Abstract

This study aims to compare the analysis results of the maximum deformation and maximum stress on water structure using finite element method and engineering equation solver (EES). Simulation results show that verification successfully performed, with deformation value obtained is convergent to certain value with maximum percentage of 0,40%. Further, the maksimum stress value is still under the allowable stress of material 160 MPa. Hence, the structure of water tower with a capacity of 500 liters is safe to use. The result of calculation using EES shows that the deformation value is 1.70 mm. This value is different about 0.31 or 18.24% compared to the deformation value of 2.01 mm using fine meshing on ANSYS.

Abstract

Titanium Grade 2 is a type of material that is often used in industry, especially in materials for biomedical implants. Titanium Grade 2 has a good stiffness to weight ratio, is corrosion resistant and has good biocompatibility in the body. However, it has a low thermal conductivity, so it is necessary to choose the right machining parameter to produce a good surface roughness value. This study aims to determine the characteristics of Titanium Grade 2, namely the surface roughness of the results of lathe machining. The research design used the Taguchi L9 method, with 2 factors and 3 levels. The machining parameters used are spindle rotation 500; 700; 900 rpm and feed speed 25; 50; 75mm/min. The response variable studied was surface roughness. The milling process is carried out using a Maximat V13 lathe. Surface roughness was measured using a Mitutoyo surface roughess tester. Data analysis used ANOVA analysis. The results showed that there was an effect of variations in machining parameters on the surface roughness response. The spindle rotation variable has a p-value of 0.039 and the feeding motion variable has a p-value of 0.025. This shows that the two independent variables have a significant effect on the surface roughness response. The lowest surface roughness can be achieved by setting the spindle rotation at 700 rpm and the feed speed at 25 mm/min.

Abstract

In this study, three percentages of moisture content on the green sand were benchmarked to be observed their effects on the casting defects. The metal used is scrap Al-Si with wt% of Al 59.7. The metal was melted in a furnace at 550 ºC then poured into sand molds and cooled for 24 hours before it can be removed, cleaned, and finished. There were prepared three specimens for each benchmark. Qualitative observation of defects was done by physical observations on the surface of the specimens. The observations show that on the moisture content of 2.5%, there is a defect in the form of porosity. Defects in the form of drops, misruns, blowholes, and shrinkage cavity are found on the benchmark 3.5%. The most severe defects are found on the benchmark 4.5% in the form of buckles and severe shrinkage cavities that are found in almost all specimens.

Abstract

Miniplate plays an important role as one of the implant components used as a rehabilitation device for a post-fracture finger. In this study, an analysis was carried out to determine the strength of the miniplate design made from Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy material. Simulation and analysis were carried out using the finite element method. The given input for modeling tensile and bending loads determined von Mises stress, kinetic energy, strain energy, and internal energy. The analysis showed that uneven von Mises stress and strain distribution have occurred. The critical concentration of stresses was located at the center of the miniplate and these values were a lot lower than the yield stress of Ti-6Al-4V.

Abstract

Other than surgery, post-stroke spasticity, fractures due to accidents, sports injuries, and musculoskeletal disorders due to office work on the wrist can be treated using a wrist-hand orthosis. The customized conventional methods usually have some drawbacks, which are more expensive, take a long time to manufacture, and require expert skills from medical therapists. The presence of reverse engineering (RE) technology can be applied in the medical field, such as the manufacture of prosthetic or orthosis devices. This study aims to develop a reverse engineering-based wrist-hand orthosis design, analyze it using the finite element method, and fabricate it. Research methods included 3D scanning, CAD modelling, model analysis, 3D printing, and postprocessing. The model material used was PLA with variations in the thickness of 5 mm, 5.5 mm, and 6 mm, and the load values range from 0 N to 30 N. The results of the equivalent stress analysis showed that the 5 mm thickness model could withstand a load of 30 N with a maximum equivalent stress of 23.46 MPa. With a safety factor value of 2.56, it was still relatively safe, and a critical area was at the back end of the model's palm between the thumb and index finger. The equivalent elastic strain and deformation results also had the same graphic trend with the maximum values for the same model, which were 0.0076 mm and 0.614 mm, respectively. The 3D printing FDM result showed that the Voronoi perforated wrist-hand orthosis prototype was sturdy, fit, and comfortable. It is expected to hold muscle tone and immobilize for hand rehabilitation.

Abstract

Science learning is related to experimental and observational activities. Learning media is needed in the preliminary phase to increase students' motivation in studying science learning. The caliper is a physics measuring instrument that is widely used in the classroom. Measuring instrument is an instrument used to compare measurement parameters with a predetermined standard. Things that need to be considered in the use of measuring instruments include specifications, types and functions of measuring instruments. The use of dimensional measuring tools such as a caliper has a function to measure the length, thickness, length, inner diameter, outer diameter and depth of the workpiece. Each measuring instrument has a different accuracy and precision. MA Almaarif Singosari is one of the private schools in Malang Regency. This school has a science laboratory for practicum for its students, but the existing equipment is not sufficient to meet the number of students, so the practical experience of the students is still lacking. One of the tools needed is a caliper measuring tool. The purpose of this PKM activity is to increase students' knowledge about measurement techniques using a caliper in theory and practice directly on the learning media that has been provided. The caliper used in this PKM activity has a precision of 0.1 mm and 0.05 mm. The measurement test object is a cylindrical workpiece with dimensions that represent various types of measurements using a caliper. The stages of this PKM activity include field surveys, making measurement objects, procurement of caliper and training on the use of caliper. The results of this training activity proved to be able to increase students' knowledge and skills in using caliper quickly and accurately. So that it can support students' abilities while working or continuing to study. In addition, the school also received additional facilities in the form of calipers and measurement aids so that they could improve the quality of science learning at MA Almaarif Singosari.
