Abstract

Hypertension and hypercholesterolemia are diseases whose prevalence is still relatively high in Indonesia. One of the provinces with the highest incidence of hypertension and hypercholesterolemia in Indonesia is East Kalimantan. Treatment and prevention of hypertension and hypercholesterolemia can be done modernly or traditionally. However, traditional treatment is considered cheaper and safer to use. One of the traditional efforts to prevent hypertension and hypercholesterolemia can be done by using family medicinal plants (TOGA). In order to be effective and efficient, prevention of hypertension and hypercholesterolemia must be equipped with sufficient knowledge. One source of knowledge is obtained from education about hypertension and hypercholesterolemia. Counseling is one part of community service activities. Therefore, this activity was carried out with the aim of increasing public awareness of hypertension and hypercholesterolemia, so that people can carry out treatment and prevention by utilizing potential plants around the house independently. This activity involved 40 people from Argo Mulyo Village, Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province. The results of this activity show that the community has increased knowledge related to hypertension and hypercholesterolemia as indicated by higher posttest results compared to the pretest. The community was also very enthusiastic and responded well during the counseling and demonstration on making empon (herbal drink).

Abstract

ABCTRACT Kolowe seed (Chydenanthus excelsus) bioactivity against Aedes aegypti masquito larvae was investegated. Assay of Kolowe seed preparation used fresh seed powder, dry powder, rough extract (methanol extract), n- butanol extract fraction, and aethyl acetate extract fraction. Plant material taken from Kamaru, Buton, Indonesia on March 2007. Fresh powder bioactivity (LC50 = 230.60 ppm); dry powder (LC50 = 225.55 ppm); rough extract/ methanol (LC50 = 245.70 ppm); n- butanol extract fraction (LC50 = 235.75 ppm); aethyl acetate extract fraction (LC50 = 250.55 ppm). The research results illustrated that the bioactivity seed from kolowe strong enough against mosquito larvae A. aegypti and dry powder has a stronger bioactivity than the other. Sediaan biji kolowe yang diuji adalah serbuk biji segar, serbuk kering, ekstrak kasar (ekstrak metanol), ekstrak fraksi n-butanol, dan ekstrak fraksi etilasestat. Bahan tumbuhan diambil dari Kamaru, Buton, Indonesia pada bulan Maret 2007. Bioaktivitas serbuk segar (LC50 = 230,60 ppm); serbuk kering (LC50 = 225,55 ppm); ekstrak kasar/metanol (LC50 = 245,70ppm); ekstrak fraksi n-butanol (LC50 = 235,75 ppm); ekstrak fraksi etilasetat (LC50 = 250,55 ppm). Hasil penelitian tersebut menggambarkan bahwa bioaktivitas biji kolowe cukup kuat terhadap larva nyamuk A. aegypti dan serbuk kering memiliki bioaktivitas lebih kuat dari lainnya. Abstract

ABSTRACT There is no new name for prime Medisinal plants which can be used to asses medicinal plants. Used of the term is done intuitively by decision makers of the management section or utilization of medicinal plants, which eventually became a name. The study is scientifically to determine the scientific criteria of prime medicinal plants has been done. The method used for the assessment is discussion with expert respondents using multiple methods of decision making. Respondents who used the expert academics and practitioners. Academics consists of expertise Natural Product chemistry, Natural Product Pharmaceuticals (Phamacognosy), Environmental Science, Forestry sciences, and Natural medicine industry. The result of the determination of criteria for assessment of scientific research prime plants found in five criteria (a) The diversity of usefulness / efficacy of a medicinal plant possessed (b) types of diseases can be cured by a medicinal plants (c) easy cultivation of medicinal plants (d) diversity of secondary metabolites content in a medicinal plant (e) type of organ or plant part used as medicine. The five criteria have been validated by using 9 kinds of herbs that have been deemed superior by the Indonesian Food and Drug Administration. Key words: Scientific criteria, prime medicinal plants, study ABSTRAK Istilah tumbuhan obat unggulan belum ada kriteria ilmiah yang dapat digunakan untuk menilai suatu tumbuhan obat. Penggunaan istilah tersebut dilakukan secara intuisi oleh pengambil keputusan dalam bidang pengelolaan atau pemanfaatan tumbuhan obat, yang akhirnya menjadi suatu istilah. Telah dilakukan pengkajian secara ilmiah untuk menentukan kriteria ilmiah tumbuhan obat unggulan. Metode yang digunakan untuk pengkajian tersebut adalah diskusi dengan responden ahli dengan memanfaatkan beberapa metode pengambilan keputusan. Responden ahli yang digunakan adalah akademisi dan praktisi. Akademisi terdiri dari keahlian Kimia Bahan Alam Hayati, Farmasi Bahan Alam (Farmakognosi), Ilmu Lingkungan, ilmu Kehutanan, dan pelaku industri obat alami. Hasil penelitian pengkajian penentuan kriteria ilmiah tumbuhan unggulan ditemukan lima kriteria yaitu (a) Keragaman kegunaan/khasiat yang dimiliki suatu tumbuhan obat (b) jenis penyakit yang dapat disembuhkan oleh suatu tumbuhan obat (c) kemudahan budidaya suatu tumbuhan obat (d) keragaman kandungan metabolit sekunder dalam suatu tumbuhan obat (e) jenis organ atau bagian tumbuhan yang digunakan sebagai bahan obat. Kelima kriteria tersebut telah divalidasi dengan menggunakan 9 jenis tumbuhan obat yang telah dianggap unggul oleh Badan Pengawasan Obat dan Makanan. Abstract

