Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by high blood glucose levels because the body cannot release or use insulin adequately. Diabetes mellitus has become a health problem whose prevalence continues to increase in society. WHO estimates an increase in the number of people with diabetes mellitus in Indonesia from 8.4 million in 2000 to about 21.3 million in 2030. One of the natural remedies that can be used to lower blood sugar levels is cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia). Purpose: This systematic review aims to find out the effectiveness of cinnamon use against blood sugar reduction in people with diabetes mellitus. Methods: Journals are derived from electronic databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed and Science Direct, published from 2017 to 2021. Keywords used: cinnamon, diabetes mellitus, and benefits. Discussion: Bioactive content in cinnamon, flavonoids, can lower blood sugar levels by affecting glucose and insulin function in the body. The action mechanism of cinnamon by increasing the sensitivity of insulin receptors includes activating 3-kinase P1 receptors and inhibiting tyrosinfosfatase, increasing the concentration of the fossilized IRS-1 substrate and its binding to 3-kinase PI, activating syntaseglyogen, stimulating glucose uptake, and activating kinase from insulin receptors. Conclusion: After a review of 7 journals, it can be concluded that the administration of cinnamon has the potential to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Introduction: Lack of sun exposure due to lack of outdoor activities can lead to vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is an important regulator of calcium metabolism so its presence is very important for life and vitamin D deficiency is common throughout the world. Based on data from the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), more than 200 million women in the world suffer from osteoporosis, with the majority of women aged over 60 years. The purpose of this scoping review was to determine the relationship between vitamin D deficiency due to indoor activity and the occurrence of osteoporosis. This research was conducted using the scoping review method, which was a database search for several articles from international journals related to vitamin D deficiency, indoor activity and osteoporosis. The databases used in this study were Pubmed, Science Direct and Google Scholar there were 664 articles obtained. After screening the articles with inclusion and exclusion criteria, 16 articles were deemed relevant. Then, the researchers reviewed and analysed the articles for the review article. The conclusion from this scoping review is that vitamin D deficiency can be caused by a lack of sun exposure due to indoor activities which are a lifestyle and daily activities at work. Meanwhile, vitamin D deficiency can lead to an increased risk of osteoporosis through less than optimal bone and muscle function and increased bone turnover as a result of increased levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH).

Abstract

Introduction: Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish oil. Omega-3 fatty acids play a role in the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in both developed and developing countries. Cardiovascular is a disease group that includes coronary heart disease (CHD), cerebrovascular disease, peripheral artery disease, rheumatic heart disease, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism. Purpose: This systematic review aims to identify the prevention of cardiovascular events using fish oil. Methods: This journal was obtained from the Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Science Direct databases, which then extracted the data by looking at all the selected publication articles. Results: This reviewed journal shows the beneficial effects of fish oil in reducing mortality from cardiovascular disease. Omega-3s show benefits for preventing cardiovascular disease because omega-3s can reduce blood platelets and thus prevent the clogging of arteries. Discussion: Arterial blood vessels are at risk of obstructing blood flow to the heart. Conclusion: Thus, it can be concluded that fish oil can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Abstract

Introduction: One of the eye diseases experienced by children, adults, and the elderly is Myopia. Myopia is a refractive error in the eye where the resulting image point falls in front of the retina. Time spent on near vision work and lack of outdoor activities are environmental factors of great concern .The purpose of this scoping review is to find out how work activities affect the prevalence of myopia. The method in this study uses the literature study method. The data was carried out by searching the Science Direct database, the Oxford Journal and Google Scholar. The result of this scoping review is that myopia is caused by using computers at a young age and sitting too much to read indoors which causes myopia and efforts to prevent myopia are by limiting the use of computer screens and doing outdoor activities.

Abstract

Introduction: Elderly are people who have reached the age of more than 60 years and have experienced natural changes, both physical changes and changes related to the disease process. Elderly people tend to have a higher risk of experiencing degenerative diseases due to decreased body function. One of the diseases that is often suffered by the elderly is hypertension. Management to overcome hypertension can be done non-pharmacologically with complementary therapy, namely a combination of ergonomic gymnastics and music therapy (Serasi). Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of combination therapy of ergonomic gymnastics and music therapy (Serasi) on reducing blood pressure in the elderly. Methods: The research method used is case study method. This intervention was given to 3 elderly with hypertension. The intervention was carried out for 3 days with a duration of ± 30 minutes per day. Data analysis used in this study used the Wilcoxon test. Discussion: Client's blood pressure after being given the intervention decreased with an average blood pressure of 158 mmHg (systolic) and 89.89 mmHg (diastolic). The Wilcoxon test results obtained a Sig. (2-tailed) value for systolic of 0.007 and diastolic of 0.017 where this value is <0.05. There is a significant effect of providing a combination of ergonomic gymnastics and music therapy (Serasi) on blood pressure in elderly hypertensive patients.
