Abstract

This study aims to construct a conceptual model of self-efficacy from the perspective of the Qur’an, positioning spiritual values as the foundational elements in shaping personal belief and confidence. In contrast to established Western psychological frameworkssuch as Bandura’s model, which emphasizes cognitive, social, and affective dimensionsthis research proposes a Qur’anic self-efficacy framework rooted in tawhid (monotheism), tawakkul (reliance on God), and belief in divine intervention as core components of human agency. Employing a qualitative grounded theory approach and thematic Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir maudhu‘i), the study analyzed selected Qur’anic verses through open, axial, and selective coding. The analysis identified 19 key verses that form the basis of three interconnected dimensions of Qur’anic self-efficacy: (1) Personal efficacy, which instills a transcendent belief that ease accompanies hardship (Q.S. Al-Inshirah: 5); (2) Behavioral efficacy, which links persistent effort (mujahadah) to divine guidance (Q.S. Al-‘Ankabut: 69); and (3) Spiritual efficacy, affirming that each soul is only burdened within its capacity (Q.S. Al-Baqarah: 286). The primary novelty of this research lies in the formulation of “spiritual efficacy” as a distinct dimension, absent in conventional self-efficacy theories. This contribution expands the theoretical scope of psychology by integrating spiritual-transcendental values rooted in Islamic epistemology. Furthermore, the findings offer a theoretical foundation for the development of Islamic psychology and Qur’an-based character education, presenting a comprehensive model of human self-efficacy that harmonizes reason, behavior, and faith.

Abstract

This study examines how the jawāmiʿ al-kalim character of hadiths on companionship can be interpreted in relation to the contemporary concept of friendship circles. Rather than treating prophetic narrations on friendship as isolated moral instructions, this research approaches them as an interconnected corpus oriented toward a shared waḥdah al-ghāyah (unity of purpose). Employing a thematic method of hadith analysis, the study collects and examines narrations related to companionship from classical sources accessed through digital compilations such as Maktabah Shāmilah and Mausūʿah al-Ḥadīthiyyah. The analysis identifies seventeen hadiths that collectively articulate a patterned ethical framework for social relations. These narrations reveal several relational dimensions, including the definition and urgency of companionship, the vision and moral purpose of friendship, the ethical principles regulating interaction, and the positive and negative social consequences of association. The findings suggest that the concise formulations of hadith function as relational signifiers that structure the ideals and boundaries of social interaction. When read as a semantic network, these traditions construct a moral grammar of companionship that remains relevant for interpreting the dynamics of contemporary friendship circles.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of spiritual resilience from the perspective of the Qur'an and construct its conceptual model through a thematic Qur'anic approach (tafsir maudhu’i) combined with grounded theory. The primary research questions are: how does the Qur'an portray spiritual resilience? What values form its foundation? And how are these values interrelated in constructing a Qur'anic framework of spiritual resilience? This research employs a qualitative-exploratory method with data derived from selected Qur'anic verses concerning inner strength, life trials, and spiritual empowerment. The analysis was conducted through open coding, axial coding, and selective coding to develop a substantive theory grounded in scriptural texts. Findings reveal that Qur'anic spiritual resilience is built upon values such as ṣabr (patience), tawakkul (trust in God), husnuzhan (positive assumption), gratitude (syukr), and acceptance (ridha), which together form a cyclical pattern of spiritual growth. Qur’anic resilience is not passive, but active and transformative, positioning suffering as a path to spiritual maturity. The resulting model can serve as a foundation for developing Islamic counseling, character education, and Qur'an-based spiritual therapy

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find and analyze the types of harmful relationships from the perspective of the Qur'an. This study uses the Grounded Theory method as a thematic study approach. The types of harmful relationships are types of relationships that are emotionally, spiritually, and socially destructive, which are increasing in modern life, including among Muslims. This study investigates the verses of the Qur'an related to human relationships and the principles of relational morality and finds five main categories of harmful relationships found in the Qur'an: injustice (ẓulm), hypocrisy (nifaq) and emotional manipulation; verbal violence and humiliation of dignity; obstruction of goodness and spirituality (saddu'an sabilillah) and the spread of evil. This study shows that the Qur'an explicitly rejects types of relationships that are not based on rahmah, mawaddah, and taqwa. The results encourage the incorporation of Qur'anic values into relationship education, marriage counseling, and efforts to prevent emotional violence in the family.

Abstract

Poverty is a social issue that receives significant attention in Islamic teachings, particularly in the Qur'an. Islam not only acknowledges poverty as a societal reality but also offers normative solutions to address it through both spiritual and structural approaches. This study explores the Qur'anic perspective on poverty and its proposed strategies for empowering the community's economy. Employing a qualitative method through library research, the study thematically analyzes verses that discuss poverty and economic tools such as zakat, infaq, alms, and the prohibition of usury. The findings indicate that the Qur'an considers poverty a condition that must be eliminated using equitable social and economic instruments, while also highlighting the communal obligation to achieve collective welfare. From the Qur'anic viewpoint, economic empowerment encompasses not just material aspects but also spiritual ones, emphasizing a strong work ethic, fair distribution of wealth, and social solidarity.

