Abstract

The grave realm is often also called the supernatural realm. The grave is described as an intermediary between the day of death and the day of resurrection. Many people are asking about what life is like after being in the world. They are worried about their fate after the last breath, the grave becomes a mystery that makes us want to know what the conditions of life are after being in the world. In the Islamic tradition, life after death is an important aspect of faith. It is believed that the grave is a transitional period before Judgment Day, where people experience joy and suffering based on their deeds in this life. The Prophet's hadith discusses a lot about the reality of life in the grave and provides an overview of the spiritual condition of human beings after death. The theological and ethical aspects of the pleasures and sufferings of the grave are topics that are often discussed in Islamic studies, although some aspects still need further clarification. Although there is a lot of research on the afterlife, there is still a lack of explaining how the pleasures and sufferings of the grave realm are from the perspective of prophetic tradition, especially from a theological and ethical perspective. In addition, there is no clear mapping of how these dimensions affect the daily moral life of Muslims. The purpose of this study is to analyze in depth the theological and ethical aspects of pleasure and suffering in the grave based on the hadiths of the Prophets. This research will explore how these hadiths describe the theological conception of life after death and its moral implications for Muslims in this life. Thus, this research is expected to deepen our understanding of the role of pleasure and suffering in the grave in shaping the ethical behavior of Muslims.

Abstract

The tradition of pregnant women hiding under the bed during a lunar eclipse is still found in some Muslim communities in Indonesia. This tradition is believed to serve as a means of protecting the fetus from the negative impacts of the eclipse, both physically and metaphysically. This study aims to examine this tradition from the perspective of Living Hadith, namely how the Prophet’s hadiths are understood, interpreted, and practiced within the social life of the community. This research employs a qualitative approach using field study methods, including observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that this tradition has no direct textual basis in the Prophet’s hadiths; rather, it has developed through processes of religious interpretation, local myths, and traditional knowledge that are associated with Islamic teachings. The community often relates this tradition to hadiths concerning eclipses as signs of God’s power and as moments to increase supplication and prayer. This tradition reflects a form of acculturation between Islamic values and local culture, while also demonstrating how hadiths are “lived” within the collective consciousness of the Muslim community, even when such practices do not fully align with the textual meanings of the hadiths.

Abstract

The concept of filial piety or birr al-wālidayn in the Qur’an is a form of respect, devotion, and a child’s deep sense of loyalty to their parents. This value, when viewed from a moral, social, and spiritual perspective, has a central position in building harmonious family relationships and forming a complete and civilized human character. The phenomenon of increasing disobedience behavior, even disobedience to parents in various contemporary Muslim societies, is a worrying indication and indicates the urgency of revitalizing Islamic ethical values, especially in the context of child-parent relationships. This study uses the method of thematic interpretation (tafsīr mawḍū‘ī) combined with the Constructive Grounded Theory approach to examine in depth 15 relevant verses of the Qur’an. These verses are analyzed and classified into three main categories: (1) the conceptual definition and moral-spiritual obligation of birr al-wālidayn, (2) the concrete form of expression of gratitude and recognition for the sacrifice of one’s parents, and (3) a firm warning against disobedient behavior that can have adverse consequences, both in this world and in the hereafter. The findings of this study show that birr al-wālidayn not only demands respect and obedience, but also includes gentleness of speech, sincere prayer, providing for, and consistent affection. In conclusion, birr al-wālidayn is not only a social norm but a real manifestation of monotheism and worship, which needs to continue to be contextualized in modern life through an innovative and constructive approach to interpretation.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of spiritual resilience from the perspective of the Qur'an and construct its conceptual model through a thematic Qur'anic approach (tafsir maudhu’i) combined with grounded theory. The primary research questions are: how does the Qur'an portray spiritual resilience? What values form its foundation? And how are these values interrelated in constructing a Qur'anic framework of spiritual resilience? This research employs a qualitative-exploratory method with data derived from selected Qur'anic verses concerning inner strength, life trials, and spiritual empowerment. The analysis was conducted through open coding, axial coding, and selective coding to develop a substantive theory grounded in scriptural texts. Findings reveal that Qur'anic spiritual resilience is built upon values such as ṣabr (patience), tawakkul (trust in God), husnuzhan (positive assumption), gratitude (syukr), and acceptance (ridha), which together form a cyclical pattern of spiritual growth. Qur’anic resilience is not passive, but active and transformative, positioning suffering as a path to spiritual maturity. The resulting model can serve as a foundation for developing Islamic counseling, character education, and Qur'an-based spiritual therapy

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find and analyze the types of harmful relationships from the perspective of the Qur'an. This study uses the Grounded Theory method as a thematic study approach. The types of harmful relationships are types of relationships that are emotionally, spiritually, and socially destructive, which are increasing in modern life, including among Muslims. This study investigates the verses of the Qur'an related to human relationships and the principles of relational morality and finds five main categories of harmful relationships found in the Qur'an: injustice (ẓulm), hypocrisy (nifaq) and emotional manipulation; verbal violence and humiliation of dignity; obstruction of goodness and spirituality (saddu'an sabilillah) and the spread of evil. This study shows that the Qur'an explicitly rejects types of relationships that are not based on rahmah, mawaddah, and taqwa. The results encourage the incorporation of Qur'anic values into relationship education, marriage counseling, and efforts to prevent emotional violence in the family.

Abstract

Poverty is a social issue that receives significant attention in Islamic teachings, particularly in the Qur'an. Islam not only acknowledges poverty as a societal reality but also offers normative solutions to address it through both spiritual and structural approaches. This study explores the Qur'anic perspective on poverty and its proposed strategies for empowering the community's economy. Employing a qualitative method through library research, the study thematically analyzes verses that discuss poverty and economic tools such as zakat, infaq, alms, and the prohibition of usury. The findings indicate that the Qur'an considers poverty a condition that must be eliminated using equitable social and economic instruments, while also highlighting the communal obligation to achieve collective welfare. From the Qur'anic viewpoint, economic empowerment encompasses not just material aspects but also spiritual ones, emphasizing a strong work ethic, fair distribution of wealth, and social solidarity.

Abstract

Humor is one aspect of the Prophet Muhammad’s communication that frequently appears in hadiths but is often understood partially and rarely examined through a thematic approach. This article aims to analyze humor from the perspective of hadith by exploring its forms, ethical boundaries, and impacts using a thematic hadith methodology. This study employs a qualitative approach with library research as its main method. Data were collected from primary hadith compilations through thematic searching using keywords related to humor and were analyzed through classification and content interpretation techniques. The findings indicate that the Prophet’s humor appears in two main forms: verbal and nonverbal. Verbal humor is manifested through expressions, wordplay, and rhetorical language that carry educational and empathetic values, while nonverbal humor is expressed through facial expressions, smiles, laughter, and actions reflecting relational warmth. Moreover, the hadiths establish clear ethical guidelines for humor, including the prohibition of lying, humiliating others, causing harm, and excessive laughter. In terms of impact, humor practiced in a proportional manner contributes positively to emotional balance, social harmony, and the quality of interpersonal interactions. Therefore, humor in the perspective of hadith represents an integral part of prophetic communication ethics and can serve as a normative reference for contemporary social humor practices.
