Abstract

Di Indonesia, cakupan suplementasi vitamin A masih relatif rendah (76,68%). Kesimpulan: Literasi gizi melalui penggunaan dompet efektif dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan dan sikap ibu terhadap suplementasi vitamin A dan berpotensi mendukung keberhasilan program vitamin A di masyarakat.KATA KUNCI: balita, literasi gizi, vitamin AABSTRACTIntroduction:  Vitamin A is essential for growth and the body’s resistance to disease. Its deficiency can lead to preventable blindness and increase morbidity and mortality rates, especially among toddlers. In Indonesia, the coverage of vitamin A supplementation remains relatively low (76.68%), and in Bengkulu Province, the lowest prevalence of vitamin A deficiency is found in the city. Approximately 10–15% of Indonesian children under the age of five suffer from vitamin A deficiency. Methods: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of nutritional literacy using a pocketbook on mothers' knowledge and attitudes regarding vitamin A supplementation for toddlers. The research used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 60 mothers (30 in the intervention group and 30 in the control group), selected purposively from 772 parents attending the Posyandu (integrated health service post) in the Sawah Lebar Community Health Center area in May 2024. Data was collected via pre- and post-intervention questionnaires, then analyzed using chi-square and multivariate logistic regression tests. Results:  The results showed a significant improvement in knowledge and attitudes in both groups after the intervention (p = 0.000), although the difference between the groups was not statistically significant. The intervention group that used the pocketbook demonstrated a slightly higher average increase in knowledge and attitudes. Conclusion:  Nutritional literacy through the use of pocketbooks is effective in improving maternal knowledge and attitudes toward vitamin A supplementation and has the potential to support the success of vitamin A programs in the community.KEYWORDS:  nutritional literacy, toddlers, vitamin A

Abstract

The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding for infants in Indonesia still needs to be higher compared to the national target (80%). Low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding is a risk factor for various nutritional problems in toddlers. The causes of failure of exclusive breastfeeding are multifactorial, including risky pregnancy. This study aims to determine the association of risky pregnancies with the failure of exclusive breastfeeding using national data from the 2017 Indonesian Health Demographic Survey (IDHS) with a cross-sectional design. The study sample that met the criteria was 6,689 mothers with children aged 6-23 months. The independent variable is risky pregnancy (parity, pregnancy spacing, age during pregnancy), and the dependent variable is the failure of exclusive breastfeeding. Data analysis using multivariate logistic regression. The results found that only 26.2% of exclusive breastfeeding practices. Risky pregnancy is associated with the failure of exclusive breastfeeding. Mothers with too much parity risked 1,195 times, mothers with primiparous parity risked 1,716 times, too close birth spacing risked 1,210 times, and too young mothers were 1,267 times more likely not to exclusively breastfeed than mothers who had normal pregnancies after controlling for the area of residence. It is necessary to improve health promotion programs to the public regarding the importance of offering exclusive breastfeeding to infants and improving fertility characteristics.

Abstract

Proper complementary feeding for children aged 6–24 months is essential to meet nutritional needs beyond breast milk. Maternal nutrition literacy plays an important role in improving knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to providing local complementary feeding. This study aimed to analyze the effect of an “Isi Piringku”-based nutrition literacy intervention delivered through educational flyers on maternal knowledge, attitudes, and practices in providing local food-based complementary feeding for children aged 6–24 months. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group approach. The research was conducted in the working area of Sawah Lebar Health Center, Bengkulu City, from May to June 2024. A total of 60 mothers with children aged 6–24 months were selected through purposive sampling and divided into an intervention group (n=30), which received educational flyers, and a control group (n=30), which received leaflets. Data on knowledge, attitudes, and practices were collected using structured questionnaires before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann-Whitney U Test at a 0.05 significance level. Results showed significant improvements in knowledge, attitudes, and practices in both groups after the intervention (p<0.05). However, the intervention group demonstrated significantly higher post-test scores compared to the control group across all variables. Educational flyers were more effective in enhancing maternal nutrition literacy and improving local complementary feeding practices and can be recommended as a community-based nutrition education strategy.