Abstract

Humor is one aspect of the Prophet Muhammad’s communication that frequently appears in hadiths but is often understood partially and rarely examined through a thematic approach. This article aims to analyze humor from the perspective of hadith by exploring its forms, ethical boundaries, and impacts using a thematic hadith methodology. This study employs a qualitative approach with library research as its main method. Data were collected from primary hadith compilations through thematic searching using keywords related to humor and were analyzed through classification and content interpretation techniques. The findings indicate that the Prophet’s humor appears in two main forms: verbal and nonverbal. Verbal humor is manifested through expressions, wordplay, and rhetorical language that carry educational and empathetic values, while nonverbal humor is expressed through facial expressions, smiles, laughter, and actions reflecting relational warmth. Moreover, the hadiths establish clear ethical guidelines for humor, including the prohibition of lying, humiliating others, causing harm, and excessive laughter. In terms of impact, humor practiced in a proportional manner contributes positively to emotional balance, social harmony, and the quality of interpersonal interactions. Therefore, humor in the perspective of hadith represents an integral part of prophetic communication ethics and can serve as a normative reference for contemporary social humor practices.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of solidarity from the perspective of the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ hadiths using a thematic (maudhū‘ī) hadith approach. The research is motivated by the decline of social solidarity in modern society due to increasing individualism and pragmatic social relations. Employing a qualitative library-based method, the study draws upon authentic hadith sources such as Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Sunan Abī Dāwūd, and Sunan al-Tirmidhī, supported by relevant academic literature. The analysis involves thematic inventory, classification, and interpretation of hadith texts. The findings reveal that solidarity in hadith encompasses spiritual, social, moral, and humanitarian dimensions rooted in faith, brotherhood (ukhuwah), mutual assistance (ta‘āwun), compassion, justice, and collective responsibility. Solidarity is thus understood not merely as a social ethic but as a manifestation of faith that strengthens social cohesion and enhances spiritual well-being, making it highly relevant as a framework for social ethics in contemporary society.

Abstract

This study aims to examine hadith themes relevant to the prevention and mitigation of bullying from an Islamic perspective. The research employs a thematic hadith (mawḍū‘ī) method with a qualitative approach by tracing hadiths that share a unified objective (wihdah al-ghāyah) related to the prohibition and prevention of bullying. The search was conducted in major hadith collections using the keywords “anti-bullying,” “prohibition of bullying,” and “bullying prevention,” resulting in 15 hadiths selected as research samples. These hadiths were then classified into four main themes: fundamental principles of the prohibition of bullying, verbal bullying and communication ethics, physical bullying and behavioral self-control, and positive moral values as a means of bullying prevention. The findings indicate that the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) provide a comprehensive ethical and moral framework that rejects all forms of behavior that harm others, whether physically, verbally, or psychologically. The prohibition of hatred, envy, and violence, along with the command to guard one’s speech and control emotions, affirms that bullying contradicts the objectives of Islamic law, which uphold human dignity and social welfare. Furthermore, the cultivation of positive moral values such as iḥsān (benevolence), gentleness, empathy, and compassion is viewed as an effective preventive strategy for fostering a harmonious social environment free from bullying practices. This study concludes that hadiths function not only as normative prohibitions but also as moral guidance for character formation and the development of a civilized and ethical social order.

Abstract

Thematic hadith research represents a crucial method for comprehensively grasping hadith by gathering different narrations linked to a specific theme. Nevertheless, the application of thematic hadith studies in social life tends to be incomplete and has not been thoroughly analyzed. This article seeks to examine how thematic hadith studies are applied in the community’s social life, focusing on their applications, ethical standards, and societal effects. This research uses a qualitative methodology, primarily relying on library research. Data were gathered from primary hadith collections and related literature via thematic searches employing pertinent keywords and were examined through classification and content analysis methods. The results suggest that thematic hadith research can be applied in societal contexts by strengthening moral values, social ethics, and communication practices based on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This implementation includes elements of interpersonal relationships, social cohesion, fairness, and acceptance within the community. Additionally, thematic hadith research offers explicit ethical principles for social engagement, including honesty, mutual respect, and steering clear of actions that could harm others. Consequently, thematic hadith research serves as both an academic method and a practical basis for promoting a peaceful and civilized society.

Abstract

Consultation (syūrā) is a key tenet of Islamic governance that is highly stressed in the Qur’an and the actions of the Prophet Muhammad, as indicated in numerous hadiths. Nevertheless, the comprehension of syūrā within Islamic constitutional discourse is frequently addressed from a normative perspective and seldom analyzed through a thematic hadith lens. This article seeks to examine the notion of consultation (syūrā) through the lens of hadith by investigating its types, foundational principles, and consequences for Islamic governance utilizing a thematic hadith approach. This research utilizes a qualitative methodology, with library research as its main technique. Data were gathered from prominent hadith collections by thematically identifying keywords linked to consultation, deliberation, and leadership, and were examined using classification and contextual interpretation methods. The results show that syūrā in the hadiths manifests in various ways, such as consultative decision-making, group discussions, and the participation of capable individuals in public matters. Moreover, the hadiths highlight the ethical principles of syūrā, including justice, transparency, mutual respect, and accountability in decision-making. Regarding its effects, the practice of consultation aids in political stability, fosters public trust, and promotes collective well-being in Islamic governance. Thus, syūrā, when viewed through the lens of thematic hadith, embodies a fundamental aspect of Islamic constitutional ethics and acts as a normative basis for participatory governance in modern Islamic political theory.
