The majority of activity among nurses in primary health care in Indonesia is still high for non-productive activities. Non-productive activities are closely related to job dissatisfaction then has an impact on work performance. This study aims to analyze the job satisfaction of nurses in primary health care facilities in Indonesia. This study used a quantitative descriptive design. The research used a cross-sectional approach. The subjects of this study are nurses (N= 226 people) who served in 15 inpatients' primary health care. The sampling technique uses a proportionate simple random sampling technique. Nurse job satisfaction instruments assess context factors and content factors. Nurse job satisfaction on context factor is in a good category by a big responsibility for nurse's work (55.2%), progress in work developed well (63.4%), nurses had the opportunity to achieve achievement (54.5%), nurses get great recognition for performance (58.6%) and feel their work is valuable (65.5%). Job satisfaction was supported by policy indicators, supervision, salary, interpersonal relationships, and good working conditions. On the other hand, nurses' job satisfaction on the content factor still needs to be optimized. This is supported by the job satisfaction of nurses on the indicators of responsibility, achievement, performance recognition that has not reached 60%. Therefore, job satisfaction among nurses in inpatient primary health care was quite good enough but still requires optimization on the content factor.

Abstract

Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-related stigma continues to be a serious problem for people living with HIV (PLWH). This study aimed to explore stigma experience among PLWH in Bali, Indonesia. Methods: This research was a qualitative descriptive phenomenological study. With the help of a local clinician–researcher and the staff of the United Nations Program on AIDS Commission, Bali, 10 participants were recruited by purposive sampling and participated in semi-structured interviews via WhatsApp online audio from April to December 2021. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s process. Results: The following three themes emerged: (1) experiencing discrimination, (2) getting stronger through stigma experiences, and (3) receiving support. Interviews revealed that PLWH in Bali experience stigma and discrimination across settings, including communities, families, friends, employers, and health care. Some participants could turn the pressure of stigma into a source of strength, making them psychologically and mentally strong. This phenomenon mostly happened when the patients had positive attitudes toward illness and good coping mechanisms. Conclusions: This study showed the importance of support from family, friends, and organizations in surviving stigma. For PLWH, having a sense of self-support and resilience and adaptive mechanisms also help ease the negative effects of stigma and discrimination.

Abstract

Available evidence suggests that sexual harassment is widespread among Indonesian nurse aids working overseas, however little research has been done on the topic. This study investigated the effectiveness of sexual harassment prevention program for Indonesian foreign nursing aides working in long term care in Taiwan. Average work experience was 54.8 months and 93% of participants were female. We used mixed methods followed by a focus group. Quantitative data were analyzed using Wilcoxon signed rank test. Most participants had higher post-test scores, indicating a significant positive change in their awareness about sexual harassment (effect size r=0.84). More work experience correlated with less sexual harassment and greater job satisfaction. Content analysis was used to analyze qualitative data. Four themes emerged from the discussion: harassment may not be intentional, perpetrators are male patients, communicating in an effective and timely manner is important, and personal safety on the job is a concern. Although sexual harassment prevention programs are important for nurse aides, these programs should also include patients, their families, and staff members at long term care facilities. Further recommend the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office in Taiwan collaborate with private agencies to provide legal protection and training programs on these issues.

Abstract

Almost ten thousand people are affected by cardiac arrest, and the prevalence tends to increase every year in Indonesia. Nursing students need to have skills in performing basic life support (BLS) to increase the survival rate of patients with cardiac arrest inside or outside the hospital. An effective method for facilitating students in gaining such skills is educational simulation. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of the simulation method in improving students' skills in providing BLS. This is a quantitative quasi-experiment with a pre-posttest design. The sample is all fourth-year students in Nursing at Poltekkes Kemenkes Mataram who have had emergency classes in the previous semester. Data were collected using observation sheets and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to identify students' skills before and after they were given educational simulations. Before the educational video method was implemented, most respondents had insufficient skills in carrying out BLS, with 11 people (55%) falling into this category. Only two respondents (10%) demonstrated good skills in conducting BLS. After the simulation, all respondents acquired the skills to perform BLS in the "good" category, with 32 people (82%) exhibiting these skills. There were no respondents who had sufficient or poor BLS skills. Educational simulation significantly influenced students' skills in performing BLS (p=0.000). It can be concluded that the simulation method was effective in improving the students' skills in performing BLS. Educational simulation of BLS can be applied as an alternative method in the learning process.
