Abstract

Background: Children who are abused are prone to delayed growth and development, including the development of independent Activities Daily Living (ADL). Self-help skills are motor skills that can help children to fulfill basic needs independently through Activities Daily Living (ADL). Therefore, adults around them, including caregivers in orphanages, need to teach self-help skills to improve children's ADL independence. Objectives: This study aims to determine the effect of self-help skills on Activities Daily Living (bathing, brushing teeth, personal hygiene, toileting, dressing, and eating) independence in pre-school children with child abuse which is measured by ADLIC (Activities of Daily Living Iranian Children). Methods: Respondents in this study were pre-school children with child abuse who were given self-help skills with a total of 36 respondents divided into intervention and control groups. The research design used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group pre-post test. The bivariate analysis used in bathing, brushing teeth, personal hygiene, and toileting variables was paired t-test, while the variables of dressing and eating was used Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: The p-value result in the intervention group is 0.000 (<0.05) which indicates that there is a difference in ADL ability from before and after the intervention. In the control group, the p-value> 0.05 was obtained, indicating that there was no difference between ADL abilities before and after. There is a significant average increase in the intervention group compared to the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that there are average increase in the independence of Activities Daily Living (ADL) in pre-school children with child abuse in the intervention group after being given treatment in the form of self-help skills. Therefore, it is hoped that all parties involved in the care of children with a history of child abuse are able to minimize the impact that occurs due to child abuse and understand the concept of self-help skills that support the development of the independence of ADL.

Abstract

ntroduction: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition with an increasing global prevalence that demands effective intervention strategies. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a well-researched approach for treating various co-occurring disorders in children with ASD. However, despite the growing volume of research, there remains a lack of comprehensive bibliometric analysis that maps global trends, thematic focus, and collaboration patterns in CBT-related ASD studies, highlighting a critical gap that this study seeks to address. Methods: This study used a bibliometric approach to analyze global research trends in CBT for treating children with ASD. It analyzed 148 articles published between 2007 and 2025. Data were collected from the Scopus database and analyzed using VOSviewer, Harzing's Publish or Perish, and Microsoft Excel. This bibliometric analysis provides a novel perspective by quantitatively mapping the evolution of research, identifying underexplored themes, and revealing disparities in scientific contributions between developed and developing countries, an area that has received limited attention in existing CBT-ASD literature. Results: The results showed a significant upward trend in publications on CBT for ASD since 2007, peaking by 2025. The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia dominated the geographical distribution of research, whereas developing countries had limited contributions. Collaboration patterns revealed strong connections between developed countries, with the United States as the main center. This study focused on the effectiveness of CBT in managing anxiety disorders, improving social skills, and addressing comorbidities, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder and sleep problems. However, there are research gaps in the application of CBT for severe ASD and in the involvement of developing countries. Conclusion: This study offers a novel bibliometric insight into the evolution and focus of CBT research in ASD, highlighting underexplored areas for future inquiry. Its implications can be extended to health practitioners, policymakers, educators, and researchers. Future research should explore the adaptation of CBT to various cultural contexts and ASD severity, utilizing technological advancements and multidisciplinary collaboration to provide more inclusive and accessible interventions for children with ASD worldwide.

Abstract

Iron Supplementation is a crucial intervention for adolescent girls, both in the present and for their future health. Adolescents, particularly females, are at a higher risk of developing anemia compared to other age groups, primarily due to increased blood loss during menstruation. This community engagement initiative aimed to enhance adolescent knowledge regarding the role of iron supplementation in the prevention of anemia. The intervention employed a structured health education program delivered through PowerPoint presentations, informational leaflets, and educational videos. The program was conducted among 36 female students. Data were collected using pre- and post-intervention knowledge assessments, and analyzed by comparing the mean scores before and after the educational session. The findings demonstrated a significant improvement in knowledge, with the mean score increasing from 57.78 in the pre-test to 83.06 in the post-test. Based on these results, it is recommended that iron supplementation education be sustained and integrated into routine school-based supplementation programs to optimize awareness and compliance among adolescent girls. Keywords: Adolescent girls, anemia, blood supplement tablet, health eduacation.

