Abstract

This study aims to develop a science learning module based on the Manongkah Kerang tradition that is valid and practical for use in the learning process. The research method used in this study is Research and Development (RD), referring to the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation). The results of expert evaluations including content, pedagogy, and media experts indicate that the science learning module based on the Menongkah Kerang tradition falls into the very valid category, with an overall average score of 3.78. The student practicality test yielded a score of 3.80, categorized as very practical, while the teacher practicality test scored 3.82, also categorized as very practical. These findings demonstrate that the science learning module based on the Menongkah Kerang tradition is both valid and very practical for classroom use.

Abstract

Macrofungi play an important role in maintaining ecosystem balance as decomposers, food sources, and indicators of environmental quality. The oil palm plantation of PT Inecda Plantation Seberida provides abundant organic matter, creating favorable conditions for the growth of various macrofungal species. This study aimed to identify the species of macrofungi and analyze their diversity in the oil palm plantation area of PT Inecda Plantation Seberida, Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau Province. The research employed a quantitative descriptive approach using survey methods and purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through direct field observations, morphological identification of macrofungi, and analyses of the Shannon–Wiener diversity index, evenness index, and dominance index. The results revealed the presence of 22 macrofungal species belonging to the phyla Basidiomycota and Ascomycota, as well as one species from the Myxomycota group. The diversity index (H') ranged from 1.68 to 2.18, indicating a moderate level of diversity, while the evenness index ranged from 0.54 to 0.71 and the dominance index ranged from 0.14 to 0.25, suggesting the absence of any significantly dominant species. Environmental conditions at the study site were generally favorable for macrofungal growth. Most of the identified macrofungi functioned as decomposers, several species had potential as food sources, and one species was identified as a potential pathogen of oil palm plants.

Abstract

Genetic literacy is an essential component of scientific literacy that enables students to understand genetic concepts and make evidence-based decisions. However, the level of genetic literacy among Indonesian high school students remains relatively low, particularly in the topic of heredity patterns, which is often taught theoretically and lacks connections to real-world issues. This study aimed to develop a Student Worksheet (LKPD) based on contextual issues in heredity patterns to strengthen the genetic literacy of senior high school students. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, implemented up to the development stage. The product was validated by subject matter experts and media experts and subsequently tested through limited trials involving 10 Biology Education students and 43 senior high school students. Data were analyzed descriptively using a Likert scale. The results showed that the developed LKPD achieved a media expert validation score of 3.8 and a subject matter expert validation score of 3.9, both categorized as highly valid. The limited trial results obtained an average score of 3.6, categorized as very good. Overall, the contextual issue-based LKPD achieved an average quality score of 3.7, categorized as very good, indicating that it is suitable for use as a learning resource to support genetics instruction in senior high schools.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen the capacity of school learning communities through technical assistance in developing environmentally friendly ecobrick-based literacy gardens, utilizing the Pulau Bungin Urban Forest as an ecoedupark, and implementing deep learning-based instruction. The learning communities, consisting of elementary and junior high school teachers and principals organized in the Teachers' Working Group (KKG) and Principals' Working Group (K3S), were assisted through four stages comprising training, field practice, mentoring, and the development of contextual environment-based learning. The mentoring program was conducted over 32 instructional hours across eight sessions. The results strengthened the pedagogical and professional competencies of the learning communities in environmental management, optimizing the use of the Pulau Bungin Urban Forest as an ecoedupark, and designing contextual deep learning-based instruction. The program also facilitated the transfer of university research outcomes and appropriate educational technology to the community through the development of literacy gardens, ecobrick innovation, QR code-based plant identification as a simple educational technology, and strengthened collaboration among learning communities, thereby enhancing community capacity for sustainable environmental management. Integrating the program outcomes into deep learning-based instruction further enhanced teachers' competencies in developing contextual learning based on local environmental potential. The program also strengthened collaboration among universities, local government, and schools in environmental management. As a follow-up, the program fostered independent and collaborative learning communities that serve as role models for implementing environment-based learning and promoting sustainable community empowerment.

Abstract

Abstract. Dahlia, Suryawati E, Zulfarina, Wulandari S. 2026. Diversity of medicinal plants from local traditions in Rokan Hulu District, Riau Province, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 27 (6): d270624. https://doi.org/10.13057/biodiv/d270624. Plant diversity in Rokan Hulu has given rise to a rich body of local wisdom. This indigenous knowledge includes the use of plants as traditional medicines, a practice that has persisted into the present century. Local knowledge plays a crucial role in plant conservation; however, it remains poorly documented, leading to the gradual erosion of these cultural practices. This study aims to identify the diversity of medicinal plant species and their uses, as well as to calculate key ethnobotanical indices, including use value (UV), plant part value (PPV), and fidelity level (FL). A qualitative approach was employed to describe medicinal plant species, methods of preparation and use, plant parts utilized, and types of ailments treated. Quantitative methods were applied to assess the relative importance of medicinal plants. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 210 respondents selected through snowball sampling. A total of 178 medicinal plant species belonging to 63 families were recorded, with Zingiberaceae contributing the highest number of species (14 species). Herbaceous plants dominated the recorded species (32.58%). The highest UV was recorded for Curcuma longa (0.786), while the highest FL was observed for Hibiscus × rosa-sinensis (91.7%). Leaves were the most frequently used plant part (49.95%), as they are generally more abundant than other organs. Decoction was the most common method of preparation (50.6%), as local communities believe that boiling facilitates faster extraction of bioactive compounds and provides a safer preparation by eliminating pathogens. Oral administration (drinking) was the most prevalent mode of use (61.3%), as it is considered to enhance the absorption of active compounds by the body and is easier to apply.
