Abstract

Learning in the Draping course still faces challenges in understanding collar pattern-making practices due to the limitations of learning media that have not been able to present the process visually and systematically. This study aims to develop a tutorial video learning media for making collar patterns using the draping technique and to determine its validity and practicality as supporting learning media for Fashion Design students at Universitas Negeri Padang.  The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the 4D development model, which was limited to the develop stage. The media development process included needs analysis, design, video production, expert validation, and practicality testing involving lecturers and students. The results showed that the developed tutorial video obtained media validity of 95% and material validity of 93%, categorized as highly valid. The practicality test results obtained scores of 95% from the course lecturer, 88% from the small group trial, and 90% from the large group trial, categorized as highly practical. Therefore, the tutorial video learning media for making collar patterns using the draping technique is considered valid and practical for use as supporting media in Draping course learning.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of Filicium decipiens (kerai payung) leaves as a natural motif source for ecoprint on cotton-rayon fabric using steaming and various mordants. The experimental study used alum, ferrous sulfate, and slaked lime combinations. Data were collected through organoleptic testing with 15 panelists and analyzed using frequency percentages and the Friedman k-related test with SPSS 26. The results showed that mordant combinations affected color variation and motif clarity. The highest motif clarity was obtained from the ferrous sulfate–slaked lime combination, with 86.66% of panelists rating it as “clear,” followed by the alum–ferrous sulfate combination at 73.34%. The wash fastness analysis using the Friedman test showed a significance value of 0.00 < 0.05, indicating significant differences in ecoprint results among the mordant treatments. Overall, mordant variations strongly influence the color, motif clarity, and wash fastness of Filicium decipiens leaf ecoprints on cotton-rayon fabric.

Abstract

Eleventh-grade students in the Fashion Design Department at SMK Negeri 1 Dumai need instructional resources that can help them comprehend work procedures methodically and complete practical tasks more autonomously in order to receive practical instruction on the tie-dye technique. The purpose of this study was to develop a tie-dye technique jobsheet as a teaching resource and assess its validity and practicality. Based on the 4D model—Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate—the study used a Research and Development (R&D) strategy, with the research being restricted to the Develop stage. Thirty-three eleventh-grade students from SMK Negeri 1 Dumai's Fashion Design Department participated. Questionnaires, interviews, and observations were used to collect the data, which were then analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. According to the results, the jobsheet had an average media validity score of 92.2% and a material validity score of 90.4%, both of which were deemed highly feasible. Both the teacher's and the students' responses to the practicality assessment were rated as highly practical, with an average score of 94.3% and 90.2%, respectively. These results show that the developed tie-dye technique jobsheet satisfies the requirements of validity and practicality and can be used as effective teaching material for eleventh-grade students in the SMK Negeri 1 Dumai Fashion Design Department.

Abstract

Workshop Batik Mandau develops motifs inspired by regional potential, Malay culture, the life of the Sakai community, the environment, and the history of the petroleum industry in Mandau, Bengkalis Regency. However, the sources of motif development ideas and the meanings of the motifs have not yet been scientifically documented. This study aims to describe the sources of motif development ideas and the meanings of batik motifs at Workshop Batik Mandau in Bengkalis Regency. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method involving the workshop leader, artisans, staff, and a Malay cultural expert as informants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the sources of motif development ideas were derived from history and culture, flora and fauna, as well as events related to the petroleum industry and the development of Bengkalis Regency. Motif development was carried out through stylization and transformation. The motifs studied include Alat Rig, Pompa Angguk, Monumen 2.000.000.000 Barel Minyak, BERMASA dan Kuntum Bujang, Lancang Kuning Bergelombang, Lukah dan Ikan Lomek, and Rumah Adat Sakai. The meanings of the motifs are associated with identity, culture, the environment, history, and the lives of the local community
