Abstract

The agricultural sector is a sector a mainstay in development in East Kolaka Regency, especially in cocoa and cattle commodities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of the corporate-based cocoa area development program (integration of cocoa plants and cattle) in East Kolaka Regency. This study uses a qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of the study concluded that smallholder cocoa plantations have prospects in supporting the integrated farming model with cattle. Integrated farming strongly supports the pattern of commodity diversification (cocoa and cattle), which are able to support each other in both business sub-sectors. Cocoa farming has not had an effect on increasing cocoa farming in each village. This is because the distribution of the proceeds from the sale of cattle is divided into each group, so that the integration of cocoa and cattle is not carried out properly.

Abstract

Abstract

Chicory by-product is left over from producing chicory vegetables not sold in the market or the result of weeding the vegetable parts not used for human consumption. This study aimed to evaluate the use of chicory gerbage in the ratio of the percentage of KUB chicken giblets. The research design was completely randomized (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. In each treatment, there were 5 KUB chickens. The treatments included: P0 = ration without flour of chicory by-products, P1 = ration with 3% flour of chicory by-products, P2 = ration with 6% flour of chicory by-products, and P3 = ration with 9% flour of chicory by-products. The parameters observed in this study were the percentage of gizzard, liver, and heart weights. The results showed that adding flour of chicory by-products had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the percentage of heart but had no significant effect on the percentage of gizzard and liver. The gizzard, liver, and heart percentages were 4.04-4.53%, 2.83-2.99%, and 0.67-0.78%. The percentage of giblet in KUB chickens is still in the normal range, so chicory by-products can be used as an alternative feed for KUB chickens. This study concludes that providing flour of chicory by-products of up to 9% in the ration is still safe for KUB chicken giblets.

Abstract

Chicken slaughter had to fulfill requirements such as the slaughter done in Islamic ways and the meat processed hygienically in order to produce safe, healthy, whole, and halal. Partner farmer at Alebo, Konda Sub-district, Konawe Selatan Regency implemented a simple slaughter system with less hygienic tools and procedures that increased the risk of contamination in meat. This community partnership program aimed to increase the farmer’s information and skill in managing native chicken slaughterhouses in order to produce better carcass and fish feed from slaughter waste. The methods used in this program were physical and non-physical methods which consisted of the slaughterhouse renovation, chicken slaughter, and carcass packaging training, fish feed production using slaughter waste training, discussion, and public lecture. Results of the program show that partner farmers are able to implement Islamic and hygienic slaughter processes and use better packages for the carcass. The farmers also understand the importance of slaughter waste processing and producing fish feed as an additional product of the slaughterhouse.

Abstract

Kampong chicken is the result of the domestication of the red jungle fowl (Red jungle fowl or Gallus gallus), raised by their ancestors for generations. It has spread to almost all parts of Indonesia. This study aims to identify and analyze the comparison of the quantitative characteristics of native chickens in the Uepai District and Soropia District, Konawe Regency. This research was conducted in Uepai District and Soropia District, Konawe Regency, from April to December 2022, using 400 kampong chickens aged 6-24 months consisting of 200 males and 200 females divided in the two study locations. This research shows that the quantitative characteristics of native chickens in the Uepai District have a higher average value than in the Soropia District, both for males and females. The coefficient of diversity value for body size of kampong chickens in Uepai District and Soropia District shows the medium (5≥) to high (15≥) category for both males and females.

Abstract

Community service program providing technical guidance by the Halu Oleo University KKN-Thematic Team to the farmers. Implementation of activities carried out in Wonua Village, Konda District, South Konawe Regency. This activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of farmers in processing rice straw as ruminant feed so that it can fulfill shortage of feed during the dry season. The method of implementing the activity begins with with a location survey in Wonua Village, analyzing the problems experienced and exploring the potential that exists in Wonua Village, implementing technical guidance, and evaluation of activities. Wonua farmer is given additional knowledge through the technical guidance activities of straw ammoniation so that they can maximize rice straw that has no previous useful value into ruminant feed. This activity involved the thematic KKN team from the faculty of animal husbandry UHO, students participating in KKN and also the farmers. This technical guidance has been able to provide additional knowledge for the community to independently process rice straw into ammoniated straw which is useful when there is a shortage of animal feed useful when there is a scarcity of ruminant feed.
