Abstract

This study aimed to describe the skills of writing descriptive text through image media in the form of identification structures or general statements and section description structures in class VII students at SMP Negeri 2 Genteng. The research data is in the form of essays/the results of learning the skills of writing descriptive text through the media of images in class VII B students at SMP Negeri 2 Genteng. Data collection techniques used documentation techniques which were carried out through five stages, namely (1) research questions, (2) determining category definitions and levels of abstraction, (3) category formulation, (4) category revision, and (5) final work. The research instrument is the researcher himself as the main instrument and is assisted by supporting instruments in the form of assessment instrument tables. The data in the study were analyzed through four stages, namely: (1) reading and studying, (2) identifying, (3) presenting the results of the categorization, and (4) concluding the results of the analysis found. The technique for testing the validity of the data in this study uses the observation persistence technique. The results of the data analysis show that there are assessment indicators in the form of (1) identification structures or general statements which include object recognition. (2) the structure of the description of the part, which includes words that refer to the names of objects, material or action verbs, and adjectives. Based on the data results, this study concludes that students are categorized as good because students can write descriptive text through media images based on assessment indicators.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis bentuk kata serta kalimat sarkasme pada kolom komentar media sosial. Fokus penelitian diarahkan pada pola linguistik dan fungsi sosial dari sarkasme yang muncul dalam bentuk leksikal dan sintaksis. Kajian dilakukan menggunakan pendekatan sosiosemantik untuk menelaah hubungan antara makna dan konteks sosial. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi dan pencatatan. Analisis data mengacu pada teori sosiosemantik yang dikemukakan oleh Halliday, khususnya dalam konteks hubungan antara teks dan situasi sosial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sarkasme dalam kolom komentar muncul dalam bentuk kata tunggal, kata majemuk (idiom), dan akronim. Pada tataran kalimat, ditemukan pola sarkasme berbentuk kalimat interogatif dan imperatif yang menyiratkan sindiran tajam. Struktur kalimat sarkastik umumnya mengikuti pola oposisi antara Subjek (S) dan Predikat (P), di mana makna yang muncul sering kali berlawanan dengan makna harfiah. Pola ini menciptakan efek sindiran yang kuat, sehingga sarkasme tetap terbaca meskipun mengalami variasi bentuk.

Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan mengenai bentuk kesalahan penggunaan ejaan yang ditemukan pada karangan narasi siswa imigran di sangar bimbingan kamus Gombak Utara Kuala Lumpur. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa dokumen tertulis, yang bersumber dari karangan narasi siswa imigran di sanggar bimbingan kamus Gombak Utara Kuala Lumpur. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah dokumentasi berupa teknik baca dan teknik catat. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah analisis data kualitatif yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian mengenai kesalahan penggunaan ejaan telah disimpulkan bahwa fenomena mengenai kesalahan penggunaan ejaan masih banyak dilakukan oleh siswa saat menulis karangan narasi. Adapaun jenis-jenis kesalahan yang dialami oleh siswa yaitu sebagai berikut; 1) kesalahan penggunaan huruf ditemukan meliputi kesalahan penggunaan huruf kapial. Kesalahan penggunaan huruf kapital disebabkan oleh kesalahan penggunaan huruf kapital pada awal kalimat dan kesalahan penggunaan huruf kapiatal sebagai huruf pertama unsur nama orang, 2) kesalahan penulisan kata ditemukan kesalahan yang meliputi: kesalahan penulisan kata dasar yang disebabkan oleh kata dasar yang tidak ditulis secara satu kesatuan atau di singkat, kata depan yang disebabkan oleh kesalahan penulisan kata depan di- , partikel yang disebabkan oleh kesalahan penulisan partikel -lah , dan kata ganti yang disebabkan oleh kesalahan penulisan kata ganti -nya, 3) kesalahan penggunaan tanda baca yang meliputi: kesalahan penggunaan tanda titik yang disebabkan oleh kesalahan penggunaan tanda titik di akhir kalimat, tanda koma yang disebabkan oleh kesahan penggunaan tanda koma sebelum kata penghubung, dan tanda petik yang disebabkan oleh kesalahan penggunaan tanda petik dalam pembicaraan, 4) kesalahan penulisan unsur serapan yang disebabkan oleh kesalahan penulisan kata serapan dari bahasa arab. Kesalahan dapat terjadi disebabkan karena interferensi bahasa dimana siswa sanggar bimbingan berasal dari latar belakang bahasa melayu dan kurangnya pemahaman siswa dalam penggunaan (EYD V), karena kurangnya pemahaman tersebut dapat mengakibatkan terjadinya kesalahan penggunaan ejaan.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the representation of two forms of trauma, namely psychological trauma and neurosis trauma, in the novel Kidung Rindu di Tapal Batas by Aguk Irawan MN. This study integrates the traumatic theory of Fatmah K. and Diah Retno Ningsih with Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic approach to interpret the psychological dynamics of the characters through three structures of personality: id, ego, and superego. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method through reading techniques and recording data in the form of dialogue, narration, and descriptions that show symptoms of trauma. The analysis is carried out by classifying the types of trauma and interpreting the characters' psychological responses to inner stress and traumatic experiences. The research results show that psychological trauma and neurosis are represented through inner conflict, fear, loss, and guilt experienced by the characters. The dynamics between the id, ego, and superego show how the ego acts as a mediator between instinctual drives and moral control in the face of traumatic stress. Theoretically, this research enriches the study of literary psychology by confirming that literary works function as a reflection of human psychological conditions and a medium for understanding the dynamics of trauma in the context of Indonesian literature.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of women as victims of masculine power in Cantik Itu Luka by Eka Kurniawan through the lens of Simone de Beauvoir’s existentialist feminism. The novel was chosen for its intricate portrayal of women’s suffering and social positioning within Indonesia’s patriarchal structure, marked by violence, sexuality, and moral oppression. While earlier research has explored themes of women and patriarchy in Kurniawan’s works, studies explicitly connecting Cantik Itu Luka to Beauvoir’s existentialist feminist theory remain scarce. This study therefore contributes to a deeper understanding of women’s freedom and existence in Indonesian literature. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research draws on the text of Cantik Itu Luka as the primary data source. Analysis is conducted through close reading of narrative elements, symbols, and character actions, framed by Beauvoir’s concepts of freedom, oppression, and woman as the “Other.” The findings reveal that masculine power in the novel manifests through physical violence, sexual exploitation, and moral or social control over women’s bodies. The protagonist, Dewi Ayu, together with other female characters such as Alamanda and Maya Dewi, embodies the subjugation of women under patriarchy. Yet, amid this suffering emerges an existential awareness that urges women to assert freedom and autonomy as self-determining subjects. Through his use of magical realism, Kurniawan captures the tension between oppression and resistance, illuminating women’s search for meaning and agency. Ultimately, this study enriches feminist literary criticism in Indonesia by showing how literature reflects women’s existential struggles toward liberation and self-sovereignty.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the healthy personality of the main character in the Manusia dan Badainya novel and to describe its relevance in high school studies. The methods involve a type of qualitative work. Data collection uses reduction techniques. The source of the data is the Manusia dan Badainya novel by Syahid Muhammad novel that released on 2022. The background is to identify healthy personality phenomena of the main character in the Manusia dan Badainya novel. The results of are that 13 physiological data found on the main character in the Manusia dan Badainya novel. There are consist of some details, the physiological needs eat and drink as 6 data, physiological needs of residence and rest are 3 data each of them, and the physiological needs of clothing as 1 data. The conclusion is the main character in the novel fulfill one of the requirements of a healthy personality according to maslow's theory of personality. A healthy personality consisting of the dominant physiological needs of the main character is the physiological needs of eating and drinking. This analysis has relevance to high school literature, especially at phase F in the free curriculum.

Abstract

This study discusses the persuasive art in the preaching utterances of Habib Husein Ja’far Al-Hadar on Deddy Corbuzier’s YouTube channel, particularly in the Log-in Season Episode, through a syntactic analysis based on Austin and Searle’s speech act theory. The purpose of this research is to describe the types of sentences used by Habib Ja’far in delivering persuasive messages an to explain the accompanying illocutionary function. The method used is qualitative with observastion and note taking techniques, in which verbal utterances are classified according to sentence types (declarative, imperative, prohibitive, and interrogative) and analyzed in relation to their pragmatic functions. The results of the study show that Habib Ja’far employs various syntactic structures to create strong persuasive effects. Declarative sentences are used to instill moral and spiritual values, imperative and prohibitive sentences serve to guide the audience’s behavior, while interroative sentences function to evoke the listener’s awareness through reflection. The combination of sentencesstructure and illocutinary meaning forms a preaching style that is gentle, logical, and emotional, making religious messages more easily accepted by diverse audience.

