Abstract

This study aims to analyze the practice of Subuh Berkah as a form of the actualization of Living Hadith and to interpret community religious actions through Max Weber’s social action framework. The research adopts a Living Hadith approach, employing data collection techniques including observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation related to the Subuh Berkah movement at Dr. Suud Al-Usaywi Mosque, Grand Balaraja Residence, Tangerang, Banten. The findings indicate that the Subuh Berkah movement is a mosque-based initiative encompassing congregational prayer, collective social action, and efforts to enhance community welfare, organized by the mosque management board of Dr. Suud Al-Usaywi Mosque. The results demonstrate that Subuh Berkah represents Living Hadith through the internalization of values associated with the virtues of congregational prayer, circles of religious learning, charity, and Islamic brotherhood. From the perspective of social action theory, this practice embodies value-oriented, goal-oriented, affective, and traditional actions. This study concludes that the Subuh Berkah movement is capable of mobilizing and strengthening social cohesion, religious identity, and communal culture within society. The implications of this research affirm that hadith functions as a living tradition manifested in contextual and sustainable social practices.

Abstract

This research analyzes the Ngaji Tilam tradition in Kampung Muncung, Tangerang, through the living hadis approach to understand how the community embodies the values of hadith in cultural practices. Ngaji Tilam, which is the post-funeral recitation of the Qur'an dedicated to the deceased, is examined as a complex socio-religious phenomenon. Using a qualitative-descriptive method and data collection techniques through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with community leaders and practitioners, this study finds that the tradition functions as a multifunctional social mechanism. On one hand, it represents the actualization of hadith values regarding mutual assistance, charity, and honoring guests. On the other hand, it serves as a social adhesive that strengthens community cohesion, collective solidarity, and the emotional resilience of grieving families. Through the structural functional perspective, this ritual is viewed as a subsystem contributing to the overall stability and integration of society.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the injak telur (egg-stepping) tradition in customary wedding processions in Taktakan Village, Serang City, Banten Province, Indonesia, with a focus on its symbolic meanings as a manifestation of Living Hadis in society. The primary research question explores the extent to which hadis values are alive and actualized through this ritual practice. Employing a qualitative field study with phenomenological and social action approaches, primary data were collected via participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation from key informants, including customary leaders, tradition practitioners, and local residents. The findings reveal that the injak telur tradition serves not only as a preserved customary ritual but also as a medium for actualizing hadis values in the marital context. Its symbolic meanings encompassing the husband's responsibility as head of the family, the wife's devotion and cooperation, household harmony, and aspirations for generational continuity align with marital advice in authentic hadis, particularly those narrated by al-Bukhari and an-Nasa'i. The community in Taktakan Village interprets this tradition through a process of contextualizing hadis texts into daily religious practices, thereby forming an implicit Living Hadis. This study concludes that the injak telur tradition can serve as an effective means of marital counseling for couples to realize a sakinah (tranquil, peaceful) family.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of Living Hadith in the tradition of religious gatherings (tahlilan) held on Thursday nights seven days after a death in Tegal Sari Village, Walantaka District, Serang City, Banten. Employing a descriptive qualitative method with the Living Hadith approach developed by Saifuddin Zuhri Qudsy, data were collected through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with religious leaders and community members. The findings reveal that the tradition of Thursday night religious gatherings seven days after a death represents a concrete manifestation of Living Hadith in the socio-religious practices of the community, even though hadith values are not always referenced textually. The primary values actualized include silaturahmi (social bonds with kin, as in Sahih Bukhari no. 1925), remembrance of death (as in Sahih Tirmidzi no. 2307), social empathy, mutual cooperation (gotong royong), charity (sedekah), and da'wah through religious exhortations (tausiyah). This tradition deserves preservation as it aligns with hadith exhortations to strengthen silaturahmi, foster empathy and mutual assistance among fellow Muslims, and refresh awareness of human mortality. These findings affirm that Living Hadith in the seven-day post-death tahlilan tradition serves as an effective medium for da'wah actualization, simultaneously reinforcing social solidarity and faith within the Muslim community.

Abstract

The tradition of Ketupat Qunutan on the 15th night of Ramadan in Kampung Pinang, Tangerang City, is a religious practice of the Muslim community that integrates congregational qunut prayers, the making and distribution of ketupat as a symbol of gratitude, almsgiving, purity of heart, and brotherhood. Through a living hadith study approach, this research analyzes how the values of the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, such as communal prayer, food charity, and strengthening Islamic brotherhood, are contextualized within the local culture of the archipelago without a literal textual basis, but rather as a harmonious actualization between Islamic teachings and traditional wisdom. The findings show the dynamics of religious understanding between textual and contextual approaches, in which this tradition strengthens social solidarity, mutual cooperation, and the transmission of the Islamic identity of the archipelago, while also functioning as effective cultural da'wah without contradicting sharia law. This study contributes to the study of Islamic anthropology and living sunnah, affirming cultural acculturation as a form of religious expression that is alive and relevant.

Abstract

The wedding walimah is a religious tradition that has strong roots in Islamic teachings and continues to thrive in social practices. In the West Cengkareng area, the walimah tradition is not only understood as an expression of gratitude for the marriage contract, but also as a means of strengthening social solidarity and maintaining relationships. This study aims to analyze the wedding walimah tradition of the Cengkareng Barat community from the perspective of living hadith, which is to see how the Prophet's hadith is understood and manifested in the context of local culture. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the practice of walimah is based on the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, which encourages the holding of walimah, even if it is simple. In practice, walimah has undergone local cultural acculturation, both in terms of the form of the banquet and the series of events. This study concludes that the tradition of wedding walimah in West Cengkareng is a form of hadith that is alive and dynamic in the community.

Abstract

The tradition of mohataman Al-Qur'an is one of the religious practices that is alive and thriving among Indonesian Muslims, especially during Ramadan in preparation for Eid al-Fitr. In Kampung Pos Sentul, this tradition is carried out collectively by the community as a form of gratitude for the completion of fasting and as a means of strengthening Islamic brotherhood. This study aims to examine the tradition of mohataman Al-Qur'an from the perspective of living hadith, which is to see how the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad is understood, internalized, and manifested in the social-religious practices of the community. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach, through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the tradition of mohataman Al-Qur'an is based on the community's understanding of the hadiths about the virtues of reading the Qur'an, the encouragement to increase acts of worship during Ramadan, and the importance of togetherness in doing good. This tradition is not only ritualistic in nature, but also has social, educational, and spiritual dimensions that strengthen the religious identity of the Pos Sentul Village community. Thus, mohataman Al-Qur'an can be understood as a form of actualization of hadith in real life that continues to live on and is passed down from generation to generation.

Abstract
