Abstract

This study aims to develop a valid and reliable instrument to measure preparedness for death from an Islamic perspective. This measurement tool is essential for Muslim communities as it incorporates Islamic religious values. The research was conducted in three stages: literature review, semi-structured interviews, and blueprint development. The collected data were analyzed using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to examine the factor structure and construct validity of the instrument. The initial blueprint consisted of 55 items, which were reduced to 20 items after content validity assessment by seven experts (three Islamic scholars and four psychologists). The instrument was administered to 205 respondents. The EFA results refined the scale from four factors and 20 items to two factors and 19 items. The findings indicate that preparedness for death in Islam comprises two dimensions: a transcendental dimension (belief in destiny, awareness of the afterlife, and commitment to worship) and a social dimension (support from family, peers, and the religious environment).

Abstract

This study fills a knowledge gap regarding the relationship between emotional eating and stress in college students, which has not received adequate attention and there have not been many studies that examine the relationship between these two variables in the context of college students. Stress that cannot be managed properly will lead to emotional eating behavior, which, in the future, can have both physical and mental effects on the sufferer; therefore, this research is needed. This study aimed to determine the effect of emotional eating on stress and to detect variations among studies using meta-analysis techniques. This study hypothesizes that there is a significant relationship between emotional eating and stress in university students. This study analyzed 9 primary studies using the keywords "emotional eating, stress, college" and "emotional eating, stress, adolescent" involving a total sample of n=3005 published in various journals and selected based on specific eligibility criteria. The analysis was conducted using VOSviewer to determine the distribution of publication variables and the PRISMA flow for reviewing the articles obtained in 9 studies. The meta-analysis was conducted using JASP software. The heterogeneity test results showed that the 9 studies were heterogeneous with a p-value <0.001; Q = 27,351. The mean effect size analysis results revealed a significant positive correlation between emotional eating and stress of 0.274 and included in the low category. The results of this meta-analysis are reliable because there is no publication bias and the results can be scientifically validated. This study has several limitations. First, there were only 9 studies analyzed, so the data obtained could have been more extensive. Second, changes in eating patterns based on emotions and responses to stress vary with time and geographical location. Meta-analyses include studies from different times or places that face difficulties in consistently evaluating changes.

Abstract

The high number of recidivism cases is a form of evaluation of the failure of the reintegration process of correctional clients. This study aims to determine the study of reintegration in correctional clients so that further research can be conducted. The research method used is bibliometric analysis using Vosviewer on published articles indexed by Scopus based on searches from 2000-2024. The results of the study showed that a journal search on the scopus.com site with the keywords (reentry OR resettlement OR reintegration*) AND (recidivi OR recidivism*) AND (prisoners OR incarceration OR incarcerated*) obtained 524 journals. Then reduced based on the following aspects, namely (1) English and open access, (2) Scopus-indexed scientific articles, (3) research in 2000-2024, (4) subject areas in the fields of Social, Health and Psychology. Based on the results of the Vosviewer analysis using the co-author method, it shows that the country with the highest reintegration research is America with 390 Scopus-indexed journals. This shows that research interest in the topic of reintegration is very high, followed by Australia and England and other European countries. From the author's context, there are 10 authors who show high frequency in their research, but there are only four authors who are connected to each other. This shows the lack of significant collaboration between authors. In addition, there are several potential variables for further research, namely mental health, well-being, quality of life, self-efficacy, dan support system.