Abstract

The problem of stunting in Indonesia is still high, with a prevalence between 17.6% and 42.6%, especially in 3T (Disadvantaged, Remote, and Outermost) areas such as Bengkulu and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). One of the main obstacles is the limited tools to detect stunting risk and the lack of maternal role in prevention. For this reason, the One House One Stunting Risk Detection Measuring Tool (ALKURTING) intervention was developed. The study used a quasi-experimental design involving 120 clown mothers from Kupang Regency, NTT, and Kepahyang Regency, Bengkulu. Samples were selected using purposive sampling. Inclusion criteria include mothers aged 20-40 years, who live in the local area and can read and write, and children who do not have comorbidities. The instruments used were questionnaires, feasibility test forms, and forms for filling out anthropometric survey results. Data analysis through feasibility tests and intervention effectiveness tests. The feasibility test showed that ALKURTING was very good, with a percentage of media feasibility of 86.8% and material feasibility of 83.3%, meaning that almost all mothers recommended ALKURTING users. The 1 house 1 ALKURTING intervention effectively increased the score of knowledge, attitudes, and skills of clown mothers in Kepahyang and Kupang Regency (p-value<0.05). ALKURTING is a tool suitable for detecting stunting risk in 3T areas. The One House One ALKURTING intervention is effective in improving maternal behavior in detecting stunting risk. It is necessary to expand the intervention to other 3T areas in Indonesia.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The stunting rate in Indonesia continues to show a significant decline, from 27.7% in 2019 to 19.8% in 2024. However, disparities remain between regions, with high prevalence in several provinces. One contributing factor is the low knowledge and skills of parents and integrated health post (Posyandu) cadres in meeting children's nutritional needs, particularly in processing local food ingredients for supplementary feeding (PMT). Training and mentoring in the use of local food ingredients is an effective strategy to improve these skills while encouraging family food self-sufficiency. By optimizing the abundant potential of local food, this activity is expected to strengthen the role of communities in sustainable stunting prevention and management efforts in Indonesia. Increasing the knowledge and skills of parents and integrated health post (posyandu) cadres in processing local food ingredients into recovery PMT for stunted children and supporting the fulfillment of toddler nutrition independently and sustainably, as well as contributing to reducing the prevalence of stunting at the family and community level. Activities in the form of training, mentoring and competitions to create local food menus for stunted children. 90-day PMT training and mentoring activities showed results for 4 toddlers with normal weight, 2 toddlers at risk of overnutrition, and 2 toddlers with malnutrition. One toddler with an infectious disease was referred to the hospital. Training and mentoring on the use of local food ingredients effectively increases the knowledge, skills, and independence of parents and cadres in preparing nutritionally balanced PMT for stunted children. This activity significantly contributes to improving children's nutritional status and accelerating the reduction of stunting rates in the community. Keywords: Training, Mentoring, Cadres, Parents, PMT, Local Food Ingredients, Stunting.

Abstract

Background: The 2022 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey results show that the stunting rate reaches 21.6%, wasting 7.7%, and underweight 17.7%. Malnutrition problems in toddlers, especially those suffering from Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI), are often exacerbated by the provision of Complementary Feeding that does not meet nutritional standards. Therefore, greater attention to complementary feeding quality is essential to improving children's nutritional status and reducing the risk of ARI complications. Objective: To identify the relationship between the quality of complementary breastfeeding and nutritional conditions, such as underweight, wasting, and stunting, in children under two years of age suffering from ARI, as an urgent effort to address malnutrition problems and improve children's health in vulnerable communities. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with a target of toddlers aged 6-24 months who suffered from ARI, with a sample of 96 children. Data on complementary breastfeeding was collected through interviews using questionnaires, as well as weight measurements with digital scales and height with a lenghtboard. Statistical analysis using the Chi-square test. Results: Nutritional problems in two-year-old children with ISPA were found to be 44.8% underweight, 60.4% wasting, and 36.5% stunting. Complementary Feeding quality that did not meet the recommendations was significantly associated with the incidence of being underweight (p-value 0.035; OR 2.488), and wasting (p-value <0.0001; OR 6.657), but was not significantly associated with the incidence of stunting (p-value 0.95; OR 0.973).Conclusion: The quality of Complementary Feeding that does not meet nutritional standards in children with ARI is significantly related to the incidence of underweight and wasting.

