Abstract

Obesity is a condition with excess body fat due to an imbalance in energy intake consumed more than the physical activity expended. Adolescents who are obese can increase the risk of degenerative diseases. This study aimed to determine the relationship between macronutrients, including carbohydrate, protein, and fat intake, and obesity in adolescents. This study uses a meta-analysis method. Articles were taken from Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct databases. The articles analyzed were articles published from 2000 – 2022, full text; the keywords used for the search were "carbohydrate”, "protein”, "fat”, "obesity, and "adolescents”. The articles were collected using PRISMA diagram and analyzed by Review Manager Application 5.4. With the fixed effect model and random effect model. From the results of this study, seven articles were identified. The results of the forest plot show the relationship between carbohydrate intake and obesity in adolescents, p-value < 0.001; OR = 2.58, protein intake with obesity in adolescents obtained p-value = 0.02; OR = 2.92, and fat intake with obesity in adolescents obtained p-value < 0.001; OR = 6.20. The conclusion of this study shows that the variables of carbohydrate, protein, and fat intake have a significant relationship with obesity in adolescents.

Abstract

The high prevalence of stunting is caused by poor parenting. Data from the Health Profile of Bengkulu Province in 2019 showed that as many as 700 toddlers experienced stunting in Seluma Regency, and as many as 35 cases of toddlers experienced stunting in the working area of the Babatan Health Center. This study aims to obtain an overview of the parenting pattern of stunting in Air Petai Village, Sukaraja District, Seluma Regency. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Sources of data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observation, and document review. The informants of this study consisted of the main informants, namely 6 mothers with stunting toddlers, and 2 supporting informants, namely the Posyandu Cadre in Air Petai Village and nutrition practitioners (TPG) at the Babatan Health Center. The results showed that early initiation of breastfeeding was not applied to all toddlers. Some informants do not breastfeed until the child is 2 years old. The informant thought that if breast milk was given until the age of 2 years, it would be difficult to do weaning. Some informants often forget to wash their hands before feeding their children because they are busy taking care of the household. Health workers and Posyandu cadres hoped can carry out health promotions to mothers in Air Petai Village regarding good parenting, especially to pregnant and lactating women.

Abstract

Background: The direct cause of stunting in toddlers is nutritional intake, one of which is because babies do not receive exclusive breastfeeding for up to 6 months. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to measure the effect of exclusive breastfeeding on stunting prevention through a meta-analysis approach. Methods: This study uses a meta-analysis approach by searching for research articles from various databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct. The keywords used are by the Medical Subject Heading (MeSH), namely "exclusive breastfeeding", "stunting", "infant", "exclusive breastfeeding", "linear growth disorder", and "stunted toddlers". The criteria for the article are publications from 2013 to 2021, can be downloaded in full text, using a cross-sectional and case-control study design, and effect size data is available in the form of Odds Ratio (OR). The process of submitting articles is presented in a PRISMA diagram. Data analysis using the Review Manager 5.4.1 application with a random effect analysis model. Presentation results in the form of forest plots and funnel plots. Discussions: 26 research articles are worthy of analysis, consisting of 9 from international journals and 17 from national journals. The Heterogeneity test results showed a p-value of 0.00001 and an I2 value of 85%. The results of the analysis with a random effect model were obtained from the forest plot which showed a pooled Odds Ratio of 2.90 (95% CI: 2.07-4.08), meaning that babies who did not receive exclusive breastfeeding had a 2.9 times higher risk of stunting compared to babies who received exclusive breastfeeding. These findings show a significant influence of non-exclusive breastfeeding on the incidence of stunting (p-value 0.0001 < 0.05). Conclusions: Exclusive breastfeeding can effectively prevent stunting.
