Abstract

The skin is the largest organ on the human body that plays a vital role in protecting the body from environmental aggressions and maintaining internal balance, however, the natural aging process and exposure to external factors can cause various skin problems, including loss of elasticity, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation. To address these issues, the development of skincare products such as anti-aging gels is important. The aim of this study was to optimise the base of the anti-aging gel formulation by considering the selection of gelling agents with appropriate variations. The research method was conducted by obtaining five different formulas using a combination of gelling agents Carbopol and CMC Na with variations of Formula 1 which is 1% b/v carbopol with 2% b/v CMC Na, Formula 2 which is 1.25% b/v carbopol with 1.75% b/v CMC Na, Formula 3 which is 1.5% b/v carbopol with 1.5% b/v CMC Na, Formula 4 which is 1.75% b/v carbopol with 1.25% b/v CMC Na and Formula 5 which is 2% b/v carbopol with 1% b/v CMC Na . Physical testing was conducted to evaluate the formulation characteristics, including colourimetry, pH, viscosity, adhesion, and spreadability, comparisons between different formulas were conducted to determine the best base formula. The results showed that formula 5 with the ratio of gelling agent carbomer 2% b/v and CMC Na 1% b/v, is the optimal formula supported by physical testing, namely the metric choleretic test is good, homogeneous, pH 6.237 in accordance with the pH range of the skin, the Viscosity test has the highest viscosity of 148.34 d.Pas, the longest adhesion test with an adhesion time of 9.535 seconds, allowing the active substance to more easily penetrate the skin and be absorbed.

Abstract

Palangkaraya, with more than 500,000 hectares of peatland, faces major challenges in the management of its natural resources. Acidic and infertile peatlands require a special approach to increase agricultural productivity without damaging the environmental balance. One relevant approach is the application of the zero waste concept, where organic waste from agriculture and agro-tourism can be processed into high-quality compost. This community service program aims to introduce Organic Waste Composting Machine technology with Vertical Aerobic Composting method to Harapan Farmer Group in Palangkaraya. The program includes training in the use of technology and mentoring in organic waste management to improve peatland fertility. The results showed a significant increase in partners' understanding and skills in utilizing compost technology, and successfully supported the zero waste program by converting organic waste into useful compost. This program not only supports environmental sustainability, but also contributes to the improvement of partners' economic welfare through reduced dependence on chemical fertilizers.

Abstract

The Stevia plant is used as a low calorie natural sweetener known as"the sweet herb of Paraguay". Stevia leaves a higher level of sweetness than cane sugar. Stevia can be propagated by stem cutting techniques. Soaked of stem cuttings in Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) auxin can promote the growth and development of Stevia. Research was conducted to determine the effect of commercial PGRs (Rootone-f) and natural PGRs from Shallot extract. This study used a complete randomized design with different concentrations, both Rootone-f (0, 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 mg/L) and shallot extract (0, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5% and 2%). Observations were made after 6 weeks (42 days) of planting on several growth parameters (height of plant, number or buds, number of leaves, number of roots and length of roots). Commercial PGRs showed a significant effect on growth parameters. While natural PGRs of shallot showed a significant effect on height of growth parameters. The recommended concentration of commercial PGRs for Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni M. stem cuttings was 300 mg/L.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to develop superior products at Cipta Rasa Agrotourism, Palangkaraya, through the application of vacuum frying technology. The focus of the activity included selecting the right fruits, namely crystal guava and papaya, based on their low moisture content and ease of processing. Making sample chips from these two fruits resulted in a crispy, low-oil product, while maintaining natural flavors and nutrients. In addition, the selection of appropriate packaging materials, using a combination of aluminum foil and OPP plastic, provides optimal protection of product quality and extends shelf life. An attractive and informative packaging design was also prepared to increase the product's competitiveness in the market. The results of this activity show that vacuum frying technology and good packaging design can increase the added value of agro-tourism products, support the concept of green economy, and have a positive impact on the welfare of farmers and environmental sustainability. This chip product has great potential to be marketed widely, both at the local and national levels.

Abstract

Lipase from Moraxella sp. SBE01 is an expression of the gene encoding lipase. Detection and characterization of the Moraxella sp. SBE01 lipase coding gene is necessary for large-scale lipase production through genetic engineering. This study aimed to observe the molecular weight, amino acid sequence, length, and conserved amino acids in the DNA encoding the lipase gene, with the goal of identifying and characterizing the lipase-coding gene from Moraxella sp. SBE01. The primer design process was conducted to amplify the lipase gene from Moraxella sp. SBE01 using specialized software for sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis. Amplification was carried out using PCR with the designed primer, forward primer (GTC ATG ATG TAC TTC CAY GGN GGN GG), reverse primer (GGT TGC CGC CGG CDS WRT CNC C). PCR was carried out under pre-denatured conditions at 95°C (3 minutes), followed by 30 cycles of denaturation at 95°C, annealing at 66°C (30 seconds), 70°C elongations (1 minute) and final elongation of 70°C (10 minutes). The PCR results were electrophoresed using 1% agarose gel with a 1 kb DNA marker. The PCR results were sequenced and analyzed for gene and amino acid sequences and the type of lipase expressed. Sequencing resulted in 387 bp of the nucleotide sequence. The gene and amino acid sequences from Moraxella sp. SBE01 had high homology with the gene and amino acid sequences from Moraxella sp. strain TA144. The lipase gene encodes a protein consisting of 129 amino acids and contains a conserved HGG (His-Gly-Gly) motif, which is characteristic of lipases in family IV, also known as the hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) family. This conserved sequence suggests that the lipase shares structural and functional similarities with other enzymes in the HSL family, playing a key role in lipid metabolism.

Abstract

Gunung Picis and Gunung Sigogor nature reserves, located in the Wilis mountain range of East Java, were established in 1924 and 1936, respectively. These areas are critical for biodiversity preservation as mandated by Indonesia's Law No. 5 of 1990 on Conservation of Biological Resources and Ecosystems. Despite previous surveys documenting various mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians data remain limited. Herpetofauna, particularly amphibians, are vital bio-indicators due to their sensitivity to environmental changes, but they face significant threats from habitat loss and exploitation. This study, conducted in November 2020 using Visual Encounter Surveys and opportunistic searches, aimed to catalog herpetofauna diversity in these reserves. The survey identified 29 herpetofauna species, with Nyctixalus margaritifer rediscovered at a new site. Most species were classified as Least Concern (LC), except for the Gonocephalus kuhlii (Vulnerable/VU), indicating potential habitat threats. Analysis of species distribution highlighted "Wates stream" as the most diverse habitat. These findings provide a critical foundation for future conservation efforts, emphasizing the need for targeted strategies to protect amphibian and reptile species in Gunung Picis and Gunung Sigogor nature reserve.
