Abstract

Abstract

Iron Tablet Suplement (ITS) Consumption is expected to prevent anemia with increased hemoglobin levels. The 2023 Indonesian Health Survey report shows that 27.7% of pregnant women in Indonesia experience anemia which will have an impact on pregnancy and childbirth complications. The study aims to determine the effect of ITS consumption on increasing hemoglobin levels in anemia pregnant women, so that it can prevent complications of pregnancy, childbirth and the birth of stunted babies. This study uses meta-analysis using the random effect model method. Articles accessed from Google Scholar and PubMed databases. The selection of articles used the PICOTS framework, which included the population of pregnant women, ITS consumption interventions, comparison with the control group that did not consume ITS, the outcome of increasing hemoglobin levels, and the research design in the form of a quasi-experimental study. The inclusion criteria are research articles published in 2010–2022, using a quasi-experimental design, full text available, and mean difference data available. The search used the keywords "iron tablet" AND "hemoglobin" OR "anemic pregnant women" and "Fe tablets" OR "hemoglobin" OR "anemia in pregnant women". The selection process is presented in the PRISMA diagram, 10 eligible articles were obtained. Data analysis using Review Manager application 5.4. The forest plot showed that the pooled mean difference was significant (MD = 1.87: 1.29-2.44; p<0.00001; I² = 96%), then it can be concluded that the consumption of Blood Supplement Tablets significantly increases hemoglobin levels in anemia pregnant women by an average of 1.87 g/dl. The plot funnel shows the standard error of the left plot between 0.1-0.3 while the standard error of the right plot is 0.1-2.9 which shows an almost symmetrical distribution of research where the distribution of points is almost balanced between the left and right sides of the centerline, meaning that there is no publication bias. Consumption of Blood Supplement Tablets is effective in increasing hemoglobin levels in anemia pregnant women, it is recommended to ensure the appropriate dose (60 mg of iron per day), increase compliance through community-based education programs, regular mentoring, the use of reminders, and health policies that facilitate access to ITS for pregnant women, accompanied by regular examinations and distribution at health facilities.

Abstract

Preeclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy disorder characterized by hypertension, edema, and proteinuria. Preeclampsia remains one of the main causes of maternal death in Indonesia. Preeclampsia can cause stunting of fetal growth because of unbalanced nutrition. Preeclampsia can result in insufficient blood flow to the placenta, reducing the intake of nutrients and oxygen by the fetus, which affects its weight. The long-term impact is that infants may have low birth weights (LBW). This study aimed to determine the estimated combined effect of preeclampsia in pregnant women and the incidence of LBW. This study used a meta-analysis method to analyze articles from Google Scholar using the following criteria: published between 2012 and 2024, full-text availability, case-control or cross-sectional studies, multivariate analysis, and reported odds ratios (OR). Articles were collected using the PRISMA diagram and analyzed using Review Manager 5.4 application with a random-effects analysis model. This study analyzed 36 cross-sectional results (OR 95% CI: 2.16; 1.51–3.08) and 22 case-control results (OR 95% CI: 3.15; 1.76–5.64), showing a significant association between preeclampsia in pregnant women and the incidence of low birth weight in infants (p-value < 0.00001, which is < 0.05). Pregnant women with high levels of preeclampsia were at a higher risk of giving birth to infants with low birth weight (odds ratio [OR 95% CI: 4.66; 1.76–12.31, p-value < 0.00001).

