Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of the differentiated learning model as a strategy to enhance social skills in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Adopting a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, data were gathered through observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis at inclusive elementary schools in Bandung, Indonesia, that have incorporated differentiated learning models. The findings reveal that the application of the differentiated learning model involves key stages such as identifying students' needs, setting learning objectives, adjusting the curriculum, differentiating instruction, offering varied final product options, modifying the learning environment, and conducting continuous evaluations. These stages enable teachers to design learning activities tailored to the social and emotional needs of students with ASD. The study demonstrates that these adaptations significantly enhance the social skills of students with ASD in areas such as environmental care, attention-seeking, greeting others, maintaining a positive attitude, demonstrating responsibility, actively participating in learning, and engaging in group activities. The findings suggest that differentiated learning provides a structured and responsive approach to fostering social skills development in children with ASD, with potential implications for broader educational practices.

Abstract

This research describes the Sariswara Method and syntax development in Accommodating Student Diversity. This research was conducted at Kemudo 3 Elementary School. It used observation, interviews, and questionnaires as data collection techniques. The research method used is Research and Development. The method developed used the 6 steps of Borg Gall development by Sugiyono (1) research and collecting information, (2) data collection, (3) product design, (4) expert validation, (5) product revisions, (6) and limited trials. The results of this research and development method indicate that the Sariswara method and syntax have been successfully developed. The feasibility score is a "Good" (2.8 average score) from the method validator, a "Very Good" (3.6 average scores) from the material validator, and a "Very Good" (4.0 Average score) from the teacher. The limited trial showed a "Very Good" response (86%) from students. Therefore, novelty in this research about developing the Sariswara method in the form of syntax accommodating the diversity of students in thematics learning in IV grade is feasible and can help students learn thematics material.

Abstract

Inclusive schools are educational institutions that accommodate all students, both normal students, and students with special needs, to get educational services according to their needs to create a friendly and fun learning atmosphere. Carrying out learning in inclusive schools, of course, requires a curriculum. Curriculum and learning are part of the education system that cannot be separated and interrelated. This study aims to develop a curriculum and learning program for students with special needs Down syndrome in grade 1 in inclusive elementary schools who experience problems in the early reading aspect because one of the prerequisites in early reading has not been met. This study uses research methods with a qualitative approach. Qualitative research is used to explore student profile information and learning profiles which are then used as the basis for developing curriculum and learning programs. The results of this study are to obtain a learning program that is to the needs of students obtained from the process of aligning the curriculum. Thus, it is recommended that teachers harmonize the curriculum based on the results of the assessment so that curriculum and learning programs are obtained that are in bye needs of students.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of understanding of families, especially parents, on child development, in this study the development that will be discussed is motor development in children with cerebral palsy who have quite complex developmental delays. The purpose of this study is to increase the family's understanding of the development of children according to their age which is expected by parents to be able to intervene independently, therefore an early intervention program with family resources is needed for children with cerebral palsy. The method used in this study is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach using observation and interviews to explore data and objective conditions of the family.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected people with disabilities in a number of ways, including the development of post-COVID syndromes. Post-COVID syndrome is a condition that affects individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 but continue to experience a variety of symptoms, such as fatigue, shortness of breath and cognitive impairment. This article examines the impact of post-COVID syndrome on students with disabilities and reveals new investigations and treatment methods for post-COVID syndrome. This study uses the literature review method. This study found that post-COVID syndrome can significantly affect the academic performance and mental health of students with disabilities, requiring a multidisciplinary treatment approach. This article recommends implementing an individualized support plan, including accommodation, mental health services, and physical rehabilitation, to address the unique needs of each student with post-COVID syndrome. It also emphasizes the importance of further research to improve understanding of post-COVID syndromes in people with disabilities.

Abstract

Various interventions aimed at addressing sensory challenges are available for Down Syndrome children, but interventions made based on the results of sensory intervention are exciting challenges to research. This study aims to determine the improvement of sensory abilities through stimuli designed based on the results of sensory. This study used a pre-post quantitative method that measured the sensory skills of Down syndrome children. The study was conducted on 8 participants of Down Syndrome children for 12 months. Data analyzed using the Wilcoxon rank test obtained an Asymp value. Sig. (2-tailed) or p-value < 0.05 so that the conclusion is rejected H0 or sufficient evidence that the pretest and post-test sensory development values are different and Asymp values are obtained. The application of examination-based sensory interventions reportedly provided significant improvements in sensory skills in 8 Down Syndrome children after receiving based interventions by following procedures and validated interventions in the form of guidance for parents for 12 months of routine home interventions.

Abstract

This research aims to identify students with special needs, create their profiles, and design appropriate intervention programs. A qualitative method with a case study design was used with data collection instruments in the form of observation, documentation and interviews. Research subjects included school principals, teachers, regular students, children with special needs, and parents. The research was conducted in class IV of SDN Purwasari, Subang Regency, with a focus on identifying aspects of reading, writing and arithmetic. The results of the analysis show that one student, DI, has the lowest score in all three aspects. The next step is to prioritize the reading aspect because DI is not yet able to read. The reading assessment was carried out in three parts, and the results showed that DI still had difficulty answering questions or commands. Teachers are expected to design intervention programs on aspects of visual perception and phonological awareness before entering beginning reading material.

Abstract

The study presented herein delves into the sexual responses of young blind females involved in romantic relationships. More specifically, it focuses on the four stages of sexual response—Excitement/Arousal Response, Plateau Response, Orgasm Response, and Resolution Response—within the context of mental health. The primary objective of this research endeavor is to garner insights into the navigation and response of these individuals to sexual experiences within the framework of romantic relationships, as well as to comprehend the impact of said experiences on their mental well-being. To achieve this objective, a qualitative exploratory approach was employed, with the participants being seven adolescent blind females ranging in age from 16 to 19 years old. It is noteworthy that these individuals were interviewed at a specialized school for the visually impaired in West Java. The findings unveiled that sensory experiences, communication with partners, and societal misconceptions significantly influence the sexual response experiences of young Blind females, which in turn are intertwined with their mental well-being. This research aims to understand how young blind women's sexuality and mental health intersect in romantic relationships.

Abstract

Initial reading difficulties are a phenomenon that occurs almost every school year in elementary school. In response to this phenomenon, the services developed are remedial learning services. In its implementation, remedial learning services are still a debate. On the one hand, remedial services look more at the effectiveness of activity implementation, but on the other hand still do not answer the holistic needs of students. This research was developed with the aim of developing intervention strategies in serving the reading learning needs of students with reading difficulties without having to serve them in specialized classes. The subjects in this study were two students with initial reading difficulties in the third grade of one of the public schools in East Jakarta. This research method is a mixed method. In the first stage, an assessment of reading difficulties was carried out on students. Furthermore, the required strategy is developed and finally analyzes the effectiveness of the strategy used through visual graphs of the achievement of intervention results. The results of this study suggest that through the intervention strategies developed can provide opportunities to improve students' early reading skills. These results have an implication on the development of educational service models for students with beginning reading difficulties in improving beginning reading skills.
