Abstract

The advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has reshaped journalism and education, creating opportunities to strengthen creative writing and entrepreneurial skills. AI-driven journalism platforms, such as automated content generation and real-time feedback, empower students to become both skilled writers and edupreneurs, while developing 21st-century competencies including creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy. This study examines the influence of AI integration on creative writing skills, edupreneurship, and competency development using a quantitative research design. Data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to university students and analyzed with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 4. The analysis revealed high reliability and convergent validity of the measurement model, with structural results confirming significant positive relationships between AI integration and creative writing skills, and between creative writing skills and 21st-century competencies. Furthermore, creative writing was shown to mediate the connection between AI adoption and both entrepreneurship and competency development, indicating its key role in linking technological tools with educational and entrepreneurial outcomes. The findings underline the transformative role of AI in journalism education, not only in enhancing writing proficiency but also in building entrepreneurial capacity and essential future-ready skills. This \textbf{research provides} practical implications for integrating AI literacy, creative expression, and entrepreneurship into curricula, while also aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as Quality Education, Economic Growth, Innovation, and Global Partnerships, supporting inclusive and technology-driven learning.

Abstract

The use of abbreviations and acronyms is a common phenomenon in the Indonesian language that has developed since the 1960s, particularly in military contexts. This usage has spread to various fields such as social, political, economic, cultural, and religious areas, making it an essential part of everyday communication in Indonesia. However, excessive and inconsistent abbreviation often leads to confusion. The Arabic language also has abbreviations and acronyms, but their number is far from fewer compared to Indonesian. The main challenge in translating abbreviations from Indonesian to Arabic lies in the differing characteristics of abbreviation formation between the two languages. Abbreviations in Arabic are generally based on root words or specific prefixes, which makes them different from the more flexible abbreviations in Indonesian. This study examines the challenges of translating abbreviations and acronyms in the official speeches of Indonesian President Joko Widodo from Indonesian to Arabic. Data shows that around 40% of translation errors in official speeches are due to incorrect translation of abbreviations and acronyms. A survey of specialized translators reveals that approximately 78% of them face difficulties in translating abbreviations and acronyms from Indonesian to Arabic. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach to understand and address the challenges in translating abbreviations and acronyms from Indonesian to Arabic.

Abstract

Language as a tool of communication plays a vital role in facilitating human interaction. One of the academic disciplines used to study language is sociolinguistics, which examines the relationship between language and society. Language choice is one of the issues examined in sociolinguistics. This study aims to examine language choice in the captions of Ganjar Pranowo’s X account and the factors that influence it. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method, using observation, note-taking, and documentation as data collection techniques. The data were analyzed using the agih and padan methods. The results indicate the presence of various forms of language choice in the captions of Ganjar Pranowo’s X account. Language choice is influenced by the conversation partner, the topic of conversation, and the context, including time and place. This study contributes to enriching sociolinguistic knowledge, particularly in the study of language choice in social media communication. It is expected to contribute to the field of linguistics and serve as a reference for future research on language choice and social media discourse, especially in contemporary social media and public communication contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the textual dimensions of a news article titled “Ojol Drivers Shut Down Apps; Beware of Traffic Jams in Jakarta During Today’s Protest,” published by CNN Indonesia, using Teun A. van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis model. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using a documentary method to analyze the online news text. The analysis focuses on three main structures: macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure. The results show that at the macro level, the news theme centers on a large-scale demonstration by online motorcycle taxi drivers as a form of protest against government policies and digital transportation apps. At the superstructure level, the news framing highlights social impacts such as traffic congestion and transportation disruptions as the primary focus, while substantive demands are placed at the end. At the microstructure level, the use of active sentences emphasizes the role of online motorcycle taxi drivers as social actors, whereas passive sentences tend to neutralize the role of authorities. Lexical choices such as “shutting down the app” function metaphorically as a symbol of digital resistance. Additionally, rhetorical elements such as bold and italicized text reinforce ideological emphasis. These findings confirm that media language plays a role in shaping public perception, thus the need to develop critical awareness of discourse structures in language education and media literacy.

Abstract

This study is about the reproduction of patriarchy and women's resistance in the social context dimension of the novel Gadis Kretek by Ratih Kumala using the Critical Discourse Analysis (AWK) approach of Teun A. Van Dijk. The aim of the research is to uncover how patriarchal discourse is reproduced and how women's resistance is constructed through the structure of the social context that underlies the text. The method used is qualitative with a critical discourse analysis approach. The data source is in the form of the discourse of the novel Gadis Kretek, with data in the form of discourse that contains patriarchy and women's resistance. The results show that patriarchal reproduction in the novel operates through four mechanisms: (1) dominant ideologies protected by colonial class hierarchies, (2) stigmatization of independent women in the social order, (3) patrilineal hegemony that is naturalized through everyday practice, and (4) systemic marginalization through subtle neglect. Meanwhile, women's resistance exists through two paradoxical paths: patriarchal capitalism in the kretek industry that opens up private access to the public economic space, and the historicity of the kretek industry that provides a collective precedent for women's leadership.
