Abstract

The background of this research is the occurrence of the advertisements for health care drugs on Indonesian televisisons which contain many types of directive speech acts which have the intention to influence the community, in this case the speech partner by inviting, ordering, suggesting, and so on including the functions of inviting, ordering, asking, suggesting, challenging. This aims of this study are: (first) to find and describe the category of directive speech verbs in advertisements for health-care drugs on Indonesion television, (second) to find and describe the function of directive speech in advertisements of health-care drugs on Indonesian television, (third) to find and describe the possible effects of directiv speech for healthcare drugadvertisements on Indonesion television. The method used in this research is a descriptive method with qualitative research approach. The data of this research are the fragments of speech in advertisements for health-care drugs through Indonesian television which are supposed to be directive speech act. The data source of this research is the speech on advertisemens for health care drugs on Indonesian televisions. The results of this research are: First, three forms of directive speech verb categories used by speakers and speech partners are found - “to recomend”, “to give orders”, and “to advise”. Second, three functions of directive speech fragments on health-care drug advertisements are found on Indonesian television - suggesting, ordering and inviting. Third, two possible effects of directive speech are found, possitive effect – to make people think and to make people do something, and negative effect – the effect of making people be affraid and the effect of deceiving.

Abstract

One of the most interesting youtube contents in Indonesia goes to Deddy Corbuzier’s youtube podcast. It is caused by the various guests who are invited and the use of several languages in the podcast when they are doing interaction each other. As a youtuber who masters more than two languages, Deddy Corbuzier has to take an action of language choice in order to the interaction in the podcast flows smoothly. The aim of this research is to describe the form of language choice on Deddy Corbuzier’s youtube podcast. The data collection is done using observation method with observe-involve-free-statement and taking notes techniques. After the data is collected then they are analyzed using determining elements choice technique. Hereinafter, the data is presented using informal method or using words. The results of this research are 1) the form of singular variety language in using formal and informal Indonesian language, 2) the form of code-switching from Indonesian language to foreign language and vice versa, 3) the form of code mixing in words, phrases, idioms, and clauses insertion from foreign language to Indonesian language.

Abstract

The language in the mass media has different backgrounds and ideologies to lead public opinion in framing the news discourse. Language in this context has been formed by an ideology background that carries a certain charge of power in reporting the 212-movement action reunion. This lead researcher interested to examine the representation of the 212-reunion news in the Republika, Jawa Pos, Rakyat Merdeka, and Kompas. The purpose of this study is to describe the textual dimensions, interpret discursive practices, and explain the sociocultural dimensions of reporting on the Harian Republika, Jawa Pos, Rakyat Merdeka, and Kompas in the construction of 212 reunion representations. This research used descriptive qualitative and Faircloguh Discourse Analysis theoretical approach in identifying and analyzing the data. Based on data analysis, the following results were obtained. First, the 212-action reunion is represented positively and negatively. The procedure of this representation can be seen from the vocabulary, grammatical, and textual structures used by the Harian Republika, Jawa Pos, Rakyat Merdeka, and Kompas. Second, the positive and negative representations are determined by the discourse practices of the four-mass media, such as supporting, rejecting, or leading public opinion as desired by the mass media. Third, the socio-culture of media coverage of the 212-action reunion is influenced by media institutions, the media economy, political institutions, and sociocultural processes that develop in society.

Abstract

Politeness in speaking the presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2019 presidential and vice-presidential election debates is an interesting phenomenon to be studied from a pragmatic perspective because social and verbal interactions will appear naturally. The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe the form of violations of the politeness principle according to Leech (2014) committed by presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the presidential and vice-presidential election debates of the Republic of Indonesia in 2019. This study uses a pragmatic approach, namely using the politeness theory proposed by Leech (2014). Data collection techniques using listening and note-taking techniques. The data analysis technique was carried out using normative techniques. The results of this study were found to be violations of Leech's five principles of politeness, namely (1) the thimble of feeling, (2) the thimble of approval, (3) the thimble of humility, (4) the thimble of agreement, and (5) the thimble of opinion.

