurance agents play a crucial role as intermediaries between companies and customers, with responsibilities that include providing education, building trust, and attracting potential customers to microinsurance products. This study employs a qualitative method with a case study approach, conducted through in-depth interviews with insurance agents, marketing managers, and customers of PT. Asuransi BRI Life Medan. The findings reveal that insurance agents utilize various communication channels, both digital and conventional, to introduce and promote microinsurance products to the public. However, agents still face challenges in improving financial literacy and building trust in the benefits of insurance products. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening agents’ capacity and developing innovative communication strategies that are adaptable to the dynamics of the VUCA era, thereby enhancing microinsurance penetration in Indonesia.
