Abstract

Various previous studies have shown that ecotourism has great potential and benefits when associated with education and especially in learning. This review study aimed to explore an ecotourism-based learning model at the high school level in Malang, East Java. The focused in the review were (1) competencies and indicators of learning outcomes of all subjects in all subjects that could apply ecotourism-based learning 2) the potential for regional ecotourism (especially school environments in East Java) which could be used for ecotourism-based learning based on competencies and outcome indicators learning, and 3) drafted recommendations for learning models based on ecotourism. Based on the results of a review of various references, it can be stated that four things need to be considered in the application of an ecotourism-based learning model, namely the conceptual framework, planning, implementation, evaluation, and furthering the ecotourism-based learning model. Furthermore, It was necessary to develop an ecotourism-based Learning Model that follows an appropriate development model, so that an implementable model is produced.

Abstract

Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) must be owned by students, and need to be assessed authentically. This study aimed to 1) analyze the efforts of high school teachers in Malang in developing a HOTS-authentic assessment in tissue structure materials; and 2) analyze the pre-validation final draft of the HOTS-authentic assessment model on tissue structure materials. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D). However, in line with the objectives, this publication only focuses on define, design, and develop. The developed part is only on the product (a pre-validation final draft). The research was carried out in state high schools in Malang (SSHS 1, 3, 4, 7, and 8). The study was conducted in April-November 2018. The subjects were 2 teachers from each school (10 teachers in total). Research data and findings were analyzed by descriptive-analytic qualitative. The results showed that teachers have included or considered HOTS aspects in lesson plans. However, the development of HOTS aspects and their assessment were not able to be carried out maximally. In practice, in a greater percentage, teachers use lesson plans without modification or making adjustments to student conditions. They modify and incorporate the HOTS aspect if there is an opportunity to discuss with other part who guide them. Therefore, the existence of this assessment model is very needed. The pre-validation final draft is essentially in the form of concepts that can be linked to the MGMP activities, and various related part, in an interactive and cyclical relationship (as a model for professional development of biology teachers).

Abstract

Environmental attitude should be possessed by students as an effort to manage their relationship with environmental problems. However, there has never been any study on the environmental attitudes of prospective biology teachers in Indonesia. This study aims to discover the environmental attitude of the prospective science teachers throughout Indonesia. This cross-sectional survey study analyzes the aspects of gender, grade point average (GPA), college status, and study status which are positioned as the character of the respondent whose impact on the students’ environmental attitudes are analyzed in this study. The target population size of this study is 1300 people. Thus, based on Krejcie and Morgan Table, the minimum sample size with a confidence level of 95% and margin error of 5% is 1235 students. The data collection instrument used in this study is the Environmental Attitude Inventory/EAI questionnaire which has been validated by bilingual experts and transformed into an online questionnaire by means of Google Form. SPSS software was used to examine the data. The results indicate that there is no significant difference in EA scores based on gender, GPA factor, and university status background. The difference in EA scores is affected by whether or not students have taken courses related to the environment ownership. The researchers believe that it is critical to ensure that the course materials concerning environmental education are properly planned and implemented. Courses should be supplemented with themes on environmental issues ranging from local to global scope.