Abstract

Language has an important role in communication and interaction between humans in everyday life. Speak politely to create effective communication. This study aims to describe the politeness of language in the novel "Ketika Cahaya Rembulan Mengecup Lautan" by Anisha Dayu on the wattpad application. This study examines the observance of language politeness. Politeness theory in this study uses ten politeness thimbles based on Leech's theory of politeness. This research approach uses a theoretical approach and a qualitative descriptive methodological approach. The data of this research are fragments of speech in the novel. The method used in this study is the equivalent and normative methods. with basic listening techniques and advanced techniques, namely note-taking techniques. The results of the study, language is an important role in everyday life. There is politeness in it. In this study, nine politeness thimbles were found which allegedly adhered to the principles of politeness in language. Research related to language politeness has been carried out by several researchers, one of which is Cahyani's research in 2019. This research examines language politeness compliance, language politeness violations and factors that influence the occurrence of language politeness in students' speech acts in interacting at Tidar University. The benefits of this research are in linguistic learning, especially pragmatics related to language, then for teachers and the public and other researchers. For universities, this research can be a source of learning for Indonesian language learning in the school environment.

Abstract

Instagram video content that contains speech is included in a new pattern of social media interaction. As a part of the pattern of social interaction, speech in Instagram video content needs to be analyzed for its implications. The purpose of this study was to find out the implicatures in Indonesian-language content made by foreign speakers on social media of Instragram. The content of Indonesian speech made by foreign speakers is quite varied, such as comedy content, culinary arts, family life, and other social activities. Some of the social media contents of foreign speakers that currently available has a tendency to not consider the moral burden of using Indonesian speech. This tendency appears as an implicature concept that needs to be investigated at the pragmatic level of Indonesian speech. This study used two approaches, those were a theoretical approach and a methodological approach. The theoretical approach chosen was a pragmatic theory approach to analyze speech implicatures using Grice's theory. The methodological approach used in this research was a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. The results of this study were implicatures of five utterances from four foreign speakers who had different characteristics of the Instagram video content they made. The implicatures contained in the five utterances were 3 in the conventional implicature category, 2 in the unconventional implicature category, and 1 in the presuppositional implicature category.

Abstract

Culture, environment, and language come together to form a collaboration in various fields of life, including the naming of a region. The place naming system is a rule for giving names to an area at a certain time, this is also called toponymy. One of them is the naming of the Kecobong District which is in Purbalingga Regency, Central Java. The name of the hamlet in Kejobong District has a complex meaning including its origin, conditions in the field, religion, and socio-cultural development. Toponymy is almost always associated with the identity of the region, so there is a story or stories that accompany it. The purpose of this research is to describe the formation process, cultural meaning, and categorization of hamlet names in Kejobong District, Purbalingga Regency. The researcher used an ethnoliguistic theoretical and qualitative descriptive methodological approach. Data collection was carried out using listening and speaking techniques. The validity of the research data was obtained using the persistence of observation and triangulation techniques. The data obtained were then analyzed using the distribution and matching methods. The results of the research analysis are (1) the process of forming hamlet names in Kejobong District, Purbalingga Regency morphologically consists of affixation and composition, (2) hamlet names in Kejobong District, Purbalingga Regency which have cultural meaning are Kedarpan Hamlet, Paduraksa Hamlet, Bendingan Hamlet, Silumbung Hamlet, Pengempon Hamlet, Karangsari Hamlet, Makamdawa Hamlet, Kalgung Hamlet, and Totogan Hamlet, and (3) categorization of hamlet names in Kejobong District.

