Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease where blood pressure is above the normal limit, namely systolic ≥140 mmHg and diastolic ≥90 mmHg. Hypertension is often known as the "silent killer" because it has no symptoms. This research aims to determine the effect of nutritional literacy through flipchart media on knowledge and adherence to a low-salt diet in hypertension sufferers. This research is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design approach. The intervention group was given nutritional literacy through flipchart media and the control group was only given leaflets. The results show a difference in the average post-test knowledge score between the intervention and control groups (p-value 0.000) and a difference in the average score for increasing sodium intake between the intervention group and the control group (p-value 0.017). After nutrition education with flipchart media, there was a difference in knowledge and salt intake between the intervention and control groups. The intervention group achieved higher knowledge and lower salt intake than the control group (p-value 0.05).

Abstract

Introduction: Uric acid the end product of purine catabolism in the human body. The cause of increased uric acid levels is influenced by various factors including alcohol, genetics, hypothyroidism, obesity, and a diet high in purines. Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by increased blood sugar, which is caused by an imbalance between blood supply and the need to increase glucose into cells to make it available for cell metabolism and growth. The decrease or absence of insulin makes glucose stuck in the blood and causes blood sugar to increase, while cells lack glucose which is needed for cell survival and function. Objective: To determine the relationship between blood uric acid and fasting blood sugar levels in the Academic Community of the Bengkulu Ministry of Health Polytechnic. Methods: The design of this study was observational with a cross sectional design. This research was conducted on May 8-19, 2023. Sampling in this research will be conducted at the Bengkulu Ministry of Health Polytechnic. Data collection techniques use secondary data. The data collected was then processed and analyzed using Univariate analysis to find out the average frequency distribution of each variable and a data normality test was performed between uric acid levels and fasting blood sugar levels, and bivariate analysis using the Pearson correlation test. Results: There was no significant relationship between uric acid levels and fasting blood sugar levels in the Academic Community of the Bengkulu Ministry of Health Polytechnic in 2022 (p=-0.051). There is no relationship between uric acid levels in men and women with fasting blood sugar levels of the Academic Community at the Bengkulu Ministry of Health Polytechnic in 2022 (p=0.872) and (p=0.470). Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between uric acid levels and fasting blood sugar levels in the Academic Community of the Bengkulu Ministry of Health Poltekkes in 2022.

Abstract

Child stunting is a global problem, including in Indonesia. The variation of stunting prevalence in Indonesia is very wide between provinces, but the interventions carried out tend to be the same. Variations in stunting prevalence at the stunting locus according to family, mother and child characteristics need to be known as an evidence based in planning appropriate intervention efforts. The study used a cross sectional design which aims to determine the variation in the proportion of stunting according to the characteristics of parents, families and children aged 6 – 24 months in South Central Timor District (TTS) and North Bengkulu District (BU). The research was conducted in June-November 2019. The population is all stunting children aged 6 – 24 months. The sample was selected by purposive sampling with inclusion criteria, namely stunting children, children aged 6 – 24 months, biological children, single births, no defects, and no comorbidities. The total sample was 120 stunting children aged 6 – 24 months, consisting of 60 stunting children in BU District and 60 stunting children in TTS District. The research instrument used a structured questionnaire. Data analysis used homogeneity test with chi square test. The results showed a high proportion of stunting in small families, while based on socio-economic heterogeneous families in both districts. In BU District, 30% of stunting children came from pre-prosperous families and 56.7% occurred in small families, while in TTS District all (100%) stunting children came from poor families and 65% from small families. The proportion of stunting was higher in mothers with normal height, age at the time of marriage 20 – 35 years, education of fathers and mothers were middle to high, mothers did not work, and fathers worked, children were born with normal weight, normal birth length, received breastmilk initiation, and exclusively breastfed. Stunting can occur in all families, so efforts are needed to improve family characteristics, parents and birth history to prevent stunting in Indonesia.

