Abstract

This article is intended to describe predictors of initial reading difficulty in students with reading difficulties in primary schools. This study used a descriptive research design. The results of this study indicate that the predictors that cause reading difficulties in students are (1) phonological awareness, (2) visual perception, and (3) one predictor that is still uncertain. However, the interesting thing is the phenomenon where students do not experience obstacles in phonological awareness or visual perception, but still experience difficulties in reading. The presumptions that appear in the last predictor are related to external factors.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is reviewing programs that have been made by previous researchers and then analyzed through a theoretical approach. The method used in this study is a systematic review of existing literature reviews. 3 (three) research results were collected from the final project of the Master of Special Education program at the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (Thesis) published in the last 5 (five) years, carried out a systematic review and analyzed through an Ecological theory approach. The results obtained were: 20% of participants in the study were program implementation tests on non-single subjects and 80% used single subjects, 20% used a purely ecological approach and the remaining 80% were programs for optimizing children's growth and development. Ecological contextual frameworks are also discussed, namely Microsystems, Mesosystems, Ecosystems, Macrosystems and Chronosystems. Furthermore, ecological factors were analyzed regarding the relationship between early intervention programs and parenting programs in improving parental skills and optimizing child development. The last part also analyzes the objective conditions of parents who have children with special needs based on the results of empirical research and analyzes family understanding, family treatment, and efforts made by families before and after program implementation. So that making early intervention programs based on family resources does not only focus on children's barriers, but is more complex than that, ecological support is the most important thing in optimizing children's growth and development.

Abstract

This study is set out from the phenomenon of sexual conflict in teenagers with autism. Sexual urge is a natural biological need in a stage of development. For that, we need a wise handling and normatively accepted by society. The wise handling need support from different sources in the community, support of view or perspective that gives the correct solution in handling autistic adolescent sexual urge. The purpose of this study is to find out the preparations both parents and teachers of children with autism to enter adolescence, prevention efforts and treatment that can be done by parents and teachers to the emergence of other forms of sexual behavior of adolescents with autism and the proper sexual urge distribution techniques for autistic adolescent. This study uses a qualitative approach using the Delphi Study. The technique of collecting data through in-depth interviews, observation, Forom Group Discusion (FGD) and documentation with resource parents, teachers, orthopaedagog, psychologist, psychiatrist, doctors and clerics (Islam, Christian, Catholic, Hindu and Buddhist). The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis, content analysis, taxonomy, domain and traffic perspective. The result shows that the development of adolescence in children with autism generally aged 8-21 years; characteristics of both primary and secondary development are the same as adolescents in general, what distinguishes are the ability of self-control; sexual behaviors that appear to form self-exploration of the opposite sex began to be interested though can not interpret the relationship, a factor that encourages the emergence of sexual behavior in terms of internal (hormonal changes), while the external (the promiscuity, the lack of proper understanding about sex and self-control); forms of sexual behavior does not include sexual deviant behavior due to self control limitations and the ability to communicate; preparation of teachers and parents giving the same treatment as adolescents generally by giving guidance at an early age and assistance at all phases of development, prevention and treatment of sexual behavior can be done through self internal of autistic adolescence itself, external environment and the right distribution of sex drive through marriage with the assistance of older people. Abstract

Early intervention implementation must be carried out in its natural environment through family empowerment because it is more effective than an early intervention that focuses on children. This condition is based on home and family as a natural environment for children. The intensity of interaction and communication between children and families greatly influences achieving optimal child development. This study aims to optimize children who are known to have risks and children who have definitive obstacles in children aged 0 to 6. The implementation is focused on support, increasing the skills, and other positive aspects that exist in the family. The approach uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observation, and document study. The results show an effect of early intervention on the development of children who have communication barriers based on the subject assessment with parents. The conclusion of the implementation of the early intervention program is a change in the family paradigm towards the needs of their children, and the family also begins to understand that their children need a lot of vocabulary to increase their self-confidence.

Abstract

this study was conducted to find the essential factors of linguistic awareness and visual perception influencing the beginning reading skill of mentally retarded children. The factors studied include linguistic awareness (morphemes, semantics and syntax) and visual perception awareness (visual discrimination, visual spatial, visual figure-ground, and visual memory) which are assumed to be the prerequisites of learning early reading. The subjects of this research were 32 students from 5 special school in Bandung. The results show that both of the factors have strong influence towards mentally retarded children early reading skill. However, the Beta Coefficient it was is found that linguistic awareness has stronger relationship compared to the visual perception aspect. The value of the coefficient path in the linguistic awareness is 0.72, while the coefficient path value for linguistic awareness is 0.25. This means that linguistic awareness is influencing position as the prerequisite of early reading skill compared to the visual perception aspect. However, if studied further, it is found that not all variables related to either linguistic awareness aspect or visual perception have the same meaningful relationship with children reading skills. The most essential factor of reading prerequisite related to the linguistic awareness is related to the phoneme and syntax awareness, while the essential factor in visual perception is related to the visual discrimination and visual memory.