Abstract

  Abstract This study, entitled “Social Solidarity in Tere Liye’s Novel *Tanah Para Bandit: A Critical Discourse Analysis,”focuses on how language is used by Tere Liye to portray forms of social solidarity and power relations among the characters in the novel. The backgrounds of this research is based on the view that literary works do not merely serve as aesthetic media but also as mirrors of social reality rich in values, ideologies, and power relations. Through language, authors construct representations of social realities that reflect the dynamics between traditional and modern societies. To addres these issues, the study employ a qualitative descriptive approach using Émile Durkheim’s theory of social solidarity, which distinguishes between two types of solidarity mechanical and organic alongside Norman Fairclough’s Crittical Discoursse Analys (CDA) model, which encompasses three main dimensions: text (language), discourse practice (power), and social practice (social context). The findings reveal that language in the novel is strategically employed to construct two forms of social solidarity: mechanical solidarity, reflected in shared values, adherence to traditions, and the role of Abu Syik as a moral authority within society; and organic solidarity, manifested through cooperation, division of roles, and social awareness that arise from character interactions. Through deliberate word choices, distinctive speech styles, and powerful narration, Tere Liye presents a picture of social transformation from a traditional society toward a modern one that values collaboration, knowledge, and collective spirit. The novelty of this study lies in the applications of Durkheim’s social solidarity theory within the framework of Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, aiming to uncover the relationship between language, power, and social reality in modern Indonesian literature. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the character education discourse reflected through the main character, Enong, in the novel Padang Bulan by Andrea Hirata using F.W. Foerster's character education theory. The methodological approach employed is discourse analysis with descriptive qualitative methods. The research data consist of narrative excerpts and dialogues reflecting the character values of Enong, which are then classified based on Foerster's four main principles: orderliness (discipline), adherence to values (obedience to values), loyalty, and integrity of life (unity of life). The research findings indicate that the character education discourse in this novel is manifested through two main aspects: learning motivation and hard work. Learning motivation is reflected in Enong's enthusiasm for continuously pursuing knowledge, diligence in self-directed learning, and loyalty to her aspirations despite living in economic and social limitations. Meanwhile, the value of hard work is evident in Enong's persistence in bearing the family's economic burden, courage in taking on the role of a tin prospector, and resilience in facing failure without giving up. All four of Foerster's principles are consistently present in Enong's actions and words, demonstrating the integration of moral, intellectual, and social values. This study concludes that Andrea Hirata successfully constructs a humanistic character education discourse through the figure of Enong as a representation of a resilient, independent, and educated woman. These findings are relevant for use as literary teaching materials in character education learning in schools because they contain universal values such as discipline, responsibility, determination, and loyalty to one's aspirations.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the representation of local beliefs in modern Indonesian films shows a tendency to combine traditional elements with contemporary storytelling styles, but studies that specifically examine this combination through the perspective of magical realism are still limited. This study aims to reveal how the film Sumala  (2024) represents Javanese beliefs through three main elements of magical realism according to Wendy B. Faris, namely the irreducible element, merging realms, and disruptions of time, space, and identity. The study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data sources in the form of scenes, Dialogues, and visual symbols in the film. Data are analyzed through a process of reduction, classification, interpretation, and drawing conclusions based on the theory of magical realism and the concept of Javanese beliefs. The results show that Sumala presents magical objects, spiritual rituals, and human interactions with spirits as magical elements that are naturally accepted in the story world. This representation illustrates the Javanese view of life that emphasizes the balance between the rough universe and the subtle universe as an important part of the cosmological order. This study concludes that the magical elements in Sumala not only function as narrative aesthetics but also play an important role in preserving Javanese spiritual and cultural values. This finding has implications for strengthening film and cultural studies, particularly regarding the representation of local wisdom in modern Indonesian cinema.