Abstract

Kata Kunci:  Budaya Patriarki, Kesehatan Mental, Napza, Perempuan, Stigma Sosial  ABSTRACT Women who use drugs often face dual stigma related to their identity as both women and substance users. This stigma is closely linked to patriarchal culture and ongoing gender discrimination. As a result, stigma can hinder the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs and increase the risk of relapse. This article aims to understand substance abuse among women in relation to mental health and social responses using the theoretical frameworks of Ecological Theory, Social Cognitive Theory, and Social Control Theory. A systematic literature review was conducted using Harzing’s Publish or Perish and VOSViewer. Findings indicate that research on stigma, depression, and substance use among women remains limited. Patriarchal norms and strong social stigma further restrict women’s access to healthcare and support. By applying social control and social cognitive theories, along with Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory, this article offers a comprehensive framework to understand individual and environmental factors influencing substance abuse behavior among women. Keywords: Mental Health, Patriarchal Culture, Social Stigma, Substance Use, Women

Abstract

Psychological well-being represents an essential dimension of human quality of life, encompassing autonomy, personal growth, positive relationships, purpose in life, and self-acceptance (Ryff, 1989; Ryff, 2013). Globally, disparities in well-being remain substantial. According to the World Happiness Report 2024, Finland ranked highest with a score of 7.741, while Afghanistan was lowest with 1.721 (Helliwell et al., 2024). Concurrently, the World Health Organization (WHO, 2022) reported that one in eight individuals suffers from a mental disorder. In Indonesia, the Indonesian National Adolescent Mental Health Survey (I-NAMHS, 2022) revealed that one in three adolescents (34.9%), equivalent to approximately 15.5 million youths, experienced a mental health disorder within the past year (Center for Reproductive Health, University of Queensland, & Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, 2022).Adolescence is a critical developmental stage characterized by identity-seeking, emotional fluctuation, and heightened vulnerability to stress (Erikson in Danyalin & Tantiani, 2022; Leuwol, Jamin, & Ayu, 2023). Effective psychosocial support during this phase is essential, particularly in institutional settings such as Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), which play a major role in shaping adolescent identity in Indonesia. Pesantren emphasize moral and religious development, yet their structured environments often present unique challenges. Studies have shown that santri (students) struggle with stressors including heavy academic and religious demands, social adaptation, and cultural differences (Nabilah, Arifin, & Tarsono, 2022; Misbahudin & Munawaroh, 2024; Alfarisi, Mulyanto, & Waspodo, 2022). For example, Ayu, Sundari, and Rahmawati (2024) found that 83.4% of pesantren students reported mild-to-moderate stress, significantly associated with adaptability issues. To address these challenges, expressive writing has emerged as a promising psychological intervention. Originally developed by Pennebaker, expressive writing enables individuals to articulate their deepest emotions and thoughts, promoting both emotional catharsis and cognitive restructuring (Pennebaker & Seagal, 1999). Empirical evidence supports its benefits, including improved emotional regulation, reduced stress, enhanced resilience, and better physical health (Baikie & Wilhelm, 2005; Kirk, Schutte, & Hine, 2011; Travagin, Margola, & Revenson, 2015). Structured in four stages-recognition, examination, reflection, and application-expressive writing facilitates meaning-making and self-clarity (Oentarto, 2021).This study investigates the effectiveness of expressive writing in enhancing psychological well-being among students in an Islamic boarding school. The research tested two hypotheses: (1) there would be a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores in the experimental group, and (2) there would be a significant difference in post-test scores between the experimental and control groups.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of education level, ethnicity, and their interaction on the social integration of juveniles in conflict with the law. Social integration is a crucial aspect in the rehabilitation process, particularly for adolescents who experience social stigma and marginalization due to their legal status. A total of 260 juveniles in conflict with the law, recruited from Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak (LPKA) across several provinces in Java, Indonesia, participated in this quantitative study. Data were collected using a validated and reliable social integration scale and analyzed using a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The findings indicate that neither education level nor ethnicity independently had a statistically significant effect on social integration. However, a significant interaction effect between education and ethnicity was found. Specifically, juveniles from the Betawi ethnic group with junior high school education exhibited a lower level of social integration compared to their Javanese counterparts. These findings suggest that the combination of socio-educational background and cultural identity may influence the success of social integration among at-risk youth. This study highlights the importance of culturally responsive rehabilitation programs that consider both educational and ethnic factors in promoting social harmony and reintegration.
