Abstract

Penggugut (Knema pallens W.J. deWilde) is an endemic plant from Kalimantan belongs to Myristicaceae or the nutmeg family. Penggugut can be found in habitats like lowland forest, sandy forests and mangroves. The efficacy and activity of penggugut especially the leaves, have not been widely known or studied. So that make the purpose was to know about the percentage yield of extract and fraction from penggugut leaves and to know the activity of Radical Scavenging DPPH from penggugut leaves. The methods used include extraction, liquid-liquid fractination and TLC by spraying DPPH. The results there are percentage of yield : methanol extract is 8,04%, n-hexane fraction is 28,9%, ethyl acetate fraction is 7,83% and n-butanol fraction is 9,8%. In the qualitative test, it was found that the spots have activity of Radical Scavenging were marked with yellow spots on a purple background, there are in the methanol extract have 4 spots with Rf values (0,07; 0,14; 0,29; 0,43), the n-hexane fraction have 3 spots with Rf values ??(0,1; 0,21; 0,43), the ethyl acetate fraction have 5 spots with Rf values ??(0,07; 0,17; 0,29; 0,43; 0,53) and the n-butanol fraction did not get any spots.

Abstract

Karamunting leaves (Melastoma malabathricum L) have been widely used in traditional medicine due to various pharmacological activities related to its secondary metabolites, namely, flavonoids and tannins. The general objective of this research is to obtain the concentration of ethanol extract of karamunting leaves in a cream formulation that gives excellent physical properties and has antioxidant activity. The result showed extract antioxidant activity was in a very strong category with an IC50 value of 6,927 ppm. Cream with the best antioxidant activity in this study was F3 (3%) because it had the highest antioxidant activity in a strong category with an IC50 value of 60.38 ppm and had the best physical properties compared to F0 (negative control), F1 (1%), F2 (2%), and F4 (vitamin E). The freeze-thaw physical stability test showed that all formulas F0, F1, F2, F3, and F4 had good physical stability, namely, the physical properties did not differ significantly between before and after freeze-thaw for 5 cycles (p>0.05).

Abstract

Aromatherapy is therapy that uses aromatic compounds to treat, cut or prevent disease, infection, and anxiety by inhaling them. Citronella (Cymbopogon winterianus) and lemon (Citrus limon) have essential oils that work as aromatherapy. The aim of the study was to get aromatherapy candle preparations from essential oils of citronella and lemon. The research was carried out experimentally by making aromatherapy wax preparations from the formulation of stearic acid and paraffin wax with a ratio of 30%: 70% (F1), 40%: 60% (F2) , 50%: 50% (F3), 60%: 40% (F4), 70%: 30% (F5) and adding a combination of citronella essential oil and lemon essential oil in a ratio of 1%: 5% (A1), 2%: 4% (A2), 3%: 3% (A3), 4%: 2% (A4), 5%: 1% (A5), tests of physical stability were performed as burn time and melting point and determination of panellist’s preferences in the form of visual preference, candle aroma before combustion, candle aroma after combustion, detection of candle odor for the first time and perceived therapeutic effect. The best wax base is 60%: 40% (F4) and the best aromatherapy wax formulation is a combination of citronella essential oil and lemon essential oil 4%: 2% (A4) and 5% : 1% (A5) to produce a comfortable and pleasant therapeutic effect.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the antianemic activity of coconut haustorium (Cocos nucifera) waste against mice induced by sodium nitrite orally for 43 days. The condition of anemia was determined by calculating the hemoglobin level using the Point of Care Test (POCT) method with the easytouch® GCHb and the resulting Hb level was 7.96 ± 0.05 g/dL. After the anemia condition is achieved, the test treatment is given for 21 days by dividing the mice into four groups, each consisting of three mice. The blank group (I) was administered distilled water, the control group (II) was administered Inbion® supplements at a dose of 0.65 mg/20 g BW, groups III and IV were administered coconut haustorium filtrate at a dose of 5 and 15 g/kg, respectively. Then measured the hemoglobin level and the number of erythrocytes. Based on the results of the study, the average hemoglobin levels of the blank, control, I and II groups were 13,9; 15,4; 16,0; and 16.8 g / dL, respectively. The number of erythrocytes during anemia was 1,750,000 / mm3 and after giving coconut kentos was 8,260,000 / mm3. From this study it can be concluded that the highest anti-anemia activity showed by coconut haustorium waste filtrate at dose 15 g/kgBW and had a significant difference in hemoglobin levels (p <0.05) with the blank group.

Abstract

Papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) contain active compounds of flavonoids and alkaloids which have the function of reducing dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea is a condition that occurs at any time during menstruation that experiences pain or pain in the abdominal and pelvic area so it can interfere with activities and require treatment. This study aims to determine the effect of the effectiveness of offering papaya leaf herbal drink in reducing dysmenorrhea. The research design used in this study was a pre-experimental research design with a pre-experimental test design with accidental sampling technique. Measurement of pain intensity using pain scale measurements (Pre-Test) and final pain (Post-test using a numerical rating scale, time of incidence on the first and second day of menstruation (77%), location of lower abdominal dysmenorrhea (92%), symptoms of dysmenorrhea, namely abdominal pain (75%), moderate pain scale (48%)], and treatment was resting (63%). Based on the results of the study, subjects who were given a papaya leaf herbal drink were able to reduce the pain scale of dysmenorrhea with a large difference in pain scale reduction in the treatment group of chopped papaya leaf stew by 3,2.

Abstract

A known naphthalene, isoeleutherol (1), was isolated from the herb ofLygodium microphyllum. The chemical structure of 1 was determined on the basis of spectroscopic data mainly UV, IR, HRTOFMS, 1D-and 2D-NMR spectroscopy, aswell as by comparing with compounds previously reported. Isoeleutherol was isolated from this plant for the first timeand showed moderate antioxidant activity against DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) with IC50 value of 53.96 ± 2.87 μg/mL.