Abstract

Malnutrition in toddlers is a significant health problem, especially in the working area of the Jembatan Kecil Health Center, Bengkulu City, with a prevalence of 0.8%. Factors such as limited access to health services, minimal nutrition education, and family economic conditions also affect this problem. The impact of malnutrition is very large, affecting children's physical health and cognitive development. The purpose of this service is to improve the nutritional status of toddlers and pregnant women in SEZs through assistance and provision of supplementary food (PMT). The method used is a comprehensive nutrition intervention approach, targeting undernourished toddlers aged 6-60 months and pregnant women with KEK. The activity began with village community deliberations (MMD) and continued with the measurement of nutritional status and the provision of nutrition education and PMT. The assistance was carried out for 3 days, with monitoring of the nutritional development of toddlers and pregnant women. The results showed an average weight increase of 0.1 kg after PMT in the form of formula milk. Although the increase in maternal knowledge about nutrition is quite significant, there are challenges in the implementation of education due to attention disorders due to children's conditions. Nevertheless, education to pregnant women in SEZs has succeeded in increasing their knowledge about nutrition. In conclusion, mentoring and providing PMT in a targeted manner can improve the nutritional status of toddlers and parental awareness, although it requires continuous efforts in monitoring and education for more optimal results.

Abstract

The coverage of tuberculosis treatment in Bengkulu City is still far below the government's target. This is influenced by behavior. An example of media that can influence the behavior of consuming tuberculosis drugs is a medication reminder tool that has been added with brief information about consuming tuberculosis drugs. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of control cards to improve the behavior of consuming tuberculosis drugs. The design of this study was pre-test and post-test with control group. This study involved 60 tuberculosis patients selected using simple random sampling technique. The sample was divided into treatment group and control group, each consisting of 30 people. The intervention group received health promotion using a control card, and the control group received a leaflet. The behavior of consuming tuberculosis drugs was measured by filling out a questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using the Chi-Square Test, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney U Test, and ANCOVA. The results of the Mann-Whitney U test showed that the behavior of consuming tuberculosis drugs in patients using control cards was better than in patients using leaflets (p value = 0.007). The results of this study also showed that there were differences in the behavior of consuming tuberculosis drugs based on gender, education, and occupation, but did not differ based on age groups. Furthermore, it was concluded that the control card is an effective medium for increasing the behavior of consuming tuberculosis drugs. Keywords: tuberculosis; patients; behavior; tuberculosis drugs; control card ABSTRAK Cakupan pengobatan tuberkulosis di Kota Bengkulu masih jauh di bawah target pemerintah. Abstract

Background: The 2022 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey results show that the stunting rate reaches 21.6%, wasting 7.7%, and underweight 17.7%. Malnutrition problems in toddlers, especially those suffering from Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI), are often exacerbated by the provision of Complementary Feeding that does not meet nutritional standards. Therefore, greater attention to complementary feeding quality is essential to improving children's nutritional status and reducing the risk of ARI complications. Objective: To identify the relationship between the quality of complementary breastfeeding and nutritional conditions, such as underweight, wasting, and stunting, in children under two years of age suffering from ARI, as an urgent effort to address malnutrition problems and improve children's health in vulnerable communities. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with a target of toddlers aged 6-24 months who suffered from ARI, with a sample of 96 children. Data on complementary breastfeeding was collected through interviews using questionnaires, as well as weight measurements with digital scales and height with a lenghtboard. Statistical analysis using the Chi-square test. Results: Nutritional problems in two-year-old children with ISPA were found to be 44.8% underweight, 60.4% wasting, and 36.5% stunting. Complementary Feeding quality that did not meet the recommendations was significantly associated with the incidence of being underweight (p-value 0.035; OR 2.488), and wasting (p-value <0.0001; OR 6.657), but was not significantly associated with the incidence of stunting (p-value 0.95; OR 0.973).Conclusion: The quality of Complementary Feeding that does not meet nutritional standards in children with ARI is significantly related to the incidence of underweight and wasting.