Abstract

Background: According to research, Indonesia faces challenges as a result of a low level of knowledge of adolescent reproductive health (ARH) due to limited exposure to information media. Access to information and knowledge among adolescents influences their risky behaviors towards ARH. This quantitative and cross-sectional study aims to examine the relationship between ARH behaviors and access to information and knowledge among unmarried Indonesian adolescents aged between 10 and 24, both male and female. This study collected secondary data from the 2019 Program Performance and Accountability Survey (PPAS). The independent variables were access to information and knowledge about ARH, whereas the dependent variables were ARH behaviors. In addition, the confounding variables were adolescent characteristics (i.e., age, gender, and level of education) and family characteristics (i.e., social economy and location of residence).Method: The data were analyzed using a multivariate logistic regression statistical test. Results: The findings revealed a significant relationship between ARH behaviors and access to information about ARH from various information media (p-value = 0.001) as well as between ARH behaviors and knowledge of ARH (p-value = 0.001). The findings suggested that health promotion for ARH should be enhanced by providing access to information from various social media commonly used by adolescents, which can increase knowledge about ARH and influence adolescent behaviors toward good reproductive health.

Abstract

Background: From pregnancy, until the child is two years old, it is a prone period for stunting due to inadequate nutritional care at the family level. Mothers' ability in parenting and child health will affect their nutritional status and health, especially mothers who have stunted children. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of specific nutrition assistance (SNA) through empowering cadres to change the behavior (knowledge, attitudes, practices) of mothers who have stunted children aged 6-24 months.Method: The research used a quasi-experiment with pre-post design with a control group. The research was conducted in Bengkulu Utara (BU) District and Timur Tengah Selatan (TTS) District. The intervention group received SNA for six months (June-November 2019) by Posyandu cadres and health workers. The control group received standard services from the Health Center or the Posyandu. Whilst, the intervention group received nutrition and health counseling during home visits. Mothers' knowledge, attitudes, and practices in parenting and child health nutrition were measured as dependent variables. Sample of 120 mothers with stunted children aged 6-24 months. Data analysis used independent t-test and dependent t-test.Results: The SNA was effective in increasing the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of mothers. The increased knowledge, attitudes, and practices were higher in the intervention group both in BU District (116%) and TTS District (26.33%). In BU District, there was an increase in knowledge (116%), attitude (40%), and practices (20.07%), likewise in TTS District; there was an increase in knowledge (26.33%), attitudes (42.5%), and practices (22.15%) which are significantly different from the increase in the practices of the control group. SNA needs to be carried out continuously to increase mothers' ability in parenting and child health. Therefore, that stunted children can catch up with their height growth.

Abstract

The comprehension of the Toddler Family Development (TFD) Program among families in Indonesia remains limited, likely due to insufficient access to information and low participation rates. Limited participation can negatively affect a family’s ability to support optimal child growth and development. This study examined the relationship between access to information on the TFD Program and family participation in child growth and development. Using secondary data from the 2019 Program Performance and Accountability Survey in Indonesia, the cross-sectional analysis included 21,497 respondents. The results revealed an association between access to information on the TFD Program and family participation in child growth and development (OR: 1.53; 95% CI: 1.34–1.75). Families with limited access to TFD program information were 1.5 times more likely not to engage in child growth and development and parenting activities. Engaging in the TFD Program can help parents with the better growth and development of their children under the age of five.

Abstract

Infant's survival in Indonesia is still low, as showed by the highest IMR level in ASEAN, intermediate rock condition and highly varied. This research's aim is to describe infant's survival in Indonesia's urban and rural area, also various factors related. This research is using SDKI 2002-2003 data. Sample's amount 11,588 infant, consist of 4,769 infant in urban and 6,819 infant in rural. Method of analysis used in this study is life table and cox regression. This research found probability infant's survival in urban (98.59%) higher than in rural (97.54%) and infant's mortality proportion in rural is twice higher than in urban. On first month age (neonatal mortality) infant's survival time probability was decline, and for higher age infant's survival time probability is still low, but not as low as the first month age. In urban area, infant's survival time probability is even lower than in rural. There are determinant factors which are related to infant's survival in rural and urban. In urban, factors which are related to infant's survival are birth weight, breast feeding period and birth assistance. Meanwhile in rural area, the factors of are antenatal care, birth weight, birth assistance, birth queue number, breast feeding period and bearing place. Infant condition when the baby born is determinant factors which is related significantly with infant's survival, first breast feeding period is dominant factor which is related with infant's survival.
