Abstract

Avocado peels contain Flavonoid compounds and alkaloids as antibacterial. In this study, the ethanol extract of Avocado peels was formulated as a liquid soap using concentrations of FI (1%), FII (3%) and FIII (5%). This study aimed to formulate a liquid soap from a sample of Avocado peel extract against the antibacterial activity ofStaphylococcus aureususing the agar diffusion method in wells. Physical evaluation of liquid soap preparations includes several parameters, namely organoleptic tests including odour, shape and colour, pH test, foam stability test, viscosity test and homogeneity test. The results obtained from testing liquid soap using ethanol extract of Avocado peels with varying concentrations of 1%, 3% and 5% can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, namely 1% = 19.6, 3% = 21.6 and 5% = 25.8. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Avocado peels (Persea americana) can be formulated in the form of liquid soap and is effective against inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. In this study, FIII fulfilled the physical quality evaluation test and had activity as an antibacterial, with the resulting inhibition zone at a concentration of 5% = 26.6 mm, a powerful category.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is achronic metabolic disease that requires long-term treatment. Elderly people with multimorbidity often use multiple medications, known as polypharmacy, which can increase the risk of drug interactions. This study aims to analyze polypharmacy prescriptions and determine the relationship between drug interactions and blood glucose levels in geriatric patients with type2 diabetes. This study is non-experimental with a descriptive-analytical design through a retrospective cross-sectional approach. Sampling used random sampling in the form of medical records of171 geriatric patients with type 2 diabetes. Using univariate and bivariate analysis in the form of chi-square statistical tests with a significance level of<0.05. The results showed that the incidence of type 2 diabetes in geriatric women was higher than in men at119 (69.59%), with the largest distribution of geriatric patients in the 60-69 year age range (77.77%). Based on polypharmacy prescriptions, the most common type of polypharmacy encountered was minor polypharmacy (5-9 drugs)(95.3%), and 159 patients (92.98%) had the potential for interactions. Based on the mechanism pattern, pharmacodynamic interactions occurred in413 cases (74.95%), with the most common level of interaction severity being moderate, occurring in340 cases (61.7%). Chi-square test results showed a relationship between potential drug interactions and blood glucose levels, with p-value of 0.000<0.005.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Areca’s seed is an herbal beverage that are widely consumed as a betel nut. Areca’s seed contains arecoline. High doses of arecoline can damage many organ include spleen. There has been no further histopathological research of the effects with lower doses of betel nut on spleen. Methods: Ten rats Sprague Dawley strain white rats, aged 2-3 months, with 150-200 of grams were divided into 2 groups, namely the control group given aquades and the treatment group given areca nut dose of 50mg/kgBB for 28 days by feeding tube. Histopathologi’s indicators with hematoxilin eosin staining were analyzed by light microscope with 40X for diameter white pulp, 100X for congestion, and 400X for hematopoiesis extrmedullery and necrosis. The assessment for hematopoiesis extramedullery and necrosis used 5 high power-field, congestion used 3 high power field, and changes of diameter whites pulp used 10 high power-field. The data were analyzed by T-Independent statistical test. Results: Average congestion and hematopoiesis extramedullery of treatment group greater than control with p value <0,05. Average necrosis and changes of diameter white pulp of treatment group greater than control group, but there is no significant difference statistically (p value >0,05). Conclusion: Areca’ seed doses 50 mg/KgWB that given for 28 days showed congestion and extra medullary hematopoiesis on rat’s spleen tissue.
