Abstract

This study aims to determine the perception of Indonesian workers in Japan towards the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a medium for practicing speaking Japanese. The background of this research is from the development of Society 5.0 technology in Japan which emphasizes the integration between the physical and digital worlds, including in the field of language learning. Generative AI, such as ChatGPT and similar applications, offers great potential in supporting interactive, adaptive, and contextual speaking exercises without time or place limitations. This study used a survey method with the distribution of online questionnaires to a number of Indonesian workers in various sectors in Japan. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively quantitatively to identify the level of acceptance, perceived benefits, and obstacles faced in the use of AI as a learning medium. The results of the study based on PLS-SEM showed that knowledge and use of generative AI had the most dominant effect on the use of generative AI (β = 0.698; t = 10.234), difficulty speaking Japanese (β = 0.329; t = 3.652), confidence, exposure to speech and demographics was not significant, and the predictive ability of the model was moderately strong (R² = 0.635). The use of generative AI as a medium for Japanese speaking practice in Indonesian workers in Japan is determined by AI literacy and the level of difficulty in speaking, not psychological or demographic factors. This research is useful for identifying the advantages and disadvantages of using AI so that it helps improve the Japanese language communication skills of Indonesian workers in the workplace.

Abstract

Abstract: This study investigates how English language lecturers construct the meaning of professionalism through their assessment practices in higher education. Amid growing emphasis on standardized and technology-based evaluation systems, the role of assessment as a site of ethical decision-making and pedagogical reflection remains underexplored. Drawing from a descriptive qualitative design with an interpretive paradigm, the study involved in-depth interviews with five English lecturers from two universities in Indonesia, supported by documentation analysis and thematic coding. The findings reveal that assessment functions not only as a technical procedure but also as a medium through which lecturers express values such as fairness, empathy, and integrity. These values are negotiated within the tensions between institutional policy and personal ethical convictions. The study highlights how lecturers engage in ongoing reflection, balance objectivity with contextual judgment, and navigate evaluative dilemmas to sustain their professional identity. Assessment is thus understood as a dynamic and dialogical process that contributes to the construction of a humanistic and ethically grounded professionalism. This research contributes to the growing discourse on reflective assessment and provides implications for policy development, professional development programs, and institutional support mechanisms that promote meaningful and context-sensitive evaluation practices.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the need for developing interactive multimedia–based Qawa’id instructional materials for beginner-level students in the Arabic Language Education Program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta. The research focuses on the needs analysis stage as an initial foundation for instructional material development. Data were collected through questionnaires, classroom observations, interviews, and document analysis involving 120 first-year students. The findings indicate that Qawa’id instruction still faces various challenges, particularly related to the limitations of instructional materials and learning media that tend to be theoretical and text-based, thereby hindering students’ understanding of abstract grammatical concepts. Questionnaire results reveal a very high level of need and interest in interactive multimedia–based Qawa’id materials that integrate visual, audio, animation, and interactive exercises. In addition, students demonstrate strong readiness to independently utilize digital instructional materials outside the classroom. Qualitative findings support the quantitative results, showing that visualization and contextual presentation enhance student engagement and comprehension. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the development of interactive multimedia–based Qawa’id instructional materials is an urgent and strategic necessity to improve the effectiveness of Qawa’id learning for beginner students and to serve as a conceptual foundation for the subsequent stages of instructional material development.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of audiovisual learning media in the form of learning videos in improving the understanding and writing skills of descriptive texts of grade VII students through the integration of Banten local wisdom. The product developed is a Powtoon-based learning video containing essential concepts regarding descriptive texts. The media implementation is carried out through the flipped class model, namely by distributing learning videos through the WhatsApp application so that students can study the material independently before attending class. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method that focuses on the process of designing, developing, testing, and refining learning products. The results show that audiovisual learning media is able to accommodate various learning styles of students, increase their involvement in the learning process through the presentation of interesting, easily accessible, and contextual materials, and support a more optimal understanding of concepts. In addition, the application of the flipped class model encourages students' learning independence because they have obtained initial knowledge before face-to-face learning activities take place. Thus, the development of this learning media has the potential to improve the quality and effectiveness of learning to write descriptive texts at the junior high school level.
