Abstract

Orientation and mobility skills are special skills that must be mastered by children with visual impairment, thus an orientation and mobility intervention program is important to develop. Fear or anxiety in children with visual impairment related to orientation and mobility can be caused by fear from within the children or from the environment. Personality, motivation, psychosocial factor, and family and community attitudes all contribute to one's reaction to mobility activities independently. This research aims to reduce the fear of children with visual impairment in performing orientation and mobility activities by implementing an intervention program through bibliotherapy technique. This research is a case study research with a qualitative approach. Bibliotherapy was carried out on two young children with visual impairment. The results of the program implementation show that children's fear or anxiety could be reduced in both cases in this research as seen by autonomous moves of the two children from the mother and caregiver and began to learn to trace the walls of the room.

Abstract

The existence of COVID-19 in Indonesia was officially announced by the president in March 2020 before the virus emerged in Wuhan China. School closure was conducted and the policy of distant learning was officially released by the Ministry of Education. This research aimed to find the challenges that teachers in Indonesia encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and how teachers overcome the learning process challenges. The study was conducted towards primary school teachers in some provinces in Indonesia through an online survey with close-ended and open- ended questions. Our research findings showed teachers encounter challenges that include the disturbance in teaching and learning regarding accessibility, learning quality, school-home relationship, and technology awareness. Teachers also changed their ways of teaching by sending the learning materials via Google Classroom, WhatsApp (cross-platform messaging), and a few still conducted face-to- face meetings with strict policies.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic occurred in Indonesia in early March 2020 which was then followed by learning from home policy. The purpose of this study is to gather information through a survey about the implementation of online learning conducted by teachers who provide inclusive education service at the elementary schools. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The data collected by using a survey technique and then a descriptive analysis is conducted with a total of 80 respondents who are scattered in several provinces in Indonesia. The results show that teachers' knowledge of COVID-19 needs improvement and a few teachers still believe that COVID-19 is a conspiracy. The learning process during the COVID-19 pandemic has made teachers make changes in the teaching and learning process, but not all teachers use television programs as a medium of learning. The ability of teachers to use ICT helps them in providing educational services and the majority have no difficulty using learning applications. Although at the beginning of the pandemic, it was difficult to adapt to learning, until this article is written the teachers have been adapting their teaching approaches. It is also found that teachers have a good relationship with parents and teachers fully aware that the success of distance learning lay in the involvement of parents.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the profile of the independence of the mathematics learning process for children with special needs, especially students with learning difficulties. We used a qualitative research method with the subject of children with special needs (students with learning difficulties) in junior high schools, in West Java. The results showed that independence in the process of learning mathematics for students with learning difficulties can be analyzed from 3 aspects, namely: (1) independent learning in the aspect of freedom to make choices, (2) independent learning in the aspect of commitment to assignments, and (3) independent learning in aspects of self-confidence. This can be seen from the analysis of data taken from the field. Most children have a large percentage of their belief in the aspects of learning independence in the aspect of belief in their own abilities. The implications of this research are expected to be a reference in developing programs or determining learning methods used for students with learning difficulties.