Abstract

Melalui film “Merindu Cahaya De Amstel “ Karya Arumi E interaksi komunikasi dapat terjadi diwujudkan dalam tindak tutur yang meliputi percakapan-percakapan yang diujarkan oleh para pemain film. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu Mendeskripsikan bentuk tindak tutur direktif yang terdapat dalam “Merindu Cahaya De Amstel” Karya Arumi E dan Mendeskripsikan fungsi tindak tutur direktif yang terdapat dalam “Merindu Cahaya De Amstel” Karya Arumi E. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis dengan pendekatan pragmatik. Subjek penelitian ini adalah Film “Merindu Cahaya De Amstel” Karya Arumi E. Fokus kajian penelitian ini adalah tindak tutur direktif. Hasil penelitian terdapat 6 bentuk tindak tutur direktif pada film “Merindu Cahaya De Amstel” karya Arumi E, yaitu perintah berjumlah 21 data tuturan, permintaan berjumlah 16 data tuturan, ajakan berjumlah 14 data tuturan, nasihat berjumlah 13 data tuturan, kritikan berjumlah 6 data, dan larangan berjumlah 9 data tuturan. Fungsi tindak tutur direktif dalam film “Merindu Cahaya De Amstel” karya Arumi E yaitu; (a) Perintah memiliki fungsi menyuruh berjumlah 9 data, fungsi memerintah berjumlah 7 data, fungsi mengharuskan berjumlah 1 data, fungsi memaksa berjumlah 1 data, dan fungsi menyilahkan berjumlah 3 data. (b) Permintaan memiliki fungsi meminta berjumlah 5 data, fungsi memohon berjumlah 3 data, fungsi mengharap berjumlah 3 data, dan fungsi menawarkan berjumlah 5 data. (c) Ajakan memiliki fungsi mengajak berjumlah 9 data, fungsi membujuk berjumlah 2 data, fungsi mendukung berjumlah 2 data, dan fungsi mendesak berjumlah 1 data. (d) Nasihat memiliki fungsi menasehati berjumlah 5 data, fungsi mengajurkan berjumlah 3 data, fungsi menyarankan berjumlah 2 data, dan fungsi mengingatkan berjumlah 3 data. (e) Kritikan memiliki fungsi menegur berjumlah 5 data dan fungsi mengancam berjumlah 1 data. (f) Larangan memiliki fungsi melarang berjumlah 5 data dan fungsi mencegah berjumlah 4 data.

Abstract

This study explores phonological variations in the Komering dialects of South Sumatra, Indonesia, examining differences in vowel and consonant phonemes influenced by geographical and socio-cultural factors. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and synchronic dialectology, data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and technological tools like Praat software and Natural Language Processing (NLP). The findings} reveal significant phoneme shifts, such as [i] to [ε] and [h] to omission. Despite these variations, the linguistic kinship among Komering dialects remains strong, reflecting community interactions and adaptations. This research emphasizes the importance of preserving endangered regional languages by integrating phonological research with educational technology and gamification, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities). Proposed solutions include interactive language learning tools and edupreneurship initiatives to engage younger generations while fostering cultural preservation and creative innovation. The study contributes to linguistic understanding, cultural heritage preservation, and inclusive education by offering sustainable approaches to address language endangerment in the digital age.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis wacana kritis terhadap cerpen "Air" karya Djenar Maesa Ayu. Metode yang digunakan deskriptif-kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis wacana model Theo Van Leeuwen. Fokus penelitian adalah pada eksklusi (pasivasi, nominalisasi, dan penggantian anak kalimat) dan inklusi (deferensiasi-indeferensiasi, objektivasi-abstraksi, nominasi-kategorisasi, nominasi-identifikasi, determinasi-indeterminasi, asimilasi-individualisasi, dan asosiasi-disosiasi) dalam teks cerpen. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penulis cerpen menggunakan eksklusi untuk menciptakan efek tertentu dalam narasi, seperti mengalihkan perhatian dari pelaku (subjek) dan menekankan tindakan atau perasaan tokoh-tokoh dalam cerita. Di sisi lain, inklusi digunakan untuk memfokuskan perhatian pada perubahan dalam kehidupan tokoh utama, serta berbagai elemen dalam cerita, seperti kehamilan, persalinan, perasaan, dan harapan. Analisis wacana ini memberi informasi kepada pembaca dalam memahami cara penulis menggunakan bahasa untuk menciptakan efek emosional dan memperkuat pengalaman tokoh-tokoh dalam cerpen. Hasil penelitian ini juga memberikan wawasan yang mendalam tentang penggunaan bahasa dalam proses penciptaan cerita dan hubungannya dengan makna yang terkandung dalam teks cerpen.
