Abstract

Three strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), Lactobacillus plantarum WGK 4, Streptococcus thermophilus Dad 11, and Lactobacillus plantarum Dad 13, were used for fermentation of jack bean milk and studied their capability to increase the antioxidant activity. Fermentations were carried out at 37oC for 24 h for each strain. Cell growth, titratable acidity (TA), pH, β-glucosidase activity, and total phenolic content were monitored every six hours. Quantification of isoflavones was determined using UFLC (Ultra Fast Liquid Chromatography). The antioxidant properties were investigated using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. The result showed that all three LAB strains grew well in jack bean milk to 9.15- 9.26 log CFU/ml, produced acid and decreased the pH to 4.71-5.00 after 24 h fermentation. During fermentation, all three LAB strains could produce β-glucosidase (27.08-27.18 mU/ml) and released aglycones content in jack bean milk (3.71- 4.02 µg/g daidzein and 9.00-10.26 µg/g genistein). The phenolic content and DPPH radical scavenging activity increased 1.1-1.4 fold and 1.4 fold (30-42%), respectively. The results indicate all three LAB strains have a similar ability to increase antioxidant properties and potentially be good starter cultures for fermentation in jack bean milk.

Abstract

Home catering business is a growing business with a system that depends on the number of orders and production costs that are not fixed in each period [1]. This condition makes it difficult for business owners to predict income accurately. Based on this, this study aims to build a revenue prediction system using the Fuzzy Tsukamoto Method that is able to process data on the number of orders and production costs as variables as objects to measure the value of income in a home catering business. The data source for this study was collected based on order production data. The data used in this study is questionnaire data with a simple random sampling technique. The sample of respondents was 50 respondents. The variable used was the number of catering orders produced based on the income value. The method used to solve this case is to utilize data mining techniques with the Fuzzy Tsukamoto method. The data was processed using visual studio software and calculated from 3 variables, namely the order variable (P1) has a Fuzzy set with few and many, the price variable (H) has an affordable and low set, and the income variable (P2) has a low and high set. The predicted revenue of the catering business resulted in orders for 750 boxes at a price of Rp. 25,000, with a predicted weekly revenue of Rp. 25,750,000. This can be used as input for home catering businesses.

Abstract

Pre-reading skills are a crucial foundation for early childhood literacy development; however, conventional teaching methods often lack multisensory engagement, which limits their effectiveness. While previous studies have acknowledged the importance of sensory experiences, a gap remains in empirical evidence that quantitatively demonstrates the impact of specific tactile media, such as Sandpaper Letters, on pre-reading abilities in children aged 5-6 within localized educational contexts. This study aims to analyze the effect of Sandpaper Letter media on the pre-reading skills of children in this age group. Using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design, the research involved 30 children from a kindergarten. The experimental group received learning interventions using Sandpaper Letters, while the control group used conventional methods. Data were collected through pre-reading skill tests and analyzed using normality tests (Kolmogorov-Smirnov) and an independent t-test. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group's letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and simple word formation skills, with a t-count of 1.934 exceeding the t-table of 1.729. The study concludes that Sandpaper Letter media is a practical, multisensory-based tool for significantly enhancing the pre-reading skills of children aged 5-6 years, offering a valuable strategy for early childhood educators.

Abstract

The Bongal site in Central Tapanuli preserves important archaeological evidence of early interactions between the Indonesian Archipelago and the Islamic world during the 7th–10th centuries CE. Excavations at the site have yielded a range of early Islamic artifacts, including glass beads associated with Fustat and Nishapur, Umayyad and Abbasid coins, rings bearing Arabic inscriptions, bronze perfume containers, glazed earthenware and glassware from West Asia, as well as medical and chemical instruments. This study aims to reconstruct the earliest presence of Islamic civilization in Indonesia by examining the role of Bongal as a port within the Indian Ocean trade network. The research employs a literature review, comparative analysis with archaeological findings from West Asia and Southeast Asia, and direct observation of collections housed at the Museum of the History of the Qur’an of North Sumatra. The results indicate that Bongal functioned not only as a distribution center for aromatic commodities such as camphor and benzoin, but also as a conduit for the transmission of technology, religious symbols, and Islamic material culture. These findings support the conclusion that the early Islamization of Indonesia occurred primarily through peaceful commercial interactions, positioning Bongal as one of the earliest gateways of Islamic civilization in the archipelago.