Abstract

Iron Tablet Suplement (ITS) Consumption is expected to prevent anemia with increased hemoglobin levels. The 2023 Indonesian Health Survey report shows that 27.7% of pregnant women in Indonesia experience anemia which will have an impact on pregnancy and childbirth complications. The study aims to determine the effect of ITS consumption on increasing hemoglobin levels in anemia pregnant women, so that it can prevent complications of pregnancy, childbirth and the birth of stunted babies. This study uses meta-analysis using the random effect model method. Articles accessed from Google Scholar and PubMed databases. The selection of articles used the PICOTS framework, which included the population of pregnant women, ITS consumption interventions, comparison with the control group that did not consume ITS, the outcome of increasing hemoglobin levels, and the research design in the form of a quasi-experimental study. The inclusion criteria are research articles published in 2010–2022, using a quasi-experimental design, full text available, and mean difference data available. The search used the keywords "iron tablet" AND "hemoglobin" OR "anemic pregnant women" and "Fe tablets" OR "hemoglobin" OR "anemia in pregnant women". The selection process is presented in the PRISMA diagram, 10 eligible articles were obtained. Data analysis using Review Manager application 5.4. The forest plot showed that the pooled mean difference was significant (MD = 1.87: 1.29-2.44; p<0.00001; I² = 96%), then it can be concluded that the consumption of Blood Supplement Tablets significantly increases hemoglobin levels in anemia pregnant women by an average of 1.87 g/dl. The plot funnel shows the standard error of the left plot between 0.1-0.3 while the standard error of the right plot is 0.1-2.9 which shows an almost symmetrical distribution of research where the distribution of points is almost balanced between the left and right sides of the centerline, meaning that there is no publication bias. Consumption of Blood Supplement Tablets is effective in increasing hemoglobin levels in anemia pregnant women, it is recommended to ensure the appropriate dose (60 mg of iron per day), increase compliance through community-based education programs, regular mentoring, the use of reminders, and health policies that facilitate access to ITS for pregnant women, accompanied by regular examinations and distribution at health facilities.

Abstract

Background: According to research, Indonesia faces challenges as a result of a low level of knowledge of adolescent reproductive health (ARH) due to limited exposure to information media. Access to information and knowledge among adolescents influences their risky behaviors towards ARH. This quantitative and cross-sectional study aims to examine the relationship between ARH behaviors and access to information and knowledge among unmarried Indonesian adolescents aged between 10 and 24, both male and female. This study collected secondary data from the 2019 Program Performance and Accountability Survey (PPAS). The independent variables were access to information and knowledge about ARH, whereas the dependent variables were ARH behaviors. In addition, the confounding variables were adolescent characteristics (i.e., age, gender, and level of education) and family characteristics (i.e., social economy and location of residence).Method: The data were analyzed using a multivariate logistic regression statistical test. Results: The findings revealed a significant relationship between ARH behaviors and access to information about ARH from various information media (p-value = 0.001) as well as between ARH behaviors and knowledge of ARH (p-value = 0.001). The findings suggested that health promotion for ARH should be enhanced by providing access to information from various social media commonly used by adolescents, which can increase knowledge about ARH and influence adolescent behaviors toward good reproductive health.
