Abstract

This paper studies the thought of the Persian mystic Junayd al-Baghdadī, a prominent figure in the early development of Sufism (taṣawwuf). This study attempts to determine the relationship between Sufism and Islam and test the popular assumption that Sufi ideas and practices corrupt the original Islamic teachings and thus constitute innovation (bidʿa). This quantitative study focuses on the Rasāʿil Junayd (Epistles of Junayd) as the primary source of data and concludes that Sufism is not only based on authentic Islamic teachings but represents the spiritual core of Islam. Junayd al-Baghdadī formulated its three central concepts of the covenant (mīthāq), annihilation (fanāʾ), and unification (tawḥīd). He successfully reconciled the spiritual concepts of taṣawwuf and the legal concepts of fiqh and thus helped to free Sufism from the stigma of heresy and integrated it into mainstream Islam.

Abstract

This article focuses on sharing information and knowledge in the form of scholars’ academic communication about the COVID-19 epidemic in international publications. The data was collected from search results in the Scopus database from December 2019 to March 2020. Through the bibliometric assessment method, the survey shows that there are 1475 publications on COVID-19. There are 1104 publications (75%) that can be accessed. Although COVID-19 has started about four months since the first case in Hubei China (11/17/20), scholars are making a research program and publish their findings in order to share information and knowledge in dealing with the pandemic. The sharing information is theoretically a form of world scholarly academic communication activities. Therefore, open access publications can help scholars to easily communicate and share information about their findings. This then affects the number of publications and citations with the capacity of research institutions, sponsors, and countries. This article recommends as broad as possible to provide open access in the midst of disaster situations in order to handle COVID-19 pandemic faster and easier.

Abstract

Although the research on the readability of particular text has been extensively undertaken, little research applied to article journals. This study attempts to analyze the readability of religious and socio-cultural articles published in the Wawasan Journal. It is crucial to analyze it to prepare the journal indexed by Scopus at the international level and Sinta 1 at the national level. This study adopted the mixed method, quantitative to count the readability score, and qualitative to describe the readability score.  Data were collected from three issues: Volume 4, no 1 (2019), Volume 4, no 2 (2019), and Volume 5, no 1 (2020) because the journal uses English in those issues. Then, a test was undertaken by use of online software https://readabilityformulas.com on the texts of each article. The readability formulas are FKGL, CLI, SMOG, ARI, and LWF. The result shows that most articles of Wawasan Journal are appropriate with the targeted readers: college, college graduate, and college graduate and above. Nevertheless, many articles are still regarded as suitable for the lower level, namely school grade level. Based on the readability score average of three issues is relatively stable. Due to FKGL, CLI, SMOG, and ARI formulas, the three issues are appropriate at college level. Meanwhile, those are appropriate with college graduates and above based on LWF. It is still found inappropriate text with targeted readers, the researchers suggest that the editorial board need to check not only its originality and grammar but also the readability score of the proposed article.

Abstract

The survey results on the intolerance of religion teachers in Indonesia signaled the need for the formulation of a more peaceful and tolerant Islamic theological education. This paper reads Ricoeur’s hermeneutics on Tariq Ramadan’s thoughts in formulating the tolerant Islamic education theology. There are three aspects of theology proposed by Tariq Ramadan, namely (1) educational activities are at the heart of Islamic theology, there is no faith without understanding and no understanding without education; (2) education is oriented to encourage individuals to gain religious experience that bears a commitment to participate in creating justice and social achievement; and (3) religious experience resulted from the education is transformed for the benefit of people through the implementation of education and tolerant dakwah (Islamic teachings).

Abstract

Abstract: A study by PPIM (2017) which indicates increased intolerance among Indonesian Muslim students encourages the emergence of an Islamic education model that emphasizes the value of peace in a collective life. Islamic religious education (PAI), has been focusing on the mastery of Islamic teachings without being linked to the model of relations and communication with other "different" people, and even the history of Islam is more about war than peace efforts. This paper aims to find a PAI learning approach that can foster a peaceful value with a learning process that provides comfort to students. This paper is based on experimental research on first semester students Ushuludin Faculty UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung batch 2017 who took the course of Tawheed. In this research, the material of monotheism is presented with more emphasis on aspects of application through modelling the story of the Prophet Muhammad with the approach of Living Values Education and reflective writing. This research raises awareness to admire the Prophet Muhammad as an inspirational human figure to live more patient, full of struggle, and build peace. In addition the Living Values Education approach also changes in student behaviour and involvement during the lecture. Abstract

Muslim communities in the Hindu-majority area of Bali have existed since the 15th century. Since that period, the interdependence between the two religious communities has been something inevitable. This study aims to enrich the treasures of the interdependence discourse that exists between Muslims and Hindus in Bali. It tries to trace the history and early development of Islam in Bali, the relation pattern between Muslims and Hindus, and local wisdom influencing the interdependence in Bali. Data for this study were obtained through observations and interviews with key figures in Klungkung, Bali. After profound analysis, the writer concludes that the emergence of Islam in Bali occurred when Dalem Ketut Ngelesir (1380-1460) visited Majapahit during the vassal royal conference in early 1380 and brought 40 Muslim escorts. This period also marked the early Hindus-Muslim relationship in Bali with Klungkung as the first area with the Muslim community. Later, the relationship between Hindus and Muslims was maintained in the four consecutive periods: kingdom, colonization, post-independence, and the present. Among the local wisdom that has influenced the interdependence and integration between the two religious communities are megibung, ngejot, and religious activities such as the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW., Nyepi, odalan, takbiran, and Eid al-Fitr.

Abstract

The new era of Islam is characterized by the interdependence of the modern world that is inaccessible to the presence and primordiality of the full tradition. This opposition is as strong and stubborn as it is always accompanied by criticisms of two trends: excesses to modernity or tradition. The language as an interstitial is made very plastic and allows the thinker, the genius of his day to pour their ideas into their tendencies. Because Pakistan holds its belief, modernity also provides its firmness through language. One of them is in a series of critical religions and elements of vulgar erotic elements: Gatholoco. The contents of the contextual religious debate about time, this fiber, even for the present context, can still be a new direction. Back in touch with orientation and affirmation of the body - not abolished
