Abstract

Abstract

Psychological well-being is a complex construct involving optimal psychological functioning and experience. When people are experiencing problems in psychological well-being, self-compassion is a powerful resource for dealing with stress, depression, and increasing resilience. Self-compassion is directly related to feelings of compassion and concern for others. Self-compassion is very important for adolescents because adolescence is a vulnerable period for self-criticism. Education is one of the important things in the life of every human being and is an obligation for every human being. Through education, a person can develop their potential. In education, of course, there is stress in itself. Academic stress results from stress related to grades and competition for higher education advancement. The researcher conducted this study to determine whether self-compassion mediates the relationship between academic stress and psychological well-being in high school and vocational high school students. Researchers used the Hayes mediation regression analysis technique with Process to see the role of self-compassion as a mediator in the relationship between academic stress and psychological well-being of SMA and SMK students. There were 164 participants in this study, aged 15-19 years, who were high school or vocational high school students. The study results show that self-compassion fully mediates the relationship between academic stress and psychological well-being in SMA and SMK students. These results are expected to be the basis for creating intervention programs that can prevent the impact of academic stress on high school and vocational students so that they can have good psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study examined the mediating role of teacher behavior in the relationship between parental and peer social support and students’ school well-being. Conducted as a case study at University X, the research aimed to understand how teacher behavior influences students’ academic well-being within the context of changing educational environments. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 305 active students aged over 18 through purposive sampling. Standardized questionnaires were used to measure teacher behavior, school well-being, and social support from parents and peers. The data were analyzed using path analysis with JASP and SPSS software. Results indicated that parental and peer social support significantly influenced students’ school well-being. Furthermore, teacher behavior was found to partially mediate this relationship, suggesting that supportive and consistent lecturer conduct enhances the positive impact of social support on academic well-being. These findings highlighted the importance of teacher behavior as an educational resource and offered valuable insights for improving student well-being, particularly in higher education settings experiencing transitions in learning modalities.

Abstract

This study examines the role of family functioning on anxiety moderated by emotion regulation. Anxiety is a negative emotion characterized by worry and uncertainty about the future. One cause of anxiety is family functioning that isn't going well. Family functioning is the ability of the family to meet the needs of its members by overcoming problems, pressures, and supporting each other. To minimize the occurrence of high anxiety caused by family functioning that is not optimal, individuals need emotion regulation as a protective factor. Emotion regulation is the way individuals manage feelings when faced with tension in their lives. Quantitative research methods are used with non-probability sampling techniques with purposive sampling. The research participants totaled 390 individuals aged 17-27 years. The questionnaire was completed by research participants online and contained three measurement tools, namely the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) measurement tool to measure anxiety, the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale II (FACES II) and the Family Communication Scale (FCS) to measure family function, and the Emotion regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) to measure emotion regulation. Data processing was done with SPSS ver. 27, and Process Marco Model 1. The results show that emotion regulation in the high reappraisal dimension ( effect = -0.139, p = 0.002) and low suppression dimension ( effect = -0.191, p = 0.000) can be a moderator in the relationship between family functioning and cohesion dimension. Thus, emotion regulation can be a protective factor to minimize individuals experiencing anxiety in the midst of low functioning families.

Abstract

Sexual violence is a serious problem in society, which is also an issue of gender equality, which occurs in the environment including in educational institutions. The lack of sex education and the culture of taboo in society has led to the concept of sexual violence. The negative impact of sexual violence behavior also cannot be ignored because it causes physical, mental, social and material injuries and losses. Related to the increasing cases of sexual violence, especially in educational institutions, the PKM Team of Tarumanagara University conducted psychoeducation as an effort to prevent sexual violence in adolescent students at school. The purpose of psychoeducation is to increase students' awareness of the dangers and ways to prevent sexual violence, as well as to create a safe and comfortable environment at school. The seminar participants were 200 students from Kristen Yusuf Junior and Senior High School. The results of the PKM are that students understand what sexual violence is, what forms it takes, how to prevent, and overcome so as not to become victims or perpetrators of sexual violence. The evaluation of this seminar is that the students hope to apply this in their daily lives. The implication of this seminar is that an intervention, such as sex education psychoeducation, can be made to tackle the problem of sexual violence, especially in the school environment.

Abstract

Statistical data on mental health has been raising awareness of the need for attention to this issue. One of the factors that can affect a person's mental health is emotional distress, which can have various causes. The experience of individuals who receive different treatment from their parents (parental differential treatment) while growing up with their siblings can be a cause of emotional distress, even when the individual is already grown up. This study examined the role of Sibling Relationships as a moderator in the relationship between parental differential treatment and emotional distress in adults. Participants were 216 individuals aged 20 years and over, had siblings who lived and grew up together with the same parents before living independently. Using quantitative methods, with data collection employing non-probability sampling techniques using the Sibling Relationship Questionnaire (SRQ), Sibling Inventory of Differential Treatment (SIDE), and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale. (DASS). The research findings indicate there is a role of Sibling Relationship as a moderator in the relationship between Parental Differential Treatment and Emotional Distress in adults. The implication is that Sibling Relationship can act as a factor that weakens or strengthens the impact of Parental Differential Treatment on the Emotional Distress in adulthood.

Abstract

The rise in the prevalence of loneliness is closely associated with the increasing utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, such as AI chatbot companionship (AICC), which are becoming increasingly employed by individuals experiencing loneliness. However, there is a lack of studies that attempt to address the psychological impact of using chatbots. The aim of this research is to investigate the correlation between the phenomenon of loneliness experienced by humans and the increased use of chatbot companionship through quantitative correlational analysis. The findings of the primary data analysis, which was based on research participants (n=237), suggest a significant relationship between loneliness and perceived use of AICC. The present finding highlights the importance of using AICC cautiously in early adulthood, as such technology may alleviate feelings of loneliness, overreliance has the potential to adversely impact the development of meaningful real-life social connections and relationships.

Abstract

Individual development from birth to adulthood involves different complexities and responsibilities at each stage. Adolescence, as a crucial transition to adulthood, emphasizes the importance of readiness to face the world of work. In this context, students, as part of the adolescent group, have the responsibility to develop academic knowledge and abilities. Optimal academic achievement is not only beneficial for students but also for society. This study focuses on the relationship between academic resilience and wisdom in high-achieving students who experience impostor syndrome, as well as the role of self-esteem in this dynamic. This quantitative study with a correlational design involved 379 high-achieving students ranging in age from 18 to 26 years. Data were collected using the Academic Resilience Scale, Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale, Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale, and Brief Self-Assessed Wisdom Scale. The results showed that academic resilience had a significant positive contribution to wisdom in students with impostor syndrome. In contrast, self-esteem was not found to contribute significantly to wisdom in the same group of students. These findings underscore the importance of academic resilience in fostering wisdom among high-achieving students who face the challenges of impostor syndrome.
