Abstract

The marketization of higher education has intensified competition among private universities, particularly in emerging economies such as Indonesia. In this context, higher education institutions must strengthen internal capabilities to improve marketing performance. This study examines the effects of marketing capability and innovation capability on marketing performance in Indonesian private higher education institutions, with brand equity and competitive advantage considered as mediating mechanisms. Drawing on the Resource-Based View, a quantitative approach was employed using survey data collected from  marketing-related personnel across private universities in Indonesia. The proposed model was tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that innovation capability significantly enhances brand equity and competitive advantage, while marketing capability positively influences only competitive advantage. Brand equity has a strong positive effect on marketing performance, whereas competitive advantage does not exert a direct effect. Overall, the results suggest that marketing performance in higher education is driven primarily by brand-related assets rather than competitive advantage alone. This study contributes to higher education marketing literature by clarifying how organizational capabilities are translated into market outcomes and offers practical insights for institutional leaders seeking to enhance competitiveness through integrated branding and capability-based strategies.

The performance of human resources in the health sector still show problems with the quality of work results. Beside, the challenges ahead are getting tougher, especially in facing global diseases and technological advances. This study aims to examine the influence of competence and organizational culture on employee performance mediated by organizational commitment. The research method uses a quantitative approach with 104 employees as respondents at the Demak Regency Health Office, Central Java, Indonesia. Survey data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, multiple linear regression, path analysis, and the Sobel test. The findings revealed that competence and organizational culture have a positive effect on organizational commitment. However, the opposite result is that competence does not have a significant effect on employee performance, while organizational culture and organizational commitment have been shown to contribute positively. The conclusion states that competence and organizational culture have been proven to be determinant factors for employee performance, with organizational commitment acting as an intervening variable. The managerial implication is that the application of organizational culture values including professionalism, accountability, enthusiasm, non-discrimination, and integrity should continue to be improved.

Abstract

This study examines labor market vulnerability in Central Java with a focus on job loss risk, post-layoff transitions, and job quality after recovery from shocks in labor-intensive industries. Using data from the August 2024 Sakernas survey and applying probit and Heckman selection models, the analysis reveals that shocks have multidimensional impacts. Workers in manufacturing are more exposed to job loss compared to those in agriculture, while service sector workers are relatively more protected. Spatial patterns indicate that neighboring regencies of the shock epicenter (shock_sritex) face lower risks of layoffs, yet sectoral linkages heighten the vulnerability of workers in supporting industries such as trade and transportation. Post-layoff transitions show that most workers return through informal employment, reflecting the limited absorptive capacity of the formal sector. In terms of job quality, informal workers are more likely to earn below the minimum wage and to experience excessive working hours, indicating a scarring effect. Conversely, higher education and union membership are protective, increasing the chances of obtaining decent wages. These findings highlight the importance of integrated labor market policies that strengthen industry-based training, ensure wage protection, enforce working time regulations, and enhance cross-regional coordination to sustain employment in the aftermath of industrial shocks.