ABSTRACT Kolowe seeds (C. excelsus) has strong potential as piscicidal. Research conducted on the potential piscicidal bioindikator swamp eel fish (Synbranchus bengalensis Mc.Cllel), which is one of the pests in shrimp ponds. The piscicidal test results of kolowe seeds to S.bengalensis fish are fresh seed powder (LC50 = 305, 50 ppm); dry powder (LC50 = 315.35 ppm); crude methanol extract (LC50 = 345.20 ppm); frakasi n-Butanol extract (LC50 = 265.85) and the fraction of ethylacetate extract (LC50 = 650.90). The results are quite robust and selective as the most dominant secondary metabolites are saponins. Key words: C. excelsus, Piscicidal ABSTRAK Biji kolowe (C. excelsus) memiliki potensi yang kuat sebagai pisisidal. Penelitian potensi pisisidal dilakukan terhadap bioindikator ikan belut rawa (Synbranchus bengalensis Mc.Cllel) yang merupakan salah satu hama pada tambak udang. Hasil uji pisisidal biji kolowe terhadap ikan S.bengalensis tersebut adalah serbuk biji segar (LC50 = 305, 50 ppm); serbuk kering (LC50 = 315,35 ppm); ekstrak kasar metanol (LC50 = 345,20 ppm); ekstrak frakasi n-Butanol (LC50 = 265,85); dan esktrak fraksi etilasetat (LC50 = 650,90). Hasil penelitian tersebut cukup kuat dan selektif karena metabolit sekunder paling dominan adalah saponin. Kata Kunci: Biji C. excelsus, pisisidal

Abstract

Saponin is a class of natural compounds that have activity that is strongly associated with utilization in pharmacy. Exploration has been carried out against a number of secondary metabolite content of medicinal plants in East Kalimantan and some of them found to contain saponins. Plants were found to contain saponins and are considered potential Kokang leaf (Lepisanthes amoena), Kesumbakeling leaf (Bixa orellana, L), Belimbing Wuluh leaf (Averrhoa bilimbi L.), Sugi Gadjah leaf (Hyptis capitata), Karamunting leaf (Melastoma malabathricum L), Cempedak bark (Artocarpus champeden), Wijaya Kusuma leaf (Epiphyllum oxipetalum), Langsat seeds (Lansium domesticum), ekor kucing leaf (Acalypha hispida), Kelor bark (Moringa oleifera), Jarong leaf (Stachytarpheta mutabilis), Miana leaf (Coleus atropureus), Jengger Ayam leaf (Celosia cristata), and fruit of Libo (Ficus vargelata). Key words : East borneo medicinal plants, saponins Abstrak Saponin adalah golongan senyawa alami yang memiliki aktivitas yang sangat terkait dengan pemanfaatan dalam bidang farmasi. Telah dilakukan eksplorasi kandungan metabolit sekunder terhadap sejumlah tumbuhan obat yang ada di Kalimantan Timur dan beberapa diantaranya terbukti mengandung saponin. Tumbuhan-tumbuhan yang terbukti mengandung sponin dan dianggap potensial adalah daun Kokang (Lepisanthes amoena), daun Kesumbakeling (Bixa orellana, L), daun Belimbing Wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi L.), daun Sugi Gadjah (Hyptis capitata), daun Karamunting (Melastoma malabathricum L), kulit batang Cempedak (Artocarpus champeden), daun Wijaya Kusuma (Epiphyllum oxipetalum), biji Langsat (Lansium domesticum), daun ekor kucing (Acalypha hispida), Kulit Batang Kelor (Moringa oleifera), daun Jarong (Stachytarpheta mutabilis), daun Miana (Coleus atropureus), daun Jengger Ayam (Celosia cristata), buah Libo (Ficus vargelata).
