Abstract

This research aims to map the research products of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) lecturers from 2021 to 2023 as a basis for determining effective science communication strategies. It examines the research products generated through a grant scheme, emphasizing their downstream application and commercialization to achieve academic, economic, and social impact. The research employed a quantitative approach to organize research topics and a qualitative approach to describe research trends. Data were collected through documentation of research reports from faculty members of Yogyakarta State University (UNY), which were downloaded from the DRPM UNY system, totaling 1,845 documents, with 724 from 2023, 590 from 2022, and 531 from 2021. The collected data were then analyzed to identify the most frequently discussed research groups, keywords, and topics. The research results show variation in research groups over the years, with a dominance of innovation and learning groups in 2021, development and literacy groups in 2022, and analysis and learning model groups in 2023. The most frequently appearing keywords were "learning," "development," and "COVID-19" in 2021; "development," "learning," and "Yogyakarta" in 2022; and "development," "learning," and "model" in 2023. The most discussed topics included the COVID-19 pandemic, physical fitness, and the development of learning models. This research concludes that mapping research products can facilitate the grouping process, thereby aiding in the planning of effective science communication strategies. Such strategies are essential to ensure that research findings are accessible and understandable to the general public, thus increasing the appreciation and utilization of research outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the quality of a physics critical thinking test focused on the topic of diffraction grating using the Rasch model, with the aid of QUEST software. The research employed an evaluative methodology with a descriptive quantitative approach. The subjects consisted of 30 eleventh-grade students from SMA Budi Mulia Dua Yogyakarta. The test instrument comprised 10 multiple-choice physics questions, which were developed and validated in collaboration with physics teachers. These questions specifically addressed the concept of diffraction grating, aiming to measure students’ critical thinking skills in that domain including interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, and explanation. Data analysis was conducted using the Rasch model via QUEST software to evaluate item fit, reliability, and consistency. The results showed that 8 out of the 10 items had INFIT MNSQ values ranging from 0.77 to 1.33, indicating a good fit with the Rasch model. However, items 6 and 9 were found to have INFIT MNSQ values outside the acceptable range, suggesting that they were misfitting and should be revised and refined to better align with the intended construct. Despite this, the items may be revised for future use. The OUTFIT t values for all items were ≤ 2.00, confirming their usability. Additionally, the item reliability estimate was 0.84 and the case reliability estimate was 0.56, demonstrating high internal consistency and indicating that the test is suitable for measuring students' critical thinking skills in physics

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the main competencies in 21st-century learning that students, especially in science learning, must possess. However, students' critical thinking skills are still relatively low, so teaching materials are needed that can train and improve these abilities. One solution that can be applied is using interactive science e-books with the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of interactive science e-books with the PBL model in improving students' critical thinking skills. This study uses a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest Design. The research sample consisted of 30 grade VII students selected by purposive sampling. The data collection technique used a critical thinking skills test, a pretest, and a posttest with 10 descriptive questions. The data were analyzed using parametric statistics. A paired sample t-test showed a significant difference in students' average critical thinking skills after using interactive science e-books with the PBL model. The results of this study indicate that interactive science e-books with the PBL model effectively improve students' critical thinking skills. These findings indicate that using digital-based teaching materials with a PBL approach can be an innovative learning strategy for improving students' critical thinking skills in the digital era.

Abstract

Cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) is a high-value horticultural commodity with various benefits, ranging from food ingredients to medicinal purposes. However, cultivation still faces challenges, such as dependency on chemical fertilizers, which can harm the environment. As a solution, organic fertilizer derived from milkfish stomach waste has the potential to be utilized due to its rich nutrient content and environmentally friendly properties. This study aimed to examine the effect of varying amounts of milkfish stomach waste compost on the growth of cayenne pepper plants. The research employed a Completely Randomized Design with five compost mass treatments (0, 200, 300, 400, and 500 g) applied to cayenne pepper plants. The observed parameters included the plant height and leaf count. The results indicated that the compost mass significantly affected the growth of cayenne pepper plants. Treatment with 500 g of compost yielded the best results, marked by the highest average increase in plant height and leaf count compared to other treatments. This study demonstrates that milkfish stomach waste has excellent potential as a raw material for organic fertilizers to support the growth of horticultural crops in the future. Keywords: cayenne pepper, compost, milkfish waste, organic fertilizer, plant growth