Abstract

Background: Fatigue is one of the most common chronic symptoms experienced by adolescents with thalassemia major as a consequence of the disease and routine blood transfusions. This condition negatively affects quality of life, daily activities, and psychological well-being. Benson relaxation technique, as a non-pharmacological intervention, has the potential to reduce fatigue by lowering stress and anxiety while promoting relaxation.Purpose: To examine the effectiveness of Benson relaxation technique in reducing fatigue among adolescents with thalassemia undergoing blood transfusion. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a pre-post test control group approach was employed. The sample consisted of 30 adolescents (15 in the intervention group and 15 in the control group) selected through purposive sampling. The intervention group practiced Benson relaxation twice a week for four weeks (15–20 minutes), while the control group received standard care. Fatigue levels were measured using the Visual Analogue Scale for Fatigue (VAS-F). Data were analyzed using paired t-test and General Linear Model Repeated Measure (GLM-RM).Results: A significant difference was found in fatigue scores before and after the intervention in the treatment group (p<0.05), as well as between the intervention and control groups. GLM-RM analysis demonstrated that Benson relaxation technique effectively reduced fatigue consistently up to the fourth week. Conclusion: Benson relaxation technique is proven to be effective in reducing fatigue among adolescents with thalassemia undergoing blood transfusion. Keywords: Adolescents; Benson Relaxation Technique; Blood Transfusion; Fatigue; Thalassemia. Abstract

In Bandung city, the prevalence of HIV-positive women increased annually. It can potentially produce an infected fetus if they are pregnant because HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) can pass through the placenta and transmit to the fetus. With women's awareness, preventing transmission risk may be beneficial to achieve a safe conception, pregnancy and birth for women who are planning to have a baby. Aims. This study aims to identify HIV women's perception of the perinatal spread of HIV in pregnancy and highlights their role in managing transmission prevention. Method. Fifty-two women with diagnosed HIV belonging to active members of a peer support group (PSG) in Bandung city, Indonesia, answered survey questionnaires. The questions covered behaviors components on perceived HIV-transmitted risk, benefits and obstacles and self-confidence in HIV-transmitted prevention (5-point scale). The data collection was carried out about two months. Results. Participants generally have a positive perception of HIV-transmitted prevention. Of the 52 women, 51.4% (n=27) showed positive perceptions of HIV-transmitted susceptibility, 60% (n=30) felt no barriers to HIV-transmitted prevention, and 51.4% (n=27) had positive self-confidence in HIV-transmitted prevention. In contrast, 54.3% of women (n=28) indicated that they negatively perceive the benefits of HIV- transmitted prevention. Conclusions. These findings provide important clues for planning HIV management before pregnancy, highlighting the domains that health professionals should seriously focus on in giving proper intervention. Health professionals should use specific strategies to promote the benefits of HIV-transmitted prevention to achieve the demands of safe conception, pregnancy and postpartum.

Abstract

Thalassemia in Indonesia is dominated by teens. Thalassemic adolescents often experience psychosocial problems. The role of family and peer group support in the quality of life of thalassemic adolescents is still inconclusive. This study aim to determine the association between family and peer group support on the quality of life of thalassemic adolescents in one government hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia. An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach on β-thalassemia sufferers aged 12-18 years who came to the Children's Polyclinic and intervention room in November-December 2023. Family and peer group support was measured using the Social Support Scale, while quality of life was measured using the validated Generic Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory Version 4.0 (PedsQL). The data obtained were analyzed using Chi-Square and logistic regression tests. Forty-three patients were involved in this study. The average age of respondents was 14.4 years (range 13.8 – 15.1), the average time of diagnosis was 9.49 years (range 8.0 – 11.0), the average hemoglobin (Hb) level was 9.2 gr/dl (range 8.7 – 9.6 gr/dl). The majority of respondents were male (65.1%), had low education (60.5%), and had a good adherence to iron chelation therapy (100%). The association between family and peer group support on quality of life obtained a p-value of 0.014 and 0.006 with an Odd Ratio (OR) of 4.976 and 7.333 respectively. There is a significant relationship between family and peer group support on the quality of life of thalassemic adolescents. It is recommended for health workers to improve the quality of life of thalassemic adolescents with a family and peer group support approach. Further studies are needed to confirm the results of this study.
