Abstract

Abstract The increase in value-added of fishery products is one of which can be done by processing. In addition to maintaining the value of the protein in the fish raw material, it would be easier if the product is stored and increase the sale value of the fish itself. The ability to perform in the fish processing in Mandangin island is still very limited. Community service activities that have been carried out by a team of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Universitas Airlangga was introduce smoked fish product processing with liquid smoke, because this method easier and faster so that the products can be marketed. Liquid smoke was developed because the location is very minimal in the supply of raw materials such as firewood and coconut, so the use of liquid smoke is very appropriate. The resulting refined products are expected to be a source of protein Mandangin Island community itself and is able to become an alternative source of income for the community to increase the sale value of fishery products. Mentoring process being conducted by a team from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Universitas Airlangga so that the products can be marketed outside Mandangin Island or even to other areas in East Java.

Abstract

Abstract The damages in mangrove forest recently rise due to the exploitation, either in farming or housing. It can cause the loss of mangrove function as marine ecosystem, affect marine biota survival, environment damage and reduce fishermen income in the future. For solving these problems, some efforts can be done by maximize the mangrove forest potential. Mangrove economic value analysis was done through two approaches. The first was Direct Use Value which use for knowing the benefit of the mangrove directly. The second was statistic analysis by multiple linear regression. The result of the research shows as many as 20 % of respondent make use of Sonneratia directly, either fruits, leaves or woods. Others, as many as 80% of respondents felt the benefit of Sonneratia indirectly. The research was done at mangrove forest of the Surabaya East Coast, East Java, Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract Chitosan is the potential to serve as a food preservative, because chitosan has polikation positively charged so that it can inhibit the growth of microbes and are able to bind to the compounds negatively charged such as protein, polysaccharides, nucleid acid, heavy methal and others. In addition, molecules of chitosan has an N capable of forming amino compound which is a component of protein and amine moieties on the H atoms which facilitates chitosan interact with water through hydrogen bonds. Know who manufactured this process at the time of processing is still done traditionality. So that power save know produced has a fairy low level of durability. This study used a randomized complete design methods, experimental design was used with tree treatment with five replicate. Treatment imposed in the research include ; treatment with the awarding of chitosan as much as 1%, granting of chitosan treatment B as much as 2%, granting of chitosan treatment C by as much as 3%. Form the results of our study, obtained a good treatment doses for food out of 3%. The doses may be extend save out to 5 days in the future at room temperature and increase the levels of protein know 0,5 – 1,5 %.

Abstract

Highlight ResearchThe leopard coral grouper Plectropomus leopardus was identified and analysed based on molecular approach.Genetic diversity within two regions in Gorontalo, Sulawesi successfully performed using connectivity analysis.Three haplotypes of Plectropomus leopardus from two region in Gorontalo as one of economical important marine fish species. AbstractBar-cheek coral trout (P. leopardus) is the flagship of the grouper in the live fish market in Asia. Unfortunately, the potential of the grouper is still partly produced from natural catches. Even though hybridisation activities have also started to be carried out, there still have not been many studies on the genetic diversity of these fish. The application of molecular identification has been widely applied in marine aquatic animal species, which are very likely to occur due to errors in terms of shape and colour in the morphological character. DNA information has been beneficial in efforts to the breeding program and develop grouper aquaculture activities. DNA barcoding was used for the molecular identification and haplotype analysis of P. leopardus from two locations in Gorontalo, Sulawesi, Indonesia. A total of 14 fish samples were collected from two traditional fish markets around Kwandang and Sumalata Gulf in the northern part of Gorontalo Province, Sulawesi. This study identified and found three haplotypes from both regions. Molecular identification using Cytochrome c Oxidase subunit I (COI) gene region on mitochondrial DNA. Besides Mega7 for phylogenetic reconstruction, the data analysis using DnaSP6, Arlequin Ver.3.5.2.2, and Network 5.0.1.1. The first Haplotype is a mixed population between the Kwandang Gulf and the Sumalata Gulf, then the Kwandang Gulf haplotype and the Sumalata Gulf haplotype. The genetic distance between Kwandang Gulf haplotype and Sumalata Gulf haplotype is 0.003984, classified as a shallow genetic distance and needs more samples from another region to figure out leopard coral grouper around Indonesia.
