Abstract

Sertifikasi guru telah mengangkat harkat dan martabat guru dari sisi kesejahteraan yang diperoleh guru sebagai konsekuensi logis terhadap sertifikat guru profesional yang dimilikinya. Namun, mendapatkan gaji yang besar belum menjamin meningkatnya kinerja guru dalam melaksanakan proses pembelajaran di kelas. Dari empat kompetensi guru, pedagogik, kepribadian, sosial, dan profesional, dua kompetensi, yaitu pedagogik dan profesional berkaitan langsung dengan kinerja guru dalam mengelola pembelajaran yang bermutu. Penelitian ini mencoba menganalisis kinerja guru bahasa Inggris yang belum dan telah sertifikasi pada kompetensi pedagogik dan profesional tersebut. Data diperoleh dari 36 responden yang terdiri dari 16 orang guru SMA Padang Panjang yang belum mengikuti sertifikasi dan 20 orang guru yang telah lulus sertifikasi guru pada tahun ajaran 2010/2011. Data dikumpulkan dengan angket yang menggunakan skala likert berisi penilaian tentang capaian kompetensi pedagogik dan profesional guru yang belum dan telah sertifikasi. Data dianalisis dengan mencari skor rata-rata pada masing-masing kompetensi dan subkompetensi pedagogik dan profesional. Hasil analisa data menunjukkan bahwa secara umum kompetensi pedagogik dan profesional guru bahasa Inggris yang telah sertifikasi lebih baik dari guru belum sertifikasi, tetapi pada beberapa subkompetensi tidak ada perbedaan antara kompetensi guru yang belum dan telah sertifikasi. Abstract

The purpose of the research is to find out the students’ ability in writing, especially writing recount text by using Facebook as a medium of discussion. In the classroom students set up their Cellphone to write and discuss a recount text. The research question is “Is there any significant effect on students writing recount text by using face book as medium for discussion on Senior High School students?” In the preliminary study it was found that the students’ writing ability was low. Hence, the writer is interested in trying to solve the students’ problem by using Facebook as a medium of discussion. The design of this research was an experimental research. The sample for this research consisted of 25 students. The result of this research found that Facebook as medium for discussion significantly affect the students writing ability. Abstract

Reference is an essential component for comprehending a reading text. In comprehending a text some students had problem such as their limited vocabulary, inability to interpret reference, and lack of background knowledge. The purpose of the research was to find out the students’ reference mastery in narrative text and students’ difficulties in mastering reference. This research was a descriptive research. Random sampling technique was applied and twenty two students of XI grade of SMAN 1 Tempuling were taken as the subject of the research. The data were collected through quantitative and qualitative methods. Reading test was distributed to collect quantitative data, while interview was applied to gather qualitative data. The findings of this research reveal that the students’ reference mastery was in good category, but some problems still appeared which were affected by some factors; lack of practice, limited vocabulary mastery, and poor grammar mastery. Thus, it can be concluded that the students’ reference mastery in narrative text needed to be improved.

Abstract

This article aims at describing word formation rules, and word formation shift on acronym, clipping, and blending found in written language of bahasa Indonesia. Data were taken from selected newspaper and magazines published nationally and locally in Indonesia. The findings indicates that there are some shifts in the Indonesian word fomation rules of bahasa Indonesia especially for acronym, blending, and clipping. The shift occurs in the absorption of acronyms, blendings, and clippings of foreign languages. Apart from that, there is a variety of changes to the new forms of acronyms, blendings, and clippings.

Abstract

Teaching strategy is necessary for the teaching and learning process. It is used as a way to present learning content in a way that engages the learners. It is assumed that applying appropriate teaching strategies has a positive impact on students' achievement. This study aimed to analyze students' perceptions of teacher's teaching strategy and its effect on students' achievement in learning English. This study was an Ex-post Facto study. The population of this study was the students who had studied English as a general subject at Universitas Negeri Padang in the academic year of January-June 2019. Cluster random sampling was used with 150 students as the sample of this study. Then, for collecting the data, two questionnaires and documents of students’ final scores were used as the instruments. The data was analyzed by using a Likert-type scale and regression linear statistical analysis through IBM SPSS Statistics 22 Software. The results showed that generally, students' perception of the teacher's teaching strategy was High. Then, based on the statistical analysis, it was found that thevalue of F-count was lower than F-table. It meant that the null hypothesis (H0) was accepted, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected. Thus, there was no significant effect of student's perception of teaching strategy towards students' achievement in learning English as a general subject.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore nursing students' perceptions of the use of the TPACK Framework within Task-based Language Teaching in an online class. The study employed a one-shot survey design. The participants of this study were 40 undergraduate nursing students at the nursing study program Poltekes Solok, West Sumatera. To avoid teacher-centered learning, this study implemented the TPACK Framework within Task-based Language Teaching, which has the potential to modify the way students learn. The questionnaire was delivered to the students using Google forms after the online learning activities were completed. The questionnaire was statistically analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentage. The findings showed that most nursing students had positive perceptions of the use of the TPACK Framework within Task-based Language Teaching in online classes. Thus, incorporating the TPACK Framework into Task-based Language Teaching may become one of the potential methods of teaching English for nursing in an online class.

Abstract

Contextual teaching and learning is one of the best method to gain the real experiences for EFL students in post pandemic for promoting learning method of 21st century skill. The aim of this study is to find out the teachers’ perception for promoting contextual teaching and learning for English as Foreign Language. The method of this research was quantitative. In collecting data, the researchers were set a questionnaire about 12 items and distributed it to the teachers in any education level by Google form. After getting the data, the researcher counting the percentage of the respondents’ answer and analyze based on the needs of contextual teaching and learning. The result showed that teachers’ perception for language learning that contextual teaching and learning is very valuable for the students in develop many things like knowledge, curiosity, information and many others for 21st century skill in post pandemic. However, there was only a limited lack of promoting contextual teaching and learning for teaching English, like not providing new knowledge. In conclusion, the teachers’ perception on contextual teaching and learning should be applied in the real classroom to explore more the knowledge in contextual meaning

Abstract

Blended learning method requires online and offline classroom instruction. In English language class particularly for EFL learners in Indonesia, blended learning become one of the best methods which can be implemented by teacher to assist learners. By having blended learning method, learners are able to do discussion with teacher/lecturer and other students beside face-to-face interaction. This study aims at investigating EFL learner’s perception about blended learning method in language class. This research was a descriptive research. There were 84 learners in university level of English department involved as participants of this study. A questionnaire containing 20 statements about blended learning was used to collect data. The result showed that, EFL learner’s perception about blended learning method was in a positive and good respond. Mostly, EFL learners give respond “agree” and “strongly agree” towards the statement available in the questionnaire. Furthermore, blended learning method can also be implemented by using certain application or platform such as: zoom meeting, google meet, microsoft teams, and others in order to emerge an innovation in a language classroom. In conclusion, blended learning method can create effective and efficient learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ perceptions towards the implementation of Team Based Project in intermediate reading class at English Department UNP and the benefits of Team Based Project. This is a descriptive quantitative study. The sample for this research was 59 students of English Department in Universitas Negeri Padang who have taken Intermediate reading course. The data collection technique used in this research was a questionnaire and interview. The results of this study indicated that the majority of Intermediate reading students in English Department had a positive perception of the implementation of Team Based Project. The students agree that the use of Team Based Project motivates students to learn and also improves students’ skills. Based on the finding, it can be concluded that the students in Intermediate reading class have positive perception toward the implementation of Team Based Project and also the students can get several benefits from the implementation of Team Based Project.
