Abstract

This review examines the Korean drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which narrates the life of Woo Young-Woo, a lawyer with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The series portrays the unique challenges and abilities of individuals with ASD, combining social difficulties and limited empathy with exceptional memory and intelligence. The drama seeks to inspire audiences by illustrating Woo's journey towards independence while confronting societal stigma and prejudice. The objective of this review is to critically analyse the portrayal of ASD in the series, highlighting its role in shaping public perception and fostering greater understanding and empathy for individuals with autism. The data collection involved document analysis, including a detailed review of the drama’s episodes and a literature review on autism representation in media. This method enabled a comparison of the series' portrayal with existing studies and established characteristics of ASD. The analysis focused on the authenticity and sensitivity of the depiction, its adherence to or deviation from ASD traits, and its impact on public perceptions. The findings reveal that Extraordinary Attorney Woo successfully challenges stereotypes, promotes awareness, and provides an authentic representation of ASD. The drama emphasizes neurodiversity while showcasing the challenges and triumphs of individuals with autism. However, some dramatizations of ASD traits for narrative purposes were noted, highlighting the need for careful balance in future portrayals. In conclusion, Extraordinary Attorney Woo is a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and understanding. Recommendations include further collaboration with experts to ensure accuracy and continued focus on breaking stereotypes in media representations of autism.

Abstract

This study explores the core themes of friendship, family, and love in the South Korean television drama Reply 1988. As part of the acclaimed “Reply” series, Reply 1988 revisits the late 1980s in a Seoul neighbourhood, presenting deeply personal and social dynamics through the everyday lives of five families. The objective of this research is to analyse how the drama portrays emotional and cultural values, especially emphasizing the interplay between communal living, generational understanding, and interpersonal affection. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this study employs content analysis by observing narrative structures, character development, and key dialogues within the 20-episode series. Through close reading and thematic categorization, the study identifies motifs such as sacrifice, loyalty, unspoken affection, and the warmth of familial bonds. The analysis reveals that Reply 1988 effectively humanizes historical nostalgia, portraying the 1980s as a period of sincere social interaction and collective identity. The theme of friendship is illuminated through the enduring bond among the neighbourhood’s children, while family dynamics are shown through intergenerational respect and emotional dependence. Romantic love, subtle and often secondary, highlights the slow, realistic evolution of relationships. In conclusion, Reply 1988 transcends conventional melodrama by offering viewers a textured representation of Korean society through universal emotions. It serves not only as entertainment but also as cultural reflection, resonating with audiences globally through its sincere depiction of everyday life and timeless values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as part of digital marketing strategies to enhance online visibility in the hospitality industry. In response to rapid developments in digital technology, hospitality businesses are required to adapt to modern marketing practices that are more measurable and customer-oriented. One of the key strategies in this transformation is SEO, which plays a pivotal role in improving website rankings on search engine result pages, thereby attracting potential customers organically. This research employs a qualitative approach using data collection methods such as direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data sources include digital marketing personnel, analytics dashboards, and supporting literature. The primary focus is on evaluating how SEO initiatives—such as keyword optimization, content enrichment, and structural enhancements—contribute to measurable performance improvements. Abstract

This study explores the central role of speaking in second language acquisition (SLA), highlighting its importance in communication, intercultural interaction, and the development of communicative competence. The research aims to identify challenges learners face in developing oral proficiency and to evaluate pedagogical strategies that enhance speaking performance. Using a qualitative descriptive approach through document analysis, the study reviews applied linguistics and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) literature published between 2015 and 2024. Findings indicate that learners frequently encounter obstacles such as language anxiety, limited opportunities for authentic practice, inadequate exposure to real-life communication, and an overemphasis on reading and writing in educational contexts. These challenges restrict fluency, accuracy, and learners’ willingness to communicate. Nonetheless, several strategies have proven effective in improving speaking skills. These include task-based learning, communicative classroom activities, targeted pronunciation training, integration of digital tools, and anxiety-reducing techniques. Additionally, supportive learning environments and peer collaboration are shown to boost learners’ confidence and engagement. The study concludes that speaking instruction in SLA should adopt an integrated approach that combines linguistic, psychological, and sociocultural support. Through communicative and technology-enhanced strategies, educators can strengthen learners’ fluency, reduce speaking anxiety, and foster effective language acquisition.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the handling and procurement of food and beverage (F&B) products by the Purchasing Department at The Westin Resort Nusa. As a core operational area in the hospitality industry, efficient F&B management significantly influences guest satisfaction and operational costs. The objective of this research is to assess how the purchasing department manages supplier selection, procurement processes, stock monitoring, and coordination with the kitchen and F&B service teams to ensure product availability, quality, and cost-efficiency. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method, using interviews, observations, and documentation as primary data collection techniques. Interviews were conducted with key purchasing staff and F&B personnel to understand workflows, procurement standards, and challenges faced. Observations of daily procurement activities and stock handling were also carried out, along with document reviews including purchase orders, vendor records, and inventory reports. The analysis reveals that the purchasing department plays a pivotal role in maintaining the consistency of raw material quality while balancing cost-effectiveness. Key strengths include a well-established supplier network, digitalized procurement records, and adherence to hotel SOPs. However, challenges were found in managing fluctuating supply prices, occasional delays in delivery, and the need for stronger interdepartmental communication. The study concludes that while the purchasing system is generally effective, it requires continuous monitoring, vendor performance reviews, and integration with inventory systems to enhance real-time responsiveness. These improvements are crucial for sustaining high service standards in the resort’s F&B operations.
